Creating DOM Elements On The Fly - Check If The Data Is Not Harmful

Apr 27, 2010

I already posted a question closely related to the this one. I watched the Mix10 video with P. Haacked and S. Hanselman. I am building an AJAX-powered site whose input forms are created on the fly. All the code to accomplish this is done within a script tag or a javascript file. For example the following DOM elements are created when the page loads and are wrapped into an existing div defined in a view:

$('#myform').append(');
$('#myform').append('');

When I click the submit button I need to get the values of the input form whose id is 'Name': $("#Name").val() and then I return a Json object: { Name: name }; For this kind of scenario there is no way to use Html.Encode() or AntiXss.HtmlEncode() on the client-side. The only way to check if the input is not harmful is done on the server-side (via a service layer). This seems a limitation. All is fine if and only if a view has a set of predefined inputs. When it is time to create them on the fly, the situation is different.

C# - Is Using Private Shared Objects/variables On Class Level Harmful

May 28, 2010

In page behind classes I am using a private and shared object and variables (list or just client or simplay int id) to temporary hold data coming from database or class library. This object is used temporarily to catch data and than to return, pass to some function or binding a control.1st: Can this approach harm any way ? I couldn't analyze it but a thought was using such shared variables may replace data in it when multiple users may be sending request at a time?

User Control Data Elements Not Updating?

Dec 8, 2010

I just recently started messing around with .NET (converted over from PHP) and I'm really enjoying it. I've created a test site for some friends at work and it works great. But I've been slowly converting the pieces of the site into user controls. I've moved some DataGrid elements to user controls for their specific purposes, and now I'm working on the main page (I'll attempt to copy the code below).

So pretty much this control displays:

1. An error panel

2. A podium panel (gold, silver, bronze) medals

3. A cake podium (the person who gets last place)

Before I moved this to a user control it worked perfectly. The Image files were updated from the SQL results. Believe me, I know it's not optimized so lets skip over that part. But when I view the dev site, the images are showing up as blank or broken. Nothing I do to change one of the ASP elements in the user control are being updated. I have a Response.Write sitting there just to ensure that the events are being caught and handled correctly.

Forms Data Controls :: Accessing Textbox Elements In GridView

Jul 12, 2010

I have a Gridview X in which there are 6 columns(5 template columns that are text boxes and 1 bound field). The user has the option of changing the value in the text boxes annd saving them. There is one more GridView Y that displays DB values(all 6 columns are bound fields). Initially X will show the values that being shown in Y, and when user changes the values in Y,he should be able to save it. If we are trying this using OnTextChanged event of asp:Textbox, there is a postback everytime the user makes a change in any of the textboxes. Instead i want it such a way that all the changed values should get concatenated together and should be sent to the DB.

Configuration :: Display Of Data-driven Elements Of A Website Corrupt?

Mar 26, 2010

I have a website using .Net framework 2 on a dedicated server who's display periodically corrupts - typically after heavy traffic numbers to the server. I can correct the problem simply by uploading a batch of user-controls to the server, or recycling the memory pool.

Has anyone else seen this type of effect before, where the display of data-driven elements of a website corrupt?

Corrupt image first.

Forms Data Controls :: Coding Elements In Datalist With Code Behind?

Sep 10, 2010

I've got a label in the item template tag of the datalist control. The label is bound to an integer column in the data source.

What I want to achieve is to retrieve the number from that label and change its text according to what number is retrieved.

i.e. if number retrieved = 1 then

lbl.text = "SomeText"

My problem is that I don't know how to code that label as it is found in the <ItemTemplate> of the datalist and intellisense cannot identify the label.

Is it possible for me to code that label using code behind? or is there any other way to do this?
