I am converting my datatable to LISt using LINQ how do I handle nulls coming from database
List<Port> portDetails = new List<Port>(); DataTable dt = ds.Tables[0]; portDetails = (from q in dt.AsEnumerable() select new Port { PortCode = q.Field<string>("Code"), ExtCode = q.Field<string>("Nb"), Name = q.Field<string>("Name")) }).ToList();
In the above query if Code is null I do not want property portcode to be set to the value it should only set if it is not null or not blank PortCode = q.Field<string>("Code"),
What should be syntax I was trying somethign like this which doesnt work Portcode = q.Field<bool>("Code") == null ? null : q.Field<bool>("Code")
I've got a detailsview control on a page. The table that it interacts with has a DateTime column in it. This column is nullable, and a lot of the records have null for that value. In the EditItemTemplate I've got a calendar control. When I try to put the DetailsView into edit mode, I get the following error message:
System.InvalidCastException was unhandled by user code Message=Specified cast is not valid. Source=App_Web_srpmlyjd StackTrace: at ASP.entries_aspx.__DataBinding__control44(Object sender, EventArgs e) in c:inetpubwwwrootMediaLibraryEntries.aspx:line 103 at System.Web.UI.Control.DataBind(Boolean raiseOnDataBinding) at System.Web.UI.Control.DataBindChildren()
I am convinced that the problem is the null values in the DateTime column of the table. I've done some web searches on this, and some have suggested placing some dummy values into that column, but that seems more like a kludge, rather than a solution. How do I keep nulls in the table, and yet not have that preceeding error come up when a user tries to edit the selected record?
I have a detailsView whose date values in a cell are currently being displayed in longDateFormat, i want to convert all date values in this DetailsView to short date.
For example, instead of 6/1/2010 12:00:00 AM, i want to display just 6/1/2010
For a Gridview, i can achieve that by the code blow
Protected Sub DetailsView4_DataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles DetailsView4.DataBound If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then For i As Integer = 0 To e.Row.Cells.Count - 1 Dim cellDate As Date If Date.TryParse(e.Row.Cells(i).Text, cellDate) Then e.Row.Cells(i).Text = String.Format("{0:d}", cellDate) End If Next End If End Sub
I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.
for eg i hav a datetime field called Completion date which temporarily has a null value and when i display the records using a gridview it displays a default date...how do i get rid of this default date.the completion Date gets entered at a later stage in the application following which the gridview should show this date....but initially it shouldn't show anything
I am using this stored procedure with pivot.If i dont have data i am getting null with this stored procedure.Can u tell me how to handle null.below query is pivot.
I have a class with properties for stuff like FileNumber, OpenedDate, ClosedDate etc.When I Initialise the class I set the datetime variables to Date.MinValue.Then when I populate my textboxes I check if the value of the date variables are Date.Minvalue and I set the textbox text to an empty string.
Code: If(File.OpenedDate = Date.MinValue, String.Empty, File.OpenedDate.ToString("yyyy/MM/dd")) However whe I try to save the data to my sql server db I get a datetime out of range error. What is the correct way to handle these null values in my date columns?
I have a GridView. I am trying to make an Array or ArrayList of type structure. The vales that I want to make the ArrayList or Array (I don't know which one is more appropriate) from are points with latitude and longitude and are of type float. I have:
Point[] Array = new Point[counter]; foreach (GridViewRow row in GridView1.Rows) {......
how to find the data in a particular cell of a datatable using a reference value of another cell of same row
i've got two columns in a datatable andi want to retrieve a value from one of the row (say from column 2), with reference to the data present on Column 1.
I have a dataset.table which has some null values. am trying to trasform this using xslt to display like excel. If the value is null, then that node is ommitted by the xml. i tried deafulting the null values from the database itself and thats not generic. Handling null values is troublesome. I tried couple of methods to default null values by looping and thats not optimal solution. I used LINQ to handle null values but couldnt comeup with a neat solution. what am looking for is a generic optimal solution to handle these values.
I am very new to ASP .NET and am getting above error when trying to insert a new record into a SQL database. I have turned on Option Explicit On so the default date of 01/01/1900 does not get assigned to this field automatically. Since most of the people in the database will not have a date of death, I need to have "blank" deathDate. When I run the stored procedure within SQL and choose pass null value, the Insert Procedure works fine. When I attach to Web Form, however, I get String was not recognized as a valid DateTime error. How can I set it so Null values are accepted into this date field.
I am reading a datareader, populating a datatable and then when finished populating I bind to a gridview. Right now, I am placing a literal in the cell of the rows based upon date differences....sort of a textual gant chart. What I want to be able to do is change the background color of the cell I am putting these literals in. I am including the code below where I am populating the cells with the text. Does anyone know how to make the background color change? I know that in a normal gridview on datarowbind I can change it but I don't know how to do this on a cell by cell basis within the code I have below.
I have a query that averages data in 15 minute increments that I display in a chart using Microsoft Chart Controls. Everything works fine except when there is no data for a 15 minute increment. How do I get the chart to show just the empty time slot?
I have a gridview which is bounded with a Datatable. I have a button column in the gridview and on its click I am updating other row data and color. Data is been retained and color of the cell.
But when I am clicking other rows button, that particular rows color is retained but remaining color is again reverted to default. How can I rectify this.
i am using a gridview in my web page,i used to bind the database records to the gridview..my columns are name,empid,company name,pl leave,sl leave,total leave taken here total leave taken is not a database fields,in the page i want to fill the records once loaded pl leave and sl leave is added and display in the total leave taken column..it working properly when all pl ans sl columns fill with numbers,if some pl and sl leave having blank values.it showing an error like input sting was not in correct format..this is my code
Since I am not using a DataSourceId at the markup I am having to create my own Sorting handler. I found a sample on MSDN but the variable 'dataTable' always returns null why?
My datatable consists of a column named "ID". The no. of values in this column varies.Sometimes this Datatable fetches 3 IDs in that ID column, sometimes 2. Now if for example, my datatable has three values as 1,2,3. What I want is to put these three values in a string and separate them by commas as folows:-
string test= "1,2,3";
If Datatable has 2 values, then string should be as follows:-
string test= "1,2";
I did try but in vain.
edit:-
DataTable dt=new DataTable; dt = obj.GetIDs(); for (int i = 0; i < dt.Rows.Count; i++) { string test= "What should be here????"; } edit 2 foreach(DataRow dr in dt.Rows) { string str = str + "," + Convert.ToString(dr("ID")); }
@Rajeev ::Tried this..it says dr is a variable but used as a method. What's wrong?
For coonverting Linq to DataTable I am using the following Extension Method(Taken from Stackoverflow)
L[code]....
The Extension Method creates XML file.But for null values no element is created in XML file.Say if Commission field is null then commission element is missing in Xml generation.
I want to insert element with empty string for null values (ref type) and (0.00) for decimals and (0) for integers. where do i need to make change?
If I have JSON like this and pass it to the engine I am using to create a PDF file, the word "null" appears on the PDF. This isn't really my example, but I googled "json replace null empty string" and this was a hit, which is a good representation of my data, also:
We use a rendering engine that creates a PDF from a fixed template and variable data in the form of a json string. But our customers don't want to read that the id is "null", they want to read that the id is blank. In my C# program, the json is just a string, so I can easily do something like this:
jsonString = jsonString.Replace("null,", ",");but the issue is I can't replace null-comma with a comma, because then it's invalid json.
how to I make the rendering engine *and* my customer both happy?
