Data Controls :: How To Compare Values Entered In Template Field Textbox

I have a detailsview data control connected to a datasource. i converted all the bound fields to item templates and they have all been converted to textboxes. i need to compare values entered in one textbox and output the value in the other. I have attached a snippet of the code below. but its not working.

I have this gridview made.But it gets populated with columns, column names and template fields dynamically. The template field tht I am using throught the field in each colum is a textbox. The user when loads this page sees a gridview with texboxes in all the columns. I need to be able to retrieve the data entered by the user in the textboxes on a button click.

I have a grid view with 2 text boxes as template field.....I have to do client side validation like data type checking and comparison of the textbox values.I tried many ways...Required field validater is not working .I guess may be because I am not posting back to server for individual row but single click updation at the end of editing.I am trying for 2 days now....I am not able to connect grid view templates with java script functions.

i have 2 template field columns time and total_time in a gridview.. time column has a label in the item template and a textbox in th edit item template..
similarly, total_time has a label in the item template and a textbox in the edit item templte..
what i need is, when the user enters a value in the time textbox,it must get updated in the total_time textbox.. and on edit,when the user changes the value of the time textbox ,dis value must be ADDED to the total_time textbox.. both should be displayed in the label also..

I have the requirement to display the total of values entered in the textboxes inside the gridview.

I want to compare a user-entered value on a Web form against an array of existing values from the database, and do so on blur. If match, then show error. Scenario is to stop user from needlessly filling out other fields if this record has already been entered.
how to trigger this? What parts are client-side, what parts are server-side? Can I do it without Javascript?

i am implementing a update query module.i am displaying all fields from a table for a term searched. well now i am implementing update option for the record which are displayed, i have like 70 columns in my table, and i want to know how to restrict some selected fields to be only read only while the form can be updated ?Like if user select to update a record then some selected field such as "Timestamp, UID etc some selected fields" remains READ ONLY !

I am trying to bind two values "start_time" and "end_time" to a text property of a label that is inside of a gridview template field. Below is the html. I must keep the values separate so that I can pass them into a function in code beheid in order to calulate the time difference. When I bind the code below I get "The server tag is not well formed." I have a webform developed in VB.NET and I am facing a strange problem. In the webform I have a GridView control which has two bound fields (Item # and Item name) coming from a master table and infront of these two fields I have placed a TEXTBOX control as TEMPLATE FIELD to take any value of particular item. But after filling all the textboxes when i clicked on submit button it loops thru the items and there i need to read the textbox value of that particular item in a variable but unfortunately the value is blank even the data is there. I have a gridview which the columns are created programmatically.
When a button is click i will clear all columns and add the columns that I want. Im adding a boundfield which is not a problem. When I add a template field, I must add also the item template which is my problem.
How can I add a item template in the template field I created which is binded in my datasource. Also what event handler should I use to do this.

Someone know how can I bind a label item template from the datasource. The label item template should be firstname + middlename + lastname.
If im not doing it programatically, it will be just concatenating eval(). But how can create item template and bind it programmatically?

Setting up the editItem template of a gridview. I have a template field with a dropdown list for editing. When the gridview goes into edit mode the dropdown list is displayed with all the right options but the current value of the field (pre-editing) is not the selected value of the dropdown list? How do I make that happen? I have a couple fields where the editItem template will use a dropdown list and I'm sure a user will not realize those values have changed and they will just edit what they intended to edit and save the changes, inadvertently also making changes to other fields.
