View 2 RepliesOur corporate intranet is designed so that each web application is a child application in the primary application.. Everything has worked fine with Visual Studio 2008 and even in 2010 running the website locally works great, the output directory for the child apps is ..in and the ProjectName.dll copies to that directory.. When I do a publish however it does not and I have to manually copy the dll from the bin folder in the project folder to the parent bin folder, this isn't hard of course but more of a pain in the butt each time I need to publish something. I made sure the output directory is correct for both debug and release yet on publish is just copies it to the child bin and not the parent bin as needed.
View 2 RepliesI'm having some trouble setting the ExecutionTimeout element in my applications web.config. My page is making a lengthy webservice call and times out after 110 seconds. (the default I believe). I set the value to 220, and make sure the compilation debug=false.
Does the compilation setting refer to when IIS/ASP.net compiles the ASPX pages when a client requests them, or does it refer to the visual studio compile process there the assemblies are created. Would using an assembly built using debug in visual studio still allow the above settings to work?
I have deploy my web site, it contains a project!
in MyWeb there are all the aspx page and some entites datamodel, in MyApp there are the class with function like "getter data from DB" and there is a entity data model.
afeter the deploy, I have only the web.config and the connection string for the entity datamodel....itīs run ok, read/write the data on the DB.
The problem is with MyApp.....after the deploy it is a dll file and I donīt have the app.config and the entity inside it donīt run, not read/write nothing on the DB.
There arenīt error or messager but not read/write the data in the MyApp project.
all run on the iis 7
now...the question is:
I lose the connection string (in app.config) after the deploy?
Can I put a entity in the MyWeb and read it in another project (myApp)?
ps: for connect to DB I use not the c# code:
var db=from x in AccessDB.Example select x;
I am developing web applicaiton. I want to read web.config in App.config file. I have appSettings and connectionStrings in web.config. How to read that?
View 10 RepliesWhile using a third party dll I was getting the following exception - "exePath must be specified when not running inside a stand alone exe" with following trace
System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.OpenExeConfigurationImpl(ConfigurationFileMap fileMap, Boolean isMachine, ConfigurationUserLevel userLevel, String exePath).
The reason I found was that it was looking for app.config and I had provided the details in web.config. My question is why does the system.configuration differentiate between web.config and app.config.
I upgrade my application from .NET 2.0 to .NET 4.0. Everything went smooth, with very few errors. Now the code is compiling fine, but run time environment is loading the configuration parameters from app.config instead of web.config;Here is my setup:Objects project: has app.configUI project: has web.config, When I run this site, it is fetching the configuration parameters from app.config. Any idea if I need to make any changes to read it from web.config instead of app.config? It used to work fine in my previous environment.
View 8 RepliesI successfully created a web setup project (MSI) for my asp.net web app in Visual Studio 2008.
However I can't seem to use it to update my asp.net web app.
Even though I run msiexec with the "update" argument, the files are not updated.
Is there anyway I can update the files? Perhaps using ClickOnce?
I built my ASP.NET website using vs2008 professional.
Now I have purchased vs2010 professional edition.
I do format my computer and then installed vs2010.
Now I want to deploy my website in vs2010, but it is giving configuration error in <add assemblies...
Configuration Error
Description: An error occurred during the processing of a configuration file required to service this request. Please review the specific error details below and modify your configuration file appropriately.
Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Core, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'
how to structure our intranet. The way it's going right now is, that I'll create a web application that usually contains just a single web page and then deploy it. I'm using the file system deployment to deploy to a test server.
The file structure on this test server is something like "\serverwebintranetwebapplicationsAPP_NAME". I would create a folder on the server with whatever name to replace "APP_NAME" and then deploy into that folder. Everything deploys fine and is structured fine, none of the pages will load.
When try to load the page you get an error like: Could not load type 'WebInterface._Default'. The dll containing that code is definitely there. Inside the "APP_NAME" folder is the bin folder, config file, and the (usually) single aspx page. So for some reason, the web page can't find the dll files.
We are having a project which is for various online application systems for an educational institute. (Asp.Net 2.0 Web Site)
initially we developed all applications in single project with proper folder structure. but now we want to make each application as separate product.
all applications share single authentication(Obviusly this is single project) want to keep that way only.
I want to split project in smaller projects but want to keep shared authentication so how should i orgnise this project in IDE.
Also i need guidence on hosting such project
i should make small projects within single solution file. and at the time of publish amke single virtual directory to host the root project(login.aspx etc) and in subdirectories i should host other projects. so this way SSO(single sign on) across applications is possible ..
Web.config is the main settings and configuration file for an ASP.NET web application. The file is an XML document that defines configuration information regarding the web application. The web.config file contains information that control module loading, security configuration, session state configuration, and application language and compilation settings. Web.config files can also contain application specific items such as database connection strings
Example 1:
<!-- This is an example Web.config file -->
[Code]....
In this article, we will see how to read the configuration settings in the web.config using 'JavaScript'.
Step 1: Create a new ASP.NET website. Add a button control to the Default.aspx.
Step 2: Right click the project > Add New Item > Web Configuration File
Add the following sample entry to the appSettings section in the web.config between the <configuration> tag as shown in the example 1:
<add key="var1" value="SomeValue"/>
Step 3: To read these entries using JavaScript, add the following script in the <head> tag of your Default.aspx page as shown below:
<head runat="server">
<title></title>
<script type="text/javascript">
function ReadConfigSettings()
{
var v1 = '<%=ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["var1"].ToString() %>'
alert(v1);
}
</script>
</head>
Step 4: Call this function on a button click and display the values of the configuration settings
<input type="button" value="Get" onclick="ReadConfigSettings();" />
That's it. Run the application and click the button. The value of the key in the appSettings will be displayed in the alert window. I hope you liked this short article.
I keep getting the all-too-familiar Report Viewer Configuration error, even after double-checking changes in web.config.It worked fine yesterday morning. Then by late afternoon, after I uploaded some site changes, it reverted to throwing the error.Report Viewer Configuration Error
The Report Viewer Web Control HTTP Handler has not been registered in the application's web.config file. Add <add verb="*" path="Reserved.ReportViewerWebControl.axd" type = "Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.HttpHandler, Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms, Version=10.0.0

View 3 RepliesI would like to make the build information for the running web application but I dont know where I set or configure this nor do I know how to retrieve this information.
In a project you may set the build information in the file AssemblyInfo.cs under the projects Properties folder. Here is a snippet of the AssemblyInfo.cs file:
[Code]....
But there is no such file for an web application project, so I have to get this information from one of the compiled DLLs that is in the same assembly as my web application then? Or how is this done?
The reason I want this information is because my customer would like to have a webpage within the web application where he could see the current version. This is also nice to have when testing and debugging etc.
I have a parent application and several child applications in .NET 3.5. The parent application is a CMS custom app that needs to be isoalted from the child apps. THe URLs that we use to access the apps are:
[URL]
The root application on http://myserver is the cms application that needs to be isolated entirely from the other applications. Is this possible in ASP.NET and how do I go about doing it? Right now when I run sub_app1, I get a DLL binding error for a DLL that is only used in the root application.
aspnet_regiis.exe -pdf "connectionStrings" c:web.config And this is the error I got. Error - "The configuration for physical path 'C:Web.Config' cannot be opened. And the permissions of that file is not read only.
View 2 RepliesI'm preparing to deploy a ASP.NET web application. The target server has already a previous version of my web application with parameters specified on the web.config file.
In the new version of this web application, the web.config file contains new sections I would like they appear into the target web.config file on the server.
However I can't find the way to merge the new web.config sections into the existing web.config file ?
Does I have to do it programmatically, or is there a tool to merge the both files during installation ? (I'm using Web Setup Project).
When I use VS2008 to create a new form application, I am able to go to the Data menu select "Show Data Sources" then the "Data Sources" window appears. Then I am able to "Add New Data Source" and so on. But when I create a new Web Application. I can not do that. Am I not able to create a Data Source on web applications?

View 2 RepliesI've been worked with web services so far, and I'm interested in expanding my services to console applications as well so I started digging up with WCF but I'm conserned that I won't be able to use the HttpContext collection that I've been used to do with web services one important thing which is to generate a random value from HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["ALL_HTTP"] that I need to reckon if it's the same or at least near what machine that is calling my service. How can I overcome this problem?
I need to know what machine is calling to count the number of attempts to login into my system for example. So must do it inside of the svc code otherwise if I let the client inform what ip address or what computer he is using, anyone could forge this argument and surpass by another machine. May be I'm approaching this matter wrongly. And I should count the number of attempts per state session, but how is it done?
I want to use two(or one if possible in my task) web.config file in my web site root , one in main root and another in a sub directory (such as : ~/Pages/) , and after that use two difference authentication tag in those , my main web.config is in Windows mode authentication , because my login page is there , and second is in forms mode because i dont want any user access pages in ~/Pages root except after login , how do i do that ? its possible to i dont any change in machine.config file and use location tag in first web.config and delete second? if its possible how ? or if not what do i do ?
View 7 RepliesI'm a total noob to anything ASP. I'm a web designer for my county's sheriff dept. and I don't create dynamic pages because out content doesn't require it. In fact, I'm still quite new to web design. The programmer who created the apps has zero experience with IIS7. These apps are designed to run on our organization's intranet server. I'm not having any luck with getting these sites to run properly. I have the sites created with the proper directories. When I click in the right-hand column of IIS Manager to browse to the sites, they launches but don't function as they should. They load up like static pages. I installed .Net 1.1 hoping that would make a difference but it had no effect.
View 4 RepliesI've been searching around on a way to use the new features of web deployment in VS2010, namely the transformations for config files, but everything I reference just says "right-click on web.config and add config transforms".Is it possible to do config transforms (and get all of the other publish goodness) in a 3.5 ASP.Net MVC project in VS2010? Is it just an msbuild file?
