DataSource Controls :: Excel File Being Locked - Way To Unlocked It
Jun 14, 2010
I have a page where users can upload an excel file and it is read into our system. I am using the Jet.OLEDB.4.0 provider to read the files. I access the file one time to read out the header names and then allow the user to select which field each column will be read into on import. For some reason after this read the file is locked and the next time I try to access it to do the data import I get the "File in use" message. Each time I open a connection it is closed so I am not sure why the file is being locked.

i have an asp.net application that connects to a database. I've set up the connection string with the correct server name and username/password. This use to work perfectly. Suddenly for some reason, when i navigate to the site i get a Login failed for user
admin. Account locked. I check the server and the account is not locked, but just to be sure i reset the password and change my conn string accordingly. This makes no difference and i still get the account locked error message.

this is me once again moving around data access. my problem now hide in the import process of an excel file that would be inserted into sql db.
the problem is the excel file may be updated or changed and i have to periodically import it and perform the process but I still cant check or compare between the two Data Source (excel, sql) as I violate the entity integrity (PK)
i found a kind of stupid approach that each time i want to import the file i will empty the table then re-insert the data, but at this step a new problem raise that other tables are !engaged! with it ... so i will violate the referential integrity (FK)
i looking for solution to compare between two sources for each tuple / row, ignore the existing one and insert the new

I need a way to read all the rows in one column from an Excel file that the user picks from a fileupload control. I tried saving the excel file on the webserver with the upload control and then opening it with a OleDbConnection but that fails when running it from the webserver and gives the error:
Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.OleDb.OleDbPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.
This works fine when just running it localhost, so i figured it might be a problem with security level at the webserver which i cant change. Instead i tried doing it with a streamreader direct from the fileupload control and because theres no need for saving the excel file on the server, but im not sure how to query the rows i need this way.

after i can copy my file to another folder i realised that if this webapplication is used by multiple users at once, then some users are going to get locked out because each one is trying to copy those files.
so how do i tell the user thats trying to use a file to wait untill the file is available.
StreamWriter WriterTotxt = new StreamWriter("date.txt", false);
DateTime LastAccess = File.GetLastWriteTime("path.dbf");
WriterTotxt.Write(LastAccess);
WriterTotxt.Flush();
WriterTotxt.Close();
string ReadTextFile = File.ReadAllText(txtFile);
DateTime test = Convert.ToDateTime(ReadTextFile);
if (File.GetLastWriteTime(LatestUpdatedTime).CompareTo(test) > 0)
{
File.Copy(Path.Combine(sourcefile, fName), Path.Combine(destinationfile, fName), true);
}

I have some pdf files that get attached to emails and are emailed out through a web application. Sometimes this causes the PDF files to get locked and I cannot delete them from the server (even after the email has gone out). I get the message "The process cannot access the file 'D:myfile.pdf' because it is being used by another process".

I'm uploading an excel file and viewing it in a grid. But if I need to upload the file again in a couple of minutes I get an error that the file is being used by another process, so I cannot upload the file again. The file is always the same name.

when I used a code of exporting gridview into excel this code worked for a new website which is without masterpage.
my code:
public override void VerifyRenderingInServerForm(Control control) { }
protected void BtnGenerateReport_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.Clear();
Response.Buffer = true;
Response.AddHeader("content-disposition",
"attachment;filename=GridViewExport.xls");
Response.Charset = "";
Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel";
StringWriter sw = new StringWriter();.....
Now the same code when I copy it in my project having masterpage . there is no compiler error but it is genereating excel file withno data in it but in fact there is data in the grid view at runtime.

I have a web page in my project that views a selected pdf file. The problem is the file stays locked with the process w3wp.exe which I assume is the adobe file reader or something. How I can release this process after viewing it? Or another way of viewing it without locking the file?
Here is how I am doing it:
Code:
Dim File1 As String = System.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("Report")
Dim R1 As String = Page.Request.QueryString("r")
If R1 <> "" Then
Dim path As String = File1 & R1
[Code]..

I need to remove the password protection from an uploaded excel file. I have been doing this directly with the Excel assemblies (ASP.NET/C#) and then I tried with the ooxmlcrypto, both worked, but the problem is that I can not deploy either of those solution because of the dependencies.
I mean, my sysadmin does not want us installing Excel on the server and, as I have been searching for some alternatives, I can not find one.
My question is: is there a way to put the necessary dlls in the server without installing Excel or the Office suite?
I found this: Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies redistributable package but still, it requires a Microsoft Office Product.

The following code is a short version of a process to export data from Sql Server to Excel. I am moving 300k of data to excel and am having to divide it up into 65500+ blocks. This is not a problem in classic asp but .net does not seem to like this method. When ExecuteNonQuery() executes the insert statement each time through the loop it really slows down this process. Otherwise in runs in seconds commenting out ExecuteNonQuery(). Also it looks like the excel file does not grow until the very end. I would think it would be inserting every time it did ExecuteNonQuery(). Do I have something wrong here or should I do a completely different method for this?
using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(sqlConnString)
