DataSource Controls :: Operating System Error Code 3?

May 7, 2010

I'm doing a bulk insert to a sql server and when I do so, the SQL server connection string I have is logged in as admin, but when I press the "submit" button I'm getting this error. The file that I'm trying to open is in a folder with admin read/write access and as I said the SQL connection string is for the admin account. Anyone have any idea what causes this?

SQL Bulk Insert And Operating System Error 3

May 14, 2010

I have two servers. One is a web server and one is a sql server. What I'm trying to do is as follows: User uploads a document to a web site. File is stored on a web server in a directory, verified that it's a certain type of file, and saved. When the user presses a submit button, the page is uploaded and the Onclick event triggers a sql bulk insert (not on the same web server.) That's it in a nutshell. The basics of this page are done. The file can be saved but for whatever reason, I'm getting a Operating system error code 3(The system cannot find the path specified.) I've modified the machine.config on the web server to impersonate another user. I've made sure that the directory in question can be reached from both servers (and it can.) I can open/edit/delete the file from the directory from both sides, but evidently that's not the issue.

DotNet Get User Operating System (HTTP_USER_AGENT)?

Mar 14, 2010

I'm looking at building an exhaustive function that returns a friendly name for the Users Operating System.

I think I have most of the Windows stuff down, but I'm not sure about Linux, OSX, and others.

Does anyone know where I can find an exhaustive list of HTTP_USER_AGENT's

'Gets the users operating system
Public Shared Function GetUserOS() As String
Dim strAgent As String = HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables("HTTP_USER_AGENT")
'Windows OS's
If InStr(strAgent, "Windows NT 6.1") Then : Return "Windows 7"
ElseIf InStr(strAgent, "Windows NT 6.0") Then : Return "Windows Vista"
ElseIf InStr(strAgent, "Windows NT 5.2") Then : Return "Windows Server 2003"
ElseIf InStr(strAgent, "Windows NT 5.1") Then : Return "Windows XP"
ElseIf InStr(strAgent, "Windows NT 5.0") Then : Return "Windows 2000"
ElseIf InStr(strAgent, "Windows 98") Then : Return "Windows 98"
ElseIf InStr(strAgent, "Windows 95") Then : Return "Windows 95"
'Mac OS's
ElseIf InStr(strAgent, "Mac OS X") Then : Return "Mac OS X"
'Linux OS's
ElseIf InStr(strAgent, "Linux") Then : Return "Linux"
Else : Return "Unknown"
End If

End Function 'GetUserOS

I basically want to return better results for Mac OS and Linux OS's. It's better in my opinion to say OSX Snow Leopard or OSX Tiger rather than just Mac OS X.

DataSource Controls :: Receiving Error - System.NullReferenceException - Object Reference Not Set

Dec 25, 2010

I receive the following error in the code below: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. When I am logged into the page I do not receive the error. My Code:

Partial Class _Default
Inherits System.Web.UI.Page
Protected Sub SqlDataSource4_Selecting(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As SqlDataSourceCommandEventArgs) Handles SqlDataSource4.Selecting
Dim MemUser As MembershipUser
MemUser = Membership.GetUser()
UserID.Text = MemUser.ProviderUserKey.ToString()
e.Command.Parameters("@UserId").Value = MemUser.ProviderUserKey.ToString()
End Sub
End Class

I read the following online: You are trying to use a reference variable who's value is Nothing/null. When the value is Nothing/null for the reference variable, that means it is not actually holding a reference to an instance of any object that exists on the heap. You either never assigned something to the variable, never created an instance of the value assigned to the variable, or you set the variable equal to Nothing/null manually, or you called a function that set the variableto Nothing/null for you. The following is the Arthur's code example and his suggested fix which I am sure is right:

Private Sub TestString()
Dim a As String
If a.Length = 0 Then
Console.Write("Yes")
End If
End Sub

DataSource Controls :: Get The Error When Add Review In Code?

Feb 9, 2010

I am using the SQLDataReader to execute a Stored Procedure that accepts two parameters (BuildingTID and Department) to return the appropritae Value in my case The Director of the Department. My problem is I get the following error when I run the code that I added below for review. Let me also add that the user is selecting the values that I am using for the stored procedure from 2 DropDownLists. I am getting it when I try to assign the value that is in the Department DropDown
list to the first parameter.

Dim myParm As SqlParameter = getDirectorsCMD.Parameters.Add("@BuildingTID", SqlDbType.Int, 15).Value = (ddlDepartment.SelectedValue)

Also obviously there are more issues with my code than just the error because the datareader records property is false meaning I am not returning a row

DataSource Controls :: DBType Error Type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.Parameter' Does Not Have A Public Property Named 'DbType'

Feb 28, 2010

I had to format my hard disk and reinstall the Visual Studio 2005 Enterprise and SQL 2005 Standardprograms.

While my program worked perfectly before and still works ok on my second computer, I get the following error message on the formated computer:

Parser Error Message: Type 'System.Web.UI.WebControls.Parameter' does not have a public property named 'DbType'.

Source Error:

Line 82: <asp:Parameter Name="Olho" Type="String" />
Line 83: <asp:Parameter Name="image" Type="String" />

Line 85: <asp:Parameter DbType="Date" Name="termino" />
Line 86: <asp:Parameter Name="pageId" Type="Int32" />

In this case I use a datasource control for a datalist and the parameter list is being built ba the system.
The DBType is created for the smalldatetime feild

how do I add the property named 'DbType'.

DataSource Controls :: Connecting To SQL Server In Visual Studio 2008 Using Code - Error: 25 - Connection String Is Not Valid

Feb 2, 2010

Background: I use SQL server 2005 developer edition and visual studio 2008. Visual studio 2008 is running on a local machine with Vista business edition. SQL server is running on a remote server using Windows server 2003. Both computers are within the same domain.

Problem: First, I used the server explorer to connect to the SQL server. Everything works as desired. Then I write code to do the same thing. I keep getting the following error message:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)

However, I used the exactly identical connection string as the one used in the server explorer. So connection string should not be the problem. In addition, I tried the test code in MSDN, which tells whether my domainusername can flow the network. It turns out the user name is fine. I also went to the SQL server management studio and found the login for my computer is NVCWeihao while my computer login name is NVCweihao. I am wondering if this uppercase letter really affects the connection.
