Configuration :: To Find Out When A Website Was Last Updated
Apr 6, 2010
I would like to add code in a program that determines when a website was last updated. Ideally you would give the code a URL of a website and it would return a DateTime that the website was last updated. Is there a way to do this using.NET.

Is anyone able to see Web Site --> ASP.NET Configuration if you are creating a web application using File --> New Project --> Visual C# --> Web. If so, how and where?
Base on what I've tried, the menu Web Site --> ASP.Net Configuration appears only if you create a website by File --> New Website.
What I am actually trying to find is the Web Site Administration Tool (WSAT).

I am converting a web application from 3.5 platform (asp.net 2.0) to 4.0 platform through VS2010. the wizard prompt for converting the application to APS.NET 4.0 from 2.0 and I answered 'Yes'. The conversion ends, but the web.config file does not reflect the changes that are supposed to be automatically applied by the conversion wizard. There are no child applications within this web app.

I had made a change to the MasterPage and I would like to publish this to my production server at Server Intellect.
I wanted to know, that since I re-compiled the site, and saw the changes locally, do I now need to FTP all of the files?
Or can I just upload the file that I changed- the MasterPage?
Also, Im planning on making a change to a Class. Can I just upload that .cs file by itself?

I'm trying to create a User Registration page in ASP.NET and wondering what is the best way to get the list of up-to-date Countries and Cities? Are there any Web Services on the web that I can use to retrieve such information? If not, what are the options?

We have an ASP.NET web application and it's hosted using IIS 6.0, in the app we have these several javascript and css files located in a folder, and for performance sake (according to YSlow) we set the folder content expiration header to 1 year. Everything worked just fine until recently when we deployed the latest build to the server, in which we had made some changes to those javascript and css files. For some reason after the deployment some of our end users don't see the latest changes when they connected to the app, even after they cleared the cache in IE. We have also restarted the IIS on the server and the problem still remained. When I went into the IE Temporary Internet Files folder on one of these machines I saw the files were still the older version and not the latest one, I had to manually delete the files from the Temporary Internet Files folder then they were able to see the latest changes. I'm baffled by this, how come only some users who couldn't see the changes but some others do (without having to do anything by the way), and how do I make sure that for future releases we won't have to do anything like what did (manually deleting the cached files)? For now I disabled the Content Expiration option in IIS for these files but I would like to know if there is a way that I can enable the content expiration (to help performance) but at the same time making sure when the files are updated, the latest version will be used for the end user (instead of the cached version)?

I am trying to get the .NET Framework Configuration Tool installed on my server. I am running windows server 2008 with .NET 3.5 SP1 and Visual Studio 2008.
I have dowloaded and installed the lastest version of the Windows SDK but the .NET Framework Configuration Tool is still not installed.
I searched the drive on the server for the mscorcfg.msc file and it is not there but the mscorcfg.dll is there.
After the installation of Windows SDK the program manager now shows the Windows SDK v7.1 option with a group of programs under it, but none are the .NET Framework Configuration tool.
Does anyone know how I can get the .NET Framework Configuration tool installed?

I want to make a 2nd website and am using a copy of the site files from my 1st site built for me, I added them via FTP to the hosting company. I realise when I edit the new site via the CMS it is editing both sites plus when I try to change anything to the CSS file I get the following error -
C:inetpubvhosts*****mysite******httpdocsapp_themessiteStyleSheet.css
So my questions are what do I need to change to be able to deploy a new site with the files I have to make a new site?I also don't understand where the password is coming from, I can see the User ID comes from the database. in the Asp.net connection strings are the following:
site Data Source=sql7.hostinguk.net;Initial Catalog=***;User ID=***;Password=*** - Where is this password coming from?
membership Data Source=sql7.hostinguk.net;User ID=***;Password=***;persist security info=False;initial catalog=***;

I'm trying to run a website (site2) that I've placed inside a folder (dir-site2) of another website (site1). The default file of site2 displays fine in every browser on my local computer, as in when I type http://localhost:45912/www.site1.com/dir-site2/default.aspx. But when I upload everything to my host's server and type this
http://www.site1.com/dir-site2/default.aspx I get a server "can't access" error message. I can't display any file that is inside the subdirectory, dir-site2.

I have two web site sites on IIS 7 (Default, Custom). Both Sites host the same web application.
Some of the web application behavior changes depending under what web site it is running. Is there a way for the web application to find out what is the name of the WebSite under which it is handling the current request.

When I run the website locally using my VS, everything works.
I am calling a function inside a dll using P/Invoke. DLL is in C++ and it works.
When I deploy the website on IIS, I get the error message Unable to load DLL 'SolvingProbelm.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)
The dll resides inside the bin folder. App pool is Classic and .net 2.0

I want to find the ID's of all the controls in my website. I have written a seperate class and i am calling it from each page to get the ID's. That works fine.
At the application_start event i want to get the ID's of all the controls in each page of my website and save it to the DB.
Like this
page_name controls_in_the_page
-------------- --------------------------
default.aspx textbox1,dropdownlist1
default2.aspx checkbox1,textbox1,textbox2
I want to call the function only once in my application's life cycle. I want to call the function for each page, from the application_start event.. From the DB i take these controls for specifying access rights which is one of my modules.

i am trying to upgrade my WEB applications from .net 2.0.0.0 to 3.5.0.0. When i open my solutions in VS2008, it prompts me to update the framework to 3.5.0.0 .
But. Not all the dlls are getting updated. some dlls are getting updated to 3.5.0.0 but some remain in older version 2.0.0.0. Also, i could not find some dlls in 3.5.0.0 folder
For example the following dlls are there in 2.0.0.0 but not in 3.5.0.0
System.Configuration
System.Web
System.Xml

i have developped an application localy that can browse excel files, pictures etc... and display them, the thing is, that on my PC when a user upload a picture it will be saved under local disk C: and to browse it i will access C:idpicture and display it, that easly. the problem is when i deployed the application on iis 7.5 it's not working anymore giving me an error saying that the path is wrong or the name of the file is changed etc...
i have understood that i can't put it on local disk C: because the picture or the excel file must be shared on all the PC's, so i have created a map network drive (PUBLIC X:) which is availble on all PC's, that way i will browse in X:idpicture but that is not working aswell.
my question is: what is the proper path to use to access file on the server (PUBLIC X: or C:) using IIS?
