I'm trying to implement a code that will generate a fix lenth alphanumeric code; number from 0...9 and capital letters A...Z. I want the code to be formated as this: XXX-XXX (where X representes a random character between 0...9 and A...Z). It doesn't matter if the letters and/or the numbers repete. But it will be great if the don't. I'm using VB.Net. How can I do this?
View 4 RepliesI am wanting to have a numbers/currency only textbox control. So basically it should accept this kind of input
$123
523,100
$12.50
85.59
and convert this to
123
523100
12.50
85.59
and should not accept this input
F12
309$2342
,102
I have looked at validator controls but I would like to this conversion/checking completely from the client side. What would be the best way of doing this? I also would like a clientside error(message box or something) popped up if they try to enter invalid data and prevent them from leaving the bad data in the textbox. and then when they get out of focus of the textbox it automatically converts the data into a flat number from the client side.
I have an easy problem for the experts here...been a few years since my last development work. I have an appl that will track complaints. When an administrator logs in, they go to the main admin.page. From there, they can create a new complaint record-here is where i'm stuck and am looking for a better way. When the admin loads the create.aspx page. i need a way go generate a unique number that i can insert into the db. What is the best way to generate the number...i don't care whether it's numerical or combo, just unique and durning postback the number does not change...the number will be given out as a reference back to the complaint... This seems pretty standard but I can't think of a way that will not duplicate numbers and am looking for best practice with low

How to create 4 digit Sequential Number (0001 to 9999).
I have a web page, where students save their information. When the students submit the page, I want to add the string "Stu" followed by the 4 digit sequence number. The sequence number should be unique. The sequence number should increment to the next sequence, when a new record is getting added.
How to achieve this?
I'm pretty new at ASP .NET but not to ASP. I've got a form I need to create where I don't know how many entries will be added. It has the following format:
"Age" "Duration" "Period of Duration" "etc..."
Last30Days
1-5 Months ago
6-11 Months ago
Age
Age
Age
etc.
So the Age column always has the first 3 options and then an unknown number of Age values that can be inserted. I've created a table that has the first four fields (Last30days, 1-5months, 6-11months, age) and I was thinking I could just order by those 4 columns for display. The problem I have is I'm not sure on how to proceed. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to handle this situation? Ideally data entry people could use the same form for both entering and displaying the data.
My ChangePassword method returns a boolean value indicating whether the change of password has been successful or not. When the user enters a new password, I want to check if the password length is at least 8 and there is at least one non-alphanumeric character(both these parameters specified in the web.config file). If I want to check in my code if the password entered is at least 8 characters, I would write some code like this:
if(newpassword.Length !=8)
{
//do something
}
Like the Length property, is there some property that can check if the password contains at least one non-alphanumeric character?
I have a sorting issue with DataView.
View 2 RepliesI specified to have a user creation wizard that accepts a password with NO alphanumeric characters:
<add name="AspNetSqlMembershipProvider" type="System.Web.Security.SqlMembershipProvider, System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a" connectionStringName="watermeConnectionString" enablePasswordRetrieval="false" enablePasswordReset="true"
requiresQuestionAndAnswer="false" applicationName="/" requiresUniqueEmail="false" passwordFormat="Hashed" maxInvalidPasswordAttempts="5" minRequiredPasswordLength="5" passwordAttemptWindow="10" passwordStrengthRegularExpression="(?=.{6,})[a-z]+[^a-z]+|[^a-z]+[a-z]+"
minRequiredNonalphanumericCharacters="0"/>
still, I do get the error that I have to provide at least one alphanumeric character.I do so and the error is still the same.why? is my regex wrong? I also took out the "confirm password" step. is that ok?

I am using Forms Authentication in a new ASP.NET 3.5 Application.I have created the Tables in my database and run the Web Site Administration Too.When I try to create a user I get a password error no matter what I throw at it and I am becoming sure of that this is a symptom of an a setup error and not a password problem.One of the things that I notice is that my aspnet_Applications is empty and I am not sure what is supposed to fill it.I have tried to delete all the aspnet tables and done the procedure again but with the same result.

View 2 RepliesI'm serving up PDFs from a SQL db and presenting them in the browser. I'm trying to figure out a way to embed a number in the PDF dynamically so that the recordID for that PDFs SQL record is available to me when the user submits the XML form data. The user hits the submit button on the form and the form submits its XML data to my submission page. If there is some way of changing the submission URL on the fly then I could do a query string to pass my self the recordID. I'm not generating the PDF in code, its being created by hand and then uploaded to my site.EditUser is given a link someServer.com/pdfLink.aspx?formID=5 they go there and that pages pulls a PDF from the DB and displays it. This pulls up acrobat in browser full size so my aspx page isn't in control of submitting the completed form, Acrobat is. The user fills out the form and hits the submit button in the form. This submit button was set up at form design time to point to another page someSite.com/pdfSubmit.aspx The submit button posts the XML data to that page and I can process it. I need the recordID in the query string for the someSite.com/pdfSubmit.aspx page. To do this I would need to modify the PDF to either add the recordID and query string to the submit button's submit URL, or embed it in the PDF else ware. The big question is how do I modify the PDF just before I display it via someServer.com/pdfLink.aspx?formID=5 to do either of these two options.

<asp:TextBox ID="Date1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("date1") %>'></asp:TextBox>
</EditItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
The error occurs at the line <asp:Calendar ID="Calendar1"...>
It errors because there are records with null value for date1 when the records are returned from the database.
Is there a way to specify in the .aspx file telling it to ignore null or display null/blank?
My environment is ASP.Net + IIS 7.0 + Windows Server 2008 + .Net 3.5. I am wondering whether the number of users online and number of active session are the same thing? The other question is, no matter whether they are the same, how to calculate them (i.e. for a given time, what is the number of users online, and related active number of sessions)?
