Return Image From .aspx Link?
Feb 12, 2010
Is it possible to output an image (or any file type) to a download link when a user clicks on a link from another ASP.NET page?
I have the file name and byte[].
<a href="getfile.aspx?id=1">Get File</a>
...where getfile returns the file instead of going to the getfile.aspx page.

I have two files. The first file is called FinalImage.aspx and here is the code for that page:
<html>
<body>
<img src="newpage.aspx" />
</body>
</html>
newpage.aspx has the following code, based on Jason's sample in the comments below:
<%@ Page Language="C#" %>
<script runat="server" language="c#">
protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
Response.ContentType = "image/png";
byte[] data = System.IO.File.ReadAllBytes("http://mystatus.skype.com/smallclassic/eric-greenberg");
Response.OutputStream.Write(data, 0, data.Length);
Response.OutputStream.Flush();
Response.End();
}
</script>
If I call FinalImage.aspx I see a broken image.
If I call newpage.aspx directly, I get a "URI Formats are not supported error"
I think its close, though. this solution is needed to get around the fact that skype does not have an https option for its skype buttons which tell the status of the skype user. Creating this proxy page will allow this to work without causing a 'mixed' security alert in the browser.

Created a asp page using vbscript to calculate a value (works fine). I'd like to return the value as a clickable link, which would obviously redirect the user somewhere else.

Here is my requirement -
1. I need to load a user control on link click event of a link button during postback of aspx page.
2. On button click event of a save button on that aspx page, I need to read the selected values from that user control on further postback.
If I write the loadcontrol code in link_click event, the control is not recognized at all in the button_click event. When I shift it to page_init and execute only during not postback, the user control loads with default values.

In our project WCF service is acting as our BLL.
i had scenario where i had to fill list of object class without knowing its type see code:
Added contract
[OperationContract]
dynamic GetReferenceTableData(string tableName);
method in service:
public dynamic GetReferenceTableData(string tableName)
{
try
{
dynamic tableData = ReferenceTableDAL.GetReferenceTableData(tableName);
return tableData;
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
throw;
}
}
method at DAL(ReferenceTableDAL):
public static dynamic GetReferenceTableData(string tableName)
{
Database db = DatabaseFactory.CreateDatabase(Flags.ConnectionStringKey);
DbCommand dbCommand = db.GetStoredProcCommand("USP_GETTABLEDATA");
dynamic objDynamic = null;
if (tableName.ToLower() == "a")
{
objDynamic = new List<A>();
}
else if (tableName.ToLower() == "b")
{
objDynamic = new List<B>();
}
else if (tableName.ToLower() == "c")
{
objDynamic = new List<C>();
}
try
{
db.DiscoverParameters(dbCommand);
dbCommand.Parameters["IN_TABLENAME"].Value = tableName;
DataSet dsTableData = db.ExecuteDataSet(dbCommand);
if (tableName.ToLower() == "a")
{
foreach (DataRow dataRow in dsTableData.Tables[0].Rows)
{
objDynamic.Add((A)dataRow);
}
}
else if (tableName.ToLower() == "b")
{
foreach (DataRow dataRow in dsTableData.Tables[0].Rows)
{
objDynamic.Add((B)dataRow);
}
}
else if (tableName.ToLower() == "c")
{
foreach (DataRow dataRow in dsTableData.Tables[0].Rows)
{
objDynamic.Add((C)dataRow);
}
}
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
throw;
}
return objDynamic;
}
@ Aspx
try
{
using (DataServiceRef.DataServiceClient petService = new DataServiceRef.DataServiceClient())
{
dynamic tableData = petService.GetReferenceTableData(tableName);
//tableData is null ,exception
}
}
catch (Exception ex)
{
throw;
}
There is no exception at dal or service end when i debug list gets filled ok but when returns to aspx error at aspx(no exception gets caught at @ service) but exception at aspx i.e:
Message:The underlying connection was closed: The connection was closed unexpectedly.
Stack Trace: at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse()
at System.ServiceModel.Channels.HttpChannelFactory.HttpRequestChannel.HttpChannelRequest.WaitForReply(TimeSpan timeout)

I have spent a couple of days on this one. I have an ASP.NET website that has Linkbuttons on
the Default.aspx page.. I added a WebService to the Website because later on the WebService will
subscribe to a Provider(Feed) of News, Sports and Weather and things like that. So when a Linkbutton
on the Default.aspx page is clicked it will connect to the link in the WebService which will load the News,
Sports or Weather onto the Default.aspx web page.
The problem is I can't get the LinkButton to execute the Link in the WebService. The link will call the page up
to where you see all of the Web References. But then if you want to execute one of those references you
have to click its link and the Invoke button that will follow. My questioh is how can the link on my Default.aspx
page execute the link in the WebService. Now I changed the LinkButton into an <a href> but I still can't execute
the link in the WebServices. I always use www.Microsoft.com as the link when testing and I wasn't sure about the return type
so I put "void" for an HTTPRequest, so below is the link from the Default.aspx web page and below that is he asmx file:

I got 3 "user role specific" Areas and 1 Public Area.Also, I have a "Shared" directory for controllers that's shared among the Areas.
On the Shared views, I have a "Return to [whereucomefrom]" link, that will depend on ..well, where you come from. If it was only the previous url I needed, I could just figure the referer and make that the url. But I also need the link text.
Say for instance "New Message" in Shared can be called from the "Customer" Area. If so, the return link would be "Return to my Orders", opposed to say "Return to Messages" for another area.So I want to pass on a return url and return url text from the link in an area view, so the shared view can display that link. I am not allowed to use Session and want to keep my URL's clean (sth like /Messages returnurl=customer/orders&linktext=Return to Orders" will not do).
I'm working on a URL Helper extension method as we speak, but I know in advance that is going to create an ugly url....

I have a question. How can I link two different aspx. Webforms? I have one that is the Scheduler.aspx, and one that is NewEvent.aspx. And On the scheduler.aspx, I have the scheduler. And on the NewEvent.aspx. I have some textboxs, labels etc to insert a new time slot. But I need to be able to click on the free time slot on the scheduler and then have the NewEvent pop up in a window.
I've been able to do this if I put all of my code on one aspx file. And create a label and then click on the label to get the popup to appear.
But I can't figure out how to do it based off of a free slot on the scheduler.

I am creating a web application using ASP.NET MVC 2 using the C# language. I have programmed in HTML, CSS, and PHP for several years and i am very new to ASP.NET. The part that i am having trouble with is the image gallery.The setup: i have a link on the navigation bar that goes to a "Galleries" page. This page will show a list of galleries. Each gallery has a title, an image, and a description. All of this information is pulled from an XML file. I'm using the XML file like a database. I wanted to use this method so that i could easily update the list of galleries and have the updated XML file automatically be reflected by the website. Now, the galleries should link to an "Images" page. This page will display a list of images within the gallery based on what gallery was selected. This page will also pull from an XML file.The problem: I cannot seem to attach a dynamic link to the image? I am also stuck and not sure how i get the correct View to display? I know i need to do something with the controllers and models, right? I have some code if needed?

I am struggling to login into my web portal on my new sony vaio laptop. I think that I need to do some settings, or download some plugin. Infact I don't know what to do, as I have spent many hours trying to login, but no success. Below is my office website:[URL]When I enter my credentials and click login, the web page gets refreshed, i.e username and password get erased, rather than taking me into my web-portal. The laptop is having windows 7 home premium, with ie8. I have also tried installing firefox, chrome, opera and safari, but same problem.
as sony has refused to take the laptop back and they are saying that there is problem with website. Similarly, website staff are saying that there is a problem with the laptop and not with the website.

say of have a table of cars in my SQL database. That table has a column for the car make and a column called picture of type:
Picture(image, null)
I'm then displaying my cars in a repeater and so it might look like this:
<asp:Repeater id="carsRepeater" runat="server" DataSourceID="CarsDataSource>
<HeaderTemplate>
<table>
</HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
[Code]....
What I'm wanting is in column two to get the picture of the car to display and make it so you can click on that picture and it will run a method in the code behind. Also I have this requirement where the picture click method mustn't require javascript to run.
I'm currently thinking about putting the image somehow in a link but I'm not sure how to display the image. Maybe the asp:Image but that requires an ImageUrl.
