Creating A Website From Scratch With Forms Authentication?
Jan 19, 2010
VWD 2008 Express. Visual Basic.
I have posed this question recently in a different form, but the answers I got led me nowhere. This is what I want to do:
Have a web site that requires users to login.
Have the authentication process be done by ASP.NET (rather than Windows).
I have had many links to voluminous articles in MSN that simply did not work. Is there not a simple (wizard-like) way to start a web site from scratch and establish the objective of having users login to the site? I have tried creating a blank ASP.NET Web Site and using the Website>ASP.Net Configuration tool. But as soon as I go to the Security tab, rather than getting the wizard, I get the error:
There is a problem with your selected data store. This can be caused by an invalid server name or credentials, or by insufficient permission. It can also be caused by the role manager feature not being enabled. Click the button below to be redirected to a page where you can choose a new data store.
The following message may help in diagnosing the problem: The database filename can not contain the following 3 characters: [ (open square brace), ] (close square brace) and ' (single quote)
Does anyone know some SIMPLE steps to setup a new web site with ASP.NET authentication (forms authentication)?
I want to create a completely new control instead of extending an existing one. I have found a few articles on the net, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. I've created Custom User controls in Win Forms before and thought it would be somewhat the same in ASP.NET, but it does not seem so. Many articles talk about a Web Control Library template which doesn't seem to be available when creating a New Project, but is available when adding a New item to an existing ASP.NET forms project in VS2008.
I have extended control by using the ASP.NET Server Control template. But all you get with is a .cs file. How do design a brand new control with that? What I want is to create a control from scratch, with postback functionality, and that compiles to a DLL. Am I going about this all wrong? Should I rather be looking at the ASP.NET Server Control Project Template? If so, How do I create a brand new control with the ASP.NET Server Control?I'm working with VS2008 SP1, .net 3.5, and C#.
i like to create a Menu Control From Scratch like this Menu:
http://www.microsoft.com/web/WebsiteSpark/Default.aspx, with regards to Javascript, you can skip it, i can manage.but on how to form it from Tables? round Corners using rounded Left and right images.
I've done a lot of research regarding sending and receiving SMS, but all of the examples are for Windows Form. I need it to be for Web Apps. I know that i would need to use AT Commands to send and receive SMS. But I don't get how is it being used.
How I will use caching in my asp.net form while creating website using asp.net,c#. I also want to know that when I should use caching in my .aspx pages.
im trying to set up a website with forms authentication. so i created a new asp.net project in vs2010 and ran the asp.net configuration after that i tried creating a new asp.net database and used the following code to disable the user instance database and use the new database i created.
Previously, I have implemented two separate ASP.NET Web Applications, one as a virtual application in a subfolder of the other, which successfully shared forms authentication as described at [URL]
(basically, setting up identical <forms> sections in the Web.config, and keys in the <machineKey> section)
Now, I am trying to do something similar to get BlogEngine.NET (which is a Web Site, not a Web Application) to work sharing forms authentication with a Web Application of mine. I have tried both putting it as a virtual application in a subfolder, and setting it up as a separate IIS site (same domain name, different port number), but I can't get the authentication to work at all: when I go to the blog while logged in to my Web Application, Page.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated is always still "false".
I'm really not sure how to even start debugging this, since the forms authentication is handled before any of my code runs.
Until now, I've always used straightforward Forms Authentication on my community websites, and that one method of authentication, with that one cookie/ticket has been used throughout the website (with varying roles per user also stored in the ticket). I haven't used the built in LogIn controls and instead have always just created my own login/registration form, and written the code to insert into (and authenticate against in the log-in scenario) my bespoke 'Users' table. So I've essentially just been utilizing the .IsAuthenticated() method (to determine if a user is logged in), referenced the UserData property in the ticket (to determine which roles the user belongs to), and set up the 'location' restrictions in the Web.config, so the log-in page is automatically shown for pages that require 'member access' etc.
With my new project, I will need user registration/login for the Forums/Community part of the website only. I then need an additional user registration/login for the Recruitment part of the website (not related in any way to the users that sign up/log in to the Forums/Community part of the site).I was wondering if this possible, and if so, how to go about it?e user registration/sign-in pages might look the same, but my underlying code would would create accounts/authenticate against different DB tables.
I have a website, and if there is an anonymous user (not logged in) then I want my navigation (a section of the master page) to show an element of the menu called "Login". But if there is an authenticated user then I want the navigation to NOT show this "Login" option, but to display a menu item/link to a resource that is only available to logged on users.I know how to set restrictions on files and webpages, but how do I implement this with the navigation menu?
i want to access yahoo user name and basic info by loging from my website.how it would b possible,i have created app in Yahoo,i have key and consumer secret value.
I am currently using VS 2008 Pro for an ASP.Net class. I got VS from school as part of MSDNAA program. It is version 9.0.21022.8 with .NET framework 3.5 SP1.
My problem is that when I start it up, it does not give me the option to Create or Open a Website. It only gives me the option to Create or Open a Project. So, when I start my homework or in-class assignments, I have to press Shift+Alt+N to Create a Website.
Where the problem comes in is after I start working on the website, I hit Save and it changes it to a Solution. This seemed to have caused a problem with BIND commands being lost in my last homework assignment. Is there something wrong with my install or a setting I can change? I'd rather not reinstall it unless I have to since it is such a pain to uninstall it in the first place.
Ive created a web site using VS2008 ASP.net and connected to a Firebird Database.
I have a page that has a GridView(added at design time) and have connected to a table at runtime.
[Code]....
All good as the table contents are displayed at 10 rows per page. Ive set the Property AllowSorting to True. Has anyone got examples on how to code the sorting? Ive had a look round the net but all the examples Ive tried dont work.
I am working on creating an iphone application which logins to we website and retrieves a table, and displays the content within the app. To view the table a Login is required. It seems the site is using Form-Baseds Authentication. WebSite's Login Screen So How do I pass the login ID and pass from xcode to the to the site and retain the information so the user only needs to login once.
I have to build a web application from scratch(a 4-layer architecture). give me a checklist that are required such as tools, how to create the projects and their references, writing base page classes, how to set up and configure the application in Visual studio(asp.net 2.0 or above versions) ,IIS, database server, source safe and cruise control tools as well as the structure of the project.
I'm looking to build a Google like calendar from scratch. I need it to be flexible, so if someone has an appointment scheduled and is running 15 minutes let, I need to be able to click a button and move that appointment and all the other appointments underneath it down by 15 minutes.
I am planning to build an ASP.NET survey platform, that would also provide a scripting interface. I was wondering if there is an existing framework or open source platform to give a jump start.
I'm in the process of setting up a project's development environment from scratch. My company has used various technologies, but this is the first time we're able to focus on the development environment for a .NET project from the ground up -- and I'm the lucky guy who gets to make it work.
I'm actually very excited to do this, as it has the potential to become a pattern for repeated success across multiple projects.
I'd like your help to assess the build process that I'm using and shout out where I may find myself running into issues.
So, here goes--
Server Side:Windows Server 2008 SQL Server 2008 (relatively small / low traffic DB, wasn't worth devoting a separate VM in dev) VisualSVN for hosting source code (just easier to manage on Windows), Trac hooked into VisualSVN for wiki/bugs/tracking NAnt for automatic builds / running unit tests FxCop (potentially) as another set of tests from CruiseControl to check framework best practices CruiseControl.NET for continuous integration, to automatically call the NAnt build and run NUnit / FxCop tests when new source is committed. Dev Machines / Tools:VS 2010 NUnit CSLA (potentially) to use in developing our business logic layer NHibernate or Entity Framework (potentially) help facilitate OR/M
i want the link where all the asp.net tutorial's link... such that for data access tutorials, security tutorials, page model tutorials etc.. i want to start asp.net from the scratch like from the tutorials for basic controls and their working...
The question might sound weird, but I am planning to create a asp.net website, which when fully done, will ideally cater to all countries.I am currently in the architecture phase.. and is there anything that I should keep in might when doing this?
like, saving all datetime fields in utc
using user's timezone to display all time related data
My new assignment at work is to create a second version of our existing web application. Currently, our application supports only full time brokers, but now we our launching a second site specifically for part time brokers.
The new site will be almost identical to our existing site with the following exceptions:
It will have it's own branding. A couple of the user controls used for displaying information will be different (but none of the pages will be different). Our existing users should not have access to the new site and vice versa. It needs to be easy to test both versions of the website from within Visual Studio easily. We want to reuse as much our existing code as possible. I have 2 weeks to do this. I'm hoping that this is a common scenario and someone out there has some advice for how to accomplish this.
i am trying to work up with captcha in my sign up page.Having a google search,i found a .dll which i implemented in my project and it worked fine. Now i want to know that is it a good idea to download the dll files and use it in the project instead of writing the whole code from the scratch? What are the disadvantages of using a dll instead of writing up the entire code form the scratch?
I want to make an image carousel similar to this one from scratch.
http://www.artisticmilliners.com/index-3.html
Such that the image in middle becomes enlarged and the images on left and right become blurred...with buttons on both ends to operate.
I have searched and found many scripts but with only simple and plain with just images being scrolled like a slideshow, for example the radrotator control in aspnet.
