I have an SQL database table like the following:
ID // Code // Shape
The ID is the integer identifier.
On one line the Code may be OX01 and shape Hexagon for example
Then the next line the code is still OX01 but the shape is Triangle.
What I want to do is be able to pull back data for every line that is equal to a unique Code column. in the above example OX01 Hexagon would be returned but not OX01 Triangle.
I've tried using SELECT DISTINCT but it brings back all records and doesn't filter them correctly.
I've considered having another column which could have Child/Parent data so that only the parent is returned but i'm sure there must be a better way of doing this.

I am working on a small project. I ran the query below to get the maximum userid and increase it by 1 to create a new userid. However, when I run the query, it does not display the values that I enter into the database using insert statement. For example, if I open the table called login, I can see there are three records. If Irun the select statement, it only return one record which is the one that I enter manually when I first created the table. If I run the same select statement and give it a user id that I created, it returns the correct result.

View 9 RepliesI have spent a couple of days on this one. I have an ASP.NET website that has Linkbuttons on
the Default.aspx page.. I added a WebService to the Website because later on the WebService will
subscribe to a Provider(Feed) of News, Sports and Weather and things like that. So when a Linkbutton
on the Default.aspx page is clicked it will connect to the link in the WebService which will load the News,
Sports or Weather onto the Default.aspx web page.
The problem is I can't get the LinkButton to execute the Link in the WebService. The link will call the page up
to where you see all of the Web References. But then if you want to execute one of those references you
have to click its link and the Invoke button that will follow. My questioh is how can the link on my Default.aspx
page execute the link in the WebService. Now I changed the LinkButton into an <a href> but I still can't execute
the link in the WebServices. I always use www.Microsoft.com as the link when testing and I wasn't sure about the return type
so I put "void" for an HTTPRequest, so below is the link from the Default.aspx web page and below that is he asmx file:

1. I have a GridView on my page and it uses sqldatasource with parameterized query. What I want to do is, on page load (where nothing has been selected so no parameter supplied), I want it to query everything (something like SELECT * FROM [this_table]) but since my SelectCommand is something like
SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [this_column] = @someParameters AND [that_column] = @someParameters.
Can I play around with default value to achieve something like that but how ? Now, when the page loads, it doesn't show anything (No Gridview).
2. On my page, I made something like (username, gender, address, and more) and one single search button. That means, no single control enable auto postback. What I am trying to accomplish is building dynamic query
(if username specifed -> SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [username] LIKE @username).
If both username and gender are specified (SELECT * FROM [this_table] WHERE [username] LIKE @username AND [gender] = @gender) and you know the rest. How can I do this using GridView and SqlDataSource ? To my knowledge, I can only specify one SELECT statement in a sqldatasource.

This query works perfectly on the query analyser.
But when configuring the Table adapter ,I try executing the query and i get 0 rows affected.
What could I be getting wrong in this case.
NB:Existing GalleryID has been supplied.
By right clicking on my database i created a query in server explorer. But where are this query stored can't find them back. I should aspect that their is a folder query's like there is a folder tables but this isn't the case.

The only valid way I seem to be able to reference the query variable "result" is if I use the attribute "SingleOrDefault" but unfortunately this forces my query to return just the one single set of data for every unique primary key UserId value from my query, where I require the unique data attached to each different UserId value to be returned, how can I achieve this using linq? which returns a record from the database. One of the fields in the record is a FK to another table. I need to read this value to be able to set a dropdown based on the ID but I can't work out how to access it. For a standard record I can just do the following txtTitle.Text = MediaQuery.FirstOrDefault().TITLE
However with the foreign key it doesn't work like that. I've tried drpGroup.SelectedIndex = MediaQuery.FirstOrDefault().DOWNLOAD_GROUPS.ID where DOWNLOAD_GROUPS is the FK field but it returns Object reference not set to an instance of an object. If you're simply wanting to read some values from a single db record in the entitiy framework and one is a foreign key how should I go about getting the value?

I got 3 "user role specific" Areas and 1 Public Area.Also, I have a "Shared" directory for controllers that's shared among the Areas.
On the Shared views, I have a "Return to [whereucomefrom]" link, that will depend on ..well, where you come from. If it was only the previous url I needed, I could just figure the referer and make that the url. But I also need the link text.
Say for instance "New Message" in Shared can be called from the "Customer" Area. If so, the return link would be "Return to my Orders", opposed to say "Return to Messages" for another area.So I want to pass on a return url and return url text from the link in an area view, so the shared view can display that link. I am not allowed to use Session and want to keep my URL's clean (sth like /Messages returnurl=customer/orders&linktext=Return to Orders" will not do).

I've got a masterpage wih a LoginStatus control on my masterpage, when I click this it brings up loginpage.aspx. I log in and then it automatically returns me to default.aspx, how can I chage this to EngineersHome.aspx? I've tried changing the webconfig file so it has

but this hasn't worked. When I logout using the LoginStatus it directs me to Default.aspx which is fine, I want this to stay as it is.
I have a dropdownlist that is not bound to a datasource, I have hard coded a few items in the list cause the list is always constant and will never grow and there are only 4 entries init. Anyway, after i load the page and make a selection from the dropdownlist and do a postback, the dropdown always returns to the default selection...which tells the users to make a selection.How do I get the dropdown to keep the selected value after the postback? I want to be able to display the selected value all through until another selection is made.

I have created a stored procedure that reset my tables' identity value. The store procedure works fine when I didrectly run it in my ms sql server 2008. It reset my table Identity value However, when I call it from my function reset, it returns -1, and does not reset my table identitity value. The function to restet my identity value is:
