I have a doubt regarding displaying data in gridview. I have comma separated values in a particular field in my database. Will I be able to display the comma separated values from db table in a control in the Item template field of my gridview?

What I have below is currently working on my site to display information within an article. What I am wondering is that within a lot of stories I have more than one 'SchoolID' included. All of these IDs are in our database within the 'ArticleSchool' table and linked to an 'ArticleID.' The statement below is only displaying the first 'SchoolID' listed within an article. Is there a way I would be able to display every 'SchoolID' within an article to grab information from? Will it not work in a label if there are multiple values? The 'ArticleSchool' table has rows for every article and a new instance if more than one 'SchoolID' is attached.

When a button is click i will clear all columns and add the columns that I want. Im adding a boundfield which is not a problem. When I add a template field, I must add also the item template which is my problem.
How can I add a item template in the template field I created which is binded in my datasource. Also what event handler should I use to do this.

I have a webform developed in VB.NET and I am facing a strange problem. In the webform I have a GridView control which has two bound fields (Item # and Item name) coming from a master table and infront of these two fields I have placed a TEXTBOX control as TEMPLATE FIELD to take any value of particular item. But after filling all the textboxes when i clicked on submit button it loops thru the items and there i need to read the textbox value of that particular item in a variable but unfortunately the value is blank even the data is there. I have seen several Web Sites that use GridViews that have lookup fields with different Value and Text Fields (as in drop down lists) but I can't seem to figure it out how to display the Text Field in the Item Template when the Text Field is not in the datasource. .
Here's what I have. I have a Gridview whose datasource is a Linq to SQL Invoice table, e.g.

CustomerID
InvoiceNumber
THe Customer table is related to the Invoice Table thru the CustomerID. The relationship is defined in SQL Server and is displayed in the DBML.
I have created a template field for the CustomerID field in the Gridview. I would like to display the CustomerName when the Item Template is displayed and a DropDownList in the Edit Template. The DropDownList works great, but I cannot seem to figure out how to display the CustomerName in then Item Template.
I seem to remember seeing in some video that you can simply drag the CustomerName into the CustomerID Item Template Field. But I can't seem to find the customerName field. The DataSource includes the Customer Table because of the relationship, but no fields are displayed.
I suspect this is real simple, but I cannot seem to find an article or video that explains how to do this.
i have a gridview which consists of databounds and dropdownlist control. When I press the Add Grid Row Button, it will insert a row. Now my question is, if the user selected an item in dropdownList in the firstrow and the user click the AddGridRowBtn Again which will generate the 2nd row, how would i maintain the selectedItem in the dropdownlist after postback?

When I click the update button, I want to update only 2 columns. So I made rest of columns readonly=true.

I have a gridview and basically at page load I want it to display with an empty row. The first field in the gridview would be a template field containing a textbox. I wan't to be able to type in, for example, a product code ('abc'). This would be the parameter for the stored procedure and then the rest of the columns (40+ additional columns) in the gridview would populate with the rest of the data pertaining to that product code (i.e. price, unit of measure, etc.). In short the template field texbox is the control to bind the gridview.
After the row is populated I could click a button or link that would add that entire row to my gridview and then add another empty row where I could enter another product code... populate the row then add that row to the gridview. and so on...

I have a formview with various templates set up for a database that has 255 columns. I need the insertitemtemplate to pre-fill values based upon a specific selection by the user (just like the edit item template) but when the template is switched to insertitemtemplate every text box is cleared. The idea is that a new entry is usually made by making minor changes to an existing entry. With 255 fields I don't want to require the user to enter every field when only three or four need to change.

Setting up the editItem template of a gridview. I have a template field with a dropdown list for editing. When the gridview goes into edit mode the dropdown list is displayed with all the right options but the current value of the field (pre-editing) is not the selected value of the dropdown list? How do I make that happen? I have a couple fields where the editItem template will use a dropdown list and I'm sure a user will not realize those values have changed and they will just edit what they intended to edit and save the changes, inadvertently also making changes to other fields.
View 3 RepliesI've been searching in all the forums, and websites for the last 4 hours without finding a solution for a problem that in the beginning I tought it was an easy one!!!This is my problem, I have a gridview with the following colums: select (link), Room Type (for hotels), and TotalThe total field Is a template field it has in the custom binding property a function: find_total(Eval("Room")) this function makes some calculation and returns the calculated Total value, and shows in the gridview without problems,The thing I cant do is: when the user clicks on the select link I want to get the text of the template field and put in a label control.
I tried, almost all the events of the datagrid, to reference the content of my template field but sometimes I receive a null value (seems that Im looking for the value before the find_total function has been executed) or I get an error "the index is out of range".I dont know how to approach this, I tought It has to be much easier, but Im very confused right now, if anybody knows how to do this
In the detailsview, I set a edit item template (a bounded dropdownlist control). But in database there are some data not set to a value (null). After clicking edit button in detailsview control I get the error about the value problem (Because after populating the dropdownlist, there is no item as null in it. )How to set dropdownlist selected index when the data is "null"?
