View 2 RepliesI created and populated a database inside Visual Studio 2008 instead of using Management Studio.I need to run the script to create the schema for users and roles.The database does not show up in ASP.NET SQL Server Setup Wizard or in Management StudioThe only databases that do show up are master, model, msdb, and tempdb
Is there anything I can do to fix this or would it be easier for me to just create a new database starting in Management Studio and then connect to it from within Visual Studio?
I been trying to attach a database in sql 2008 express created in VS 2008 Professional. I have been getting error message and codes which there is no support for once you click the link in the message whats up with that? to my most recent memory it had something to do with permissions... but I was logged in as adminstrator so that confuses me.

I'm dynamically creating a table on my page with rows and controls. It looks like a gridview but it's not (it should've been, but too late now, seriously). I have a first name, last name, date of birth, etc. I want each row to have a button to add rows underneath it. So I create an event handler each time I create a new row and assign it to the click event of a button contained in the row. But it's not getting called.
Is it correct that the event handler doesn't stay established because the buttons are dynically created and are lost when the page posts back?

Would something be missing, not working, or confusing if I do this? First, install SQL Server 2008 Standard, and SP1. Then, install Visual Studio 2010 Professional, unchecking SQL Server 2008 Express option. Or would I need to fix any configurations afterwards?

View 9 RepliesI have created a contact form using asp in visual web developer 2008. I have created a set of text boxes where the data is input. First name, surname, email and comment. They all have validation controls on them as required fields and the email also has validation to see if it is a valid email address. I then created a submit button but I don't know how I would be able to set it so when pressed and all the fields have passed the validation that it will send all the input information from the form to me via email. Does anyone know how it can be done as I would be very grateful.

View 2 RepliesI have an ASP.Net project created by a team member on another computer. The project references a virtual directory that exists on my computer but under a different localhost location.Currently, the following error occurs when I try to open the project:
The local IIS URL http://localhost/foo/default.aspx specified for Web project foobar has not been configured. In order to open this project the virtual directory needs to be configured. Would you like to create the virtual directory now?[Yes] [No]
So, there are two options: select yes: It creates the virtual directory that it thinks I need, which I don't want to do. I already have a virtual directory somewhere else.
select no: This isn't an option, as the project opens, but without all the bells and whistles I know and love.
Where is the virtual directory location (in my case http://localhost/foo/default.aspx) specified within the project? Can I change this manually, say in a configuration file within the project, either before or after I open it? A configuration change seems more ideal than manually opening IIS to override a virtual directory path.
EDIT (solution): Buried in the comments below is the following answer (Thanks @Thyamine)This can be configured in the foo.csproj file for the project. Look for the lines:

I have looked at all the posts I can find on this problem and tried everything I can think of, but still the problem persists. I am getting really sick of it.was working fine for the last year until an update to MS Office 2007 caused a lot of problems (automatic update). After checking posts here, I removed it completely. No change. I then tried all the things I could find on other posts, also no change. Today, I removed VS and the Web Authoring Component and re-installed. Still no go.
Does anyone have a fix for this problem. It seems that it has been around a long time, but is still giving problems. I even saw one suggestion to reformat the drive! You've got to be joking!
I'm creating a website and I'm testing resgistering and Log-in.
I followed a simple tutorial to create a Log-in in Visual Studio C# template which generated a SQL Server database.Locally the Log-in and registration page works perfectly. The problem is that when I upload my site to the hosting site the navigation works but the Log-in and Registration forms send an error when clicked "Register" or "Log-in". I contacted the site and they upload my database the way it should be because I was doing it wrong. I can see all my files including the data base.
They commented me that I had to do a connection string to the data base so the login and registration forms can work. I don't understand how to do that, I know the connection string has to be declared in the Web Config File, the thing is that I don't know how to write that code and link it to my data base in the hosting site, in fact I have sample code but I don't know just what do I need to put in it.
I am looking at developing using Visual Studio 2010/2008 and SQL Server 2008 on Windows 7. Should I be able to do this on Windows 7 Professional, or do you need Windows 7 Ultimate?

I have a requirement wherein to automate a process that when a new login is created in SQL Server 2005, I need to execute code to add the newly created username to another user table in my database. I am aware of the system tables that can be queried to pull out the list of logins that exist in SQL Server database and identify any newly created logins.
However, I am looking at an alternate solution that allows me to get notified when a new login is created. It would be more like a trigger. Since I am dealing with system tables, I don't want to user triggers on system objects. I have come across SQL Server Notification Service but I am not sure if it would be an appropriate feature to use for such a requirement. If anyone knows of a better solution or if SQL notificaition services can be used for this

View 1 RepliesThis issues has been driving me nuts. I am trying to follow the tutorial on [URL] I am trying to connect to a database in Microsoft SQL Server 2008. The way I do this is by right clicking on the "Data Connections" > Add Connection. Afterwards the Add Connection window comes up, I make sure my data source is "Microsoft SQL Server (SqlClient). And, I choose a server name; the only server I can choose is DomainSQLEXPRESS. The issue is when I go down to the "Select or enter a database name" drop down box, I do not see my database listed. I have also made sure in the SQL Server Management Studio that I have given my user all the privileges for the database. I know my explanation is kind of vague, but would anyone know the reason why I would not see my database?
