Configuration :: Show Web Applications Build Version Information?
Jan 20, 2010
I would like to make the build information for the running web application but I dont know where I set or configure this nor do I know how to retrieve this information.
In a project you may set the build information in the file AssemblyInfo.cs under the projects Properties folder. Here is a snippet of the AssemblyInfo.cs file:
[Code]....
But there is no such file for an web application project, so I have to get this information from one of the compiled DLLs that is in the same assembly as my web application then? Or how is this done?
The reason I want this information is because my customer would like to have a webpage within the web application where he could see the current version. This is also nice to have when testing and debugging etc.
We have an application that is already deployed in the production environment. And currently it is using Dundas evaluation version. We tried updating it to the licensed version by simply pasting the dll file. but we got the error message as "The file has not been pre-compiled and cannot be requested".
I have an asp.net/C# app that uses subversion for source control.
My app automatically increases it's AssembleVersion and AssemblyFileVersion on each build which works like a charm, and displays the build number in the administration side of the site.
We keep track of AssembleVersion and AssemblyFileVersion's when we do deployment, however, when an issue arises and we need to roll back to a certain version, we have no idea which revision to target in subversion.
I have few ideas:
Save AssembleVersion as comment in each file Have a keyword in commit comments that get's replaced by AssembleVersion on each commit(still need to figure out how to do it)
Updated: option "1" is actually a stupid idea, cause this will mean that everytime i build, all files will be marked as updated and when i commit, every single file will be updated
We have two applications. One application in .asp and second application in java.we want to build interface for universal authentication, so that one can access the other application once signed into one application. Both applications are using SQL database, but one is written in .ASP hosted on Windows server while the other is in JAVA hosted on a Linux server. The applications are currently resided on two different servers.
requirements:
1)The end user are most likely to access the applications through .ASP first, then reach the 2nd application more like "back office" management system.
2)he JAVA application currently works well with IE web browser, but not very smooth with other browsers such as Firefox. Would like to make the application to be more compatible with other browsers.
I thought you might want to know this, the beta of IIS Express will be released soon, and will make use of the best of both worlds: VS build in web server and IIS in Windows itself. Anyways, IIS Express makes it even easier to build, run and test web applications.
Our corporate intranet is designed so that each web application is a child application in the primary application.. Everything has worked fine with Visual Studio 2008 and even in 2010 running the website locally works great, the output directory for the child apps is ..in and the ProjectName.dll copies to that directory.. When I do a publish however it does not and I have to manually copy the dll from the bin folder in the project folder to the parent bin folder, this isn't hard of course but more of a pain in the butt each time I need to publish something. I made sure the output directory is correct for both debug and release yet on publish is just copies it to the child bin and not the parent bin as needed.
I have a solution with more than one ASP.NET web-application. Every application has its own virtual directory on the same IIS. One application is calling aspx pages in the other applications. How can I share some information (e.g. user/password) between these applications. Is the only way using querystrings (in this case, I must encrypt the information).
I want to log the assembly version information into a log file each time my WCF web service is called. I know that in an application the My object has an Application object which has the Info structure, that contains the Version string that I can use. How can I get the version information for the WCF service to a log?
I had three web applications and each one has its own login page , now i want to build web portal which allow members to login and choose one of these applications to redirect to it .
Is there any way to passing user information across secure connection??
I am currently working on an ASP.NET 3.5 and C# web application which deals with users private information like SSN numbers. What are some of the security measures which I need to take from an application development stand point to feel safe?
I upgraded our Web App from VS2005 to VS2010 but is Framework 3.5 and Ajax 3.5.
I had some issues but managed to resolved most.
The last issue is it is not building.
I originally had a referrence to - System.Web.Extensions, Version=1.0.61025.0 which caused the app to crash but it built fine.
When I changed - System.Web.Extensions, Version=3.5.0.0, it refuses to build as it cannot find a custom control within the ajax control toolkit - tab panel.
It's the wierdiest thing, when I change back to 1.0.61025.0 it works but as soon as I go to 3.5.0.0 it can't find control "mnuCBO".
Also tried changing tagprefix in the webconfig but that also didn't help.
Maybe it a little thing or something silly that someone else has experienced.
I have included some parts of code from my master page.
My asp.net web application carries a version number which is incremented during every release. We're releasing every week internally for our test team and after four weeks or so to our client.
The question:
I want to include the version number on our application. What methods have you used so that your web app carries the version number? meta tag? simply added it to the footer?
Visual Studio 2008 I have web application in production where Web project is using Business project (.dll). Now i have made some changes in Business and need to move, say business.dll, to production. I am changing the version number of new business dll. While deploying it is giving error (System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly... ) and web project is not able recognige business.dll becuase version has changed now. I do not want to release web project as there are no changes there.
I have source-version of project and i need to deploy it on IIS. General project it properly deploy using VS2008, but issue is, if new revision is created then i need to point new source to deploy web-site. In this case i need to remove created virtual dir for previous version. Is this possible to toggle virtual directory between two sources. I think one solution is to change virtual directory path to new one.
how to structure our intranet. The way it's going right now is, that I'll create a web application that usually contains just a single web page and then deploy it. I'm using the file system deployment to deploy to a test server.
The file structure on this test server is something like "\serverwebintranetwebapplicationsAPP_NAME". I would create a folder on the server with whatever name to replace "APP_NAME" and then deploy into that folder. Everything deploys fine and is structured fine, none of the pages will load.
When try to load the page you get an error like: Could not load type 'WebInterface._Default'. The dll containing that code is definitely there. Inside the "APP_NAME" folder is the bin folder, config file, and the (usually) single aspx page. So for some reason, the web page can't find the dll files.
We are having a project which is for various online application systems for an educational institute. (Asp.Net 2.0 Web Site)
initially we developed all applications in single project with proper folder structure. but now we want to make each application as separate product.
all applications share single authentication(Obviusly this is single project) want to keep that way only.
I want to split project in smaller projects but want to keep shared authentication so how should i orgnise this project in IDE.
Also i need guidence on hosting such project
i should make small projects within single solution file. and at the time of publish amke single virtual directory to host the root project(login.aspx etc) and in subdirectories i should host other projects. so this way SSO(single sign on) across applications is possible ..
I have a document which may have many revisions. I need to create a view which should show the build documents and a dropdown which shows different revisions of the build document. For eg. I have a document Doc1 which have 4 revisions. So the view should show the Doc1 and a dropdown which have options 1 to 4. The will contain a table of document name and the dropdowns. How can I create the dropdown dynamically?
I'm using ajax tool kit version 1.0.61214.0. My application is working fine in locally. But when i publish it to server, some pages show script error like
I have to create a webpage that shows gallery of images in a folder. The folder contains different images and also versions of them (like a basic image of xxx1_v1 and then a modification of it as xxx1_v2 and so on...Also, there are xxx2, xxx3 ....). While displaying these images on the gallery, each thumbnail should show the higher version of the image. For example, if there are xxx1_v1, xxx1_v2 then xxx1_v2 must be on the gallery page. Further, when we click on the higher/later version of an image, it must be redirected to another page which shows the other versions of that image. Should i use AJAX / Jquery .
I have a repeater that is used to show information from a set of records. I also need to show a set of related data from another table in another repeater nested within the first repeater. I have been playing around with this but I can not figure out how to handle creating the SQLSource. I tried to pass values from the first repeater into the select command but I get a Parser Error that says that the tag is not well formed.
Code: SelectCommand="SELECT [PLANTID], [SIZE], [PRICE] FROM [PRICE] WHERE ([PLANTID] = <%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "ID")%>)"> Can this be done? is there a better way to go about this?
I have developed a small website which is working on SQL server.. And also found Deployment process which is working well in my system. But my actual need is when I am deploying a project there should be some time limit to work that particular application like a trial version to give demonstration to others.
