DataSource Controls :: Sql Server Account Locked Out Error?
Jan 27, 2010
i have an asp.net application that connects to a database. I've set up the connection string with the correct server name and username/password. This use to work perfectly. Suddenly for some reason, when i navigate to the site i get a Login failed for user
admin. Account locked. I check the server and the account is not locked, but just to be sure i reset the password and change my conn string accordingly. This makes no difference and i still get the account locked error message.

user phoned me and said he received an error when attempting to login stating that his account had been locked. I had to unlock the user account today manually through the user interface. Several hours later I had to do it again. Afterwards, when I looked at the aspnet_Membership table it showed NO failed login attempts. LastLockout date for that particular user was set to min date. FailedPasswardAttemptCount was zero. FailedPasswordAttemptWindowStart was min date. I then proceeded to fail logging with the users account name.

I have a page where users can upload an excel file and it is read into our system. I am using the Jet.OLEDB.4.0 provider to read the files. I access the file one time to read out the header names and then allow the user to select which field each column will be read into on import. For some reason after this read the file is locked and the next time I try to access it to do the data import I get the "File in use" message. Each time I open a connection it is closed so I am not sure why the file is being locked.

Not sure why it works if i connect to SQL 2005 on another server, but now that i have SQL Express on the same server as the pages, im getting the following error: I have attached my connection string within my web.config and also how its being called within the code behind. Now this page was written by another programmer some time back.. so not sure if the method he used to do this is the best or only way. But i have connected to other SQL database with other applications with alot less code.

I am unable to connect to my local instance of SQL Server 2008 Express using SQL Server Management Studio.I believe the problem is related to a change I made to the connection protocols. Before the error occurred, I had Shared Memory enabled and Named Pipes and TCP/IP disabled. I then enabled both Named Pipes and TCP/IP, and this is when I started experiencing the problem.
I have now set Named Pipes and TCP/IP back to disabled. When I try to connect to the server with SSMS (with either my SQL server sysadmin login or with windows authentication), I get the following error message:
"A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233)"
My first question here is: why is it returning a Named Pipes error? Why isn't it using Shared Memory? It seems like it is not listening on Shared Memory for some reason? When I set Named Pipes to enabled and try to connect, I get the same error message. My windows account is does not have administrator priviliges on my computer.

I have the folloing sql server error from my ASP.NET website.
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
This seems to be a network related issue. But on the same machine where IIS is running, I have another C# application running that is not experiencing this problem. This happens after the website has been running for a few weeks. Will this be because the database connections are opened but not closed properly?. I wrote a test web page where i just open connection but not close it and I got Time out error when connection pooling is maxed out. Is this memory issue? Memory that are allocated are not deallocated in timely fashion?..
Everything is working fine for a few weeks and after that I get the above network error.

Unable to read local eventlog (reason: The data area passed to a system call is too small). This error is recorded in the event log every minute in the production server, and because of this the SQL Server 2000 performance is very slow and the box is also working slow. This indirectly affects my application and productivity.

I have an application with a few dbml files to connect to several sql servers in order to import data from one to another using Linq to SQL.
There are 2 connection strings with integrated security and in one I provide user ID and password.
It all works great in the development workstation. I've then wrapped the dll project and deployed the asp.net application to a test server. Then, when I tried to run the application to import the data, I got a connection exception:
A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
I figured out after some debugging the problem is with the DataContext whose connection string is the one I provide user ID and password. Now, the funny part is that the same connection string works if I create a udl file and test it. And again the same connection string works with my development workstation.

In one of our sprocs, we have a validation and it returns an error as: RAISERROR('this is the error message', 18, 1) When I call it in the business logic layer, how do I obtain this error message and pass it through the web service?
[Code]....
As you can see, it supposes to return a Users type, but how would I capture that error message in sproc and pass it all the way to UI?
