Configuration :: Install The MSI File In Client System Along With Database File?
Mar 29, 2010
I have developed an Asp.Net application with backend sqlserver 2008 database. Now i want to install the MSI file in client system along with database file. In client system i want to install the sqlserver with out any sql editor. i.e The sqlserver shouldn't use for development purpose. The sqlserver must acts just like engine between application and database file. In sqlserver which edition i have to install in client system to do the above things ?

Given a file path on client machine, is it possible for me to get the content of the file from that
location and show that content in browser using any client scripting language.when i explored on this , i got following information.1.Client scripting languuages are not allowed to have access to client system as it is a hugesecurity threat.2. We can use ActiveXObject (FileSystemObject) to have access to client system, but it haslimitations like it only works in IE & client also need to change IE settings to make sure that thisactive x componet runs in his browser.Does any one have any alternative solutions with Jquery/Ajax or any client scripting language(that is cross browser compatible and works for all file types.)

The file system I'm publishing to is a not hosted by me, but by my university. IT here offers students their own web directory to host a website. My intention is to use it to host projects for classes and demo them for my professors. You can enter in a specific link in any browser to go to this website and view it as long as there is a file named 'index.html' in the directory with some presentable html code.
So here's the problem. I want my website to be written using ASP.NET and when I use VS2010 to publish my ASP.NET website to the 'File System,' I cannot simply open up my browser, type in the normal link, and have it display. It just shows up as a list of files in the directory and I can see all my source code for the web site

Which is the better alternative when allowing file uploads on a page (through a Gridview populated by a coded DataSet)? Store the image itself in the database or to store only the path name to the saved file in file system. If it matters, I do not expect to have more than a few dozen images stored in the database at any given time.

I need a place to store images. My first thought was to use the database, but many seems to recommend using the filesystem. This seems to fit my case, but how do I implement it?
The filenames need to be unique, how to do that. Should I use a guid?
How to retrieve the files, should I go directly to the database using the filename, make a aspx page and passing either filename or primary key as a querystring and then read the file.
What about client side caching, is that enabled when using a page like image.aspx?id=123 ?
How do I delete the files, when the associated record is deleted?

I need a basic system that uploads a file to the server and stores the details in a database, with the ability to add/ edit/ delete whats there.
Most of the solutions I've seen have been far to indepth. I'd like something very simple so I can pick it apart and modify it.

I want to access one image file residing in C: of the client's machine. I know with the help of file upload control (or say input type=file), this would be easy. Due to nature of my application (Its a KIOSK application), user is not expected to select file. I am just wondering how should I implement reading file without using file upload control. I want to store this file in Images folder of server. I am beginner to WCF. Should I look towards WCF?

I have added the following code to my web.config file:
<system.diagnostics>
<trace autoflush="false" indentsize="4" >
<listeners>
<add name="myListener"
type="System.Diagnostics.TextWriterTraceListener"
initializeData="d:debugging.txt" />
<remove name="Default"></remove>
</listeners>
</trace>
</system.diagnostics>
And I have written this line for sending trace output:
System.Diagnostics.Trace.Write(sID + " tracing id");
But, I can not see any "debugging.txt" file created on my d: drive and there is no trace output.

I am trying to deploy my C# based ASP.Net 3.5 webapp
The hosting service provider said "Access 2003 (.mdb) file has to be put in 'access_db' folder in root folder"
I am currently using
OleDbConnection myConn = new OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=" + Server.MapPath("~/access_db/filename.mdb"));
The folder structure is like
ParentFolder/access_db/filename.mdb
ParentFolder/ProjectFolder/<Project files> (App_Data, bin, *.aspx, web.config)
1) I am using a GridView on another page that doesn't allow to connect to a database outside the project folder. What should I do?
2) How do I modify the programmatic connection string ( shown above) ?

I creating a page where our clients can view advertising images and then able to download the images in different file formats. So I need the images and the different download types all saved into the same row in the database so that when I go to display them on the page when they select a picture the right download links will be there. So here where my problem comes in, I don't know how to code it so that I can insert mulitiple file paths into the database at once. The images are saved in a table called images. The downloads are saved in a table called Image Downloads.
Here is the code for the page I have it coded to submit the images to the database but not sure how to add the rest. I have got three different sql datasources for each table not sure if that's the way to go.

I've written a aspx.net(C#) page that after the user has done what they do on the page they hit a Submit button. The Submit button
1) takes the work the users was producing on the page and writes it to a file.
2) attempts to execute a batch file.
The call to the batch file is executed via:
protected void Execute123EDI()
{
try
{
string File = @"c:80sAdminSendV80s.bat";
lblCancelled.Text = lblCancelled.Text + File;
Process proc = new System.Diagnostics.Process();
proc.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false;
proc.StartInfo.LoadUserProfile = false;
proc.StartInfo.UserName = "administrator";
proc.StartInfo.RedirectStandardOutput = true;
System.Security.SecureString secPass = new System.Security.SecureString();
string paswd = "123abc";
for (int i = 0; i < paswd.Length; i++)
{
secPass.AppendChar(paswd[i]);
}
proc.StartInfo.Password = secPass;
proc.StartInfo.FileName = File;
proc.Start();
FileStream fs = new FileStream(@"c:80sAdminSendV80sOutput.log", FileMode.Append);
StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(fs);
sw.Write(proc.StandardOutput.ReadToEnd());
proc.WaitForExit();
sw.Close();
proc.Close();
}
catch(Exception ex)
{
lblDebug.Text = lblDebug.Text + ex.Message + "<br/>";
}
If I watch the processes tab in Task Manager on the web server I see "cmd.exe" under the context of 'administrator' but it just hangs. For test purposes c:SendV80s.bat: copy c: oot.ini c:zzz.txt
If I logon onto the webserver's console and execute SendV80s.bat it works and exits without issue. But when I execute the same batch file via the Submit button it gets stuck executing in Task Manager/Process. I believe this has something to do with the fact that cmd is not running in a full environment/desktop context. I just noticed this on the actual console of the webserver (not in my RDP console but console 0 instead)
A pop-up box stating: CMD.exe Application error The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application. And when I click on the OK button my ASPX page's WaitForExit is satisfied and the continues processing normally.

I'm using System.IO.File.Create to create a file. I'm not writting to it with a stream writer, just creating it.
I get a server error in the front end when the app trys to open the newly created file - that the file is in use. Garbage collection then seems to come along and a few minutes later all is OK.
Now I know if I was using Streamwriter I would have to close it. Does the same apply to creating?
I've read that opening a stream writer to the file then immediately closing it will fix this.

I am using System.Net.Mail in C#.net website. Basically, I use this to send email alerts to users when some action has occurred.
The problem is, when some PC's are used to trigger an email, nothing happens. I have 2 PC's in my office, and when I do the action on one of them, it works, but not on the other. Why is that?
Also, when an action is triggered by the login page (email reports), it works everywhere, but not on other pages.
I thought C# was server-side code? Shouldn't everything work or not work based on what the server has installed?
