I have a FormView bound to an ObjectDataSource that is bound to a business logic object. The business logic object has a Readonly field called "Id". When I try to update the formview, I get the following error message: The 'Id' property on the type specified by the DataObjectTypeName property in ObjectDataSource 'ObjectDataSourceNewsArticle' is readonly and its value cannot be set. How do I get the ObjectDataSource or the FormView to recognise that the id field is readonly, and to not try to update it?

How do I get access to my custom strong-named properties of the common profile (page.profile) in ASP.NET for a classes that does not derive from page? I thought I could just pass in httpcontext.profile but I'm missing the custom properties.
There should be some class type that I can pass in? It appears the class type is ProfileCommon and is auto-generated.

I've written a class that contains Select- and Update-Methods for an ObjectDataSource. The UpdateMethod receives an instance of a called class. My problem is, that only properties that are Bound in the DetailsView are set, the others have their default value.Here's my code:Class declaration:
public class Foo
{
public string Prop1 {get;set:}
public int Prop2 {get;set;}

I am in need of some assistance in regards to how to best set the values of properties for a Web User Control which is being included into a cell of a GridView with dynamically created columns. I have tried a few different approaches, but can't seem to get a satisfactory result. Also, to be completely honest, I am not really sure if I am using best practices for what I am trying to accomplish.
First off a little background:I have a GridView for which we will never know the exact number of columns at run time. The columns are predicated by user selection. I am creating the command text for the DataSet on the fly and then looping through the columns of the resulting DataTable in order to use custom TemplateFields. This works ok for just printing out the row values but not so much for when I need to insert the Web User Control into a cell.The Web User Control is in essence a collection of image links which are used as a "Quick Nav" tool. I need to pass the values of 2 fields from each DataRow to the control via properties (for example, CustID and ProductID). I am using custom TemplateField classes inheriting from ITemplate for displaying my fields and extending the DataBinding event like so: [Code]....
This won't work for my User Control as DataBinding is called after the control is loaded into the page and I need the properties to be set before the Page_Load event of the control is fired.Is there a GridView event I should be looking into instead such as RowCreated or RowDataBound? Or should I modify how I loop through the DataTable by doing rows first, then the resulting columns as I've seen done elsewhere?

I am using LINQ to SQL files in my class libray since every LINQ to SQL sources file is a seprate file and i have to set database connection string in each class library. Now, i have total 7 class libraires in my project how connection string be passed from web.onfg to LINQ file, so that i don't need to manually change the connection string. lke we did in asp.net 2.0 using connection string property in class file library.
How could we pass the same in LINQ's designer file.

I have the following situation:My business class:
public class Foo
{
public String A {get;set;}
public DateTime B {get;set;}
// .. and other properties like
public String Intern {get;set;}
}
I'm binding that Item to a DetailsView in Editmode. (I bind a List containing a single object of Foo, becuase I do recall that I can only bind IEnumerable<> classes to the DetailView)The binding is done via a ObjectDataSource

I am using an ObjectDataSource control to call a MapInfo object. This object has two properties:
public IList Visits
public int TotalAvailable
The select method returns an IList but the TotalAvailable property is also populated. I have set the TypeName in the ObjectDataSource to the MapInfo object but because the Select method only returns the IList I don't have access to the TotalAvailable.
[code]....
Is there any way to access this value. I know it is being populated in the MapInfo object but all that gets returned from the Select method is the IList

I've created a query in the table adapter for retrieving customer name based on the first letter. The query is executed fine, and the output is the customer name and ID. A Customer BLL accesses this query, and sends the results to an objectdatasource. This control is configured to use this customer-by-letter query. However for some reason, this objectdatasource does not bind the name and ID, but instead all the other fields produced by the main query in the table adapter (i.e. name, address, phone, etc....).
I'm probably not configuring something correctly, but I'm not sure what.
The BLL code:

The .net code:

My Business Logic Layer has AddItem method that add's to Items table in db along with an entry in Balance table.AddItem method uses two TableAdapters Items & Balance. Both these have corresponding Business Objects as Item and Balance.
Here is the AddItem method :

ASPX Page with DetailsView & ObjectDataSource

Now executing this page generates error as
ObjectDataSource 'ObjectDataSource2' could not find a non-generic method 'AddItem' that has parameters: _item, _balance, ItemName, GroupId, CategoryId, AuId, Rate, TotalStrScale, OffsStrScale, OffsAE [code]...

I'm creating an ASP.net website with 3 layers (Presentation, BLL and DAL).
BLL and DAL are 'class library'. DAL has a typed dataset. Presentation refers BLL and BLL refers DAL.
I wanna populate my GridViews with ObjectDataSource, but it only shows me the DAL. Nothing from BLL...
What am I doing wrong?

Consider a fairly complex business object. For the sake of discussion, let's think about a "ClassRoom" object - that will have some attributes which occur once, such as "capacity" and "area". It will also have some repeating attributes - perhaps "desks" which will itself be a collection of desk objects. The desk object will in turn have attributes such as "width" and "height".My example is more complex, but that should show where I am coming from. The business object, as you would expect, exposes methods to get the attributes in and out. There is also logic included to perform the underlying database updates. Of course, the necessary business validation is also in there.
In terms of binding to the ASP page, I will need to bind the attributes of "ClassRoom" to a set of fields on the page (using one method on the object). I will also want to bind the desks collection to a Repeater or GridView (using another method on the object).Presumably, I need to find a way to use a single instance of the ObjectDataSource so that the updates to the two (or more) disparate sets of data can be kept in step. I suspect that if I simply put two data sources on the page, I will get two instances and therefore no correlation between them.This can't be a unique problem, but I'm struggling to find any useful information.

I was woundering if its possible for me to check for accesslevel value from the database using objectdatasouce.... From my coldfusion experience... i could just use an "if statement"
e.g: <cfif> (datasouce.column = x) then
<cfoutput> msg</cfoutput>
</cfif>
Am not so sure about .net.... All i am trying to do is to check for one value on the db and i dont mind puting it on code behind... i just need a way..

Is there any easy way to set properties of a Page (or UserControl for that matter) from *within itself*?As an example, I have several .aspx pages which inherit from exactly the same code-behind class, but I need to be able to pass different properties to the class to make them do the correct thing for the specific .aspx.
The only way I've found to do this is to create the following - which works fine, but doesn't feel right....
<script runat="server">
Private Sub Page_Init(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As
System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Init
Me.MyProperty = True
End Sub
</script>
It would be a much nicer, simplier and easier solution to be able to be able to set MyProperty = True somewhere... is this possible?The option of hard-coding properties within the class for the "parent" page is not going to work for my situation.

Some settings in asp.net like viewstate can be controlled at the site (web.config), page, or control levels. What is the order of precedence? What happens, for example, if I set viewstate of site and page levels but on at the control level?
Also, is viewstate for a control the same as control state? Furthermore, what events to use for loading and saving viewstate for controls (is this the same thing as control state?) and also for custom controls?
Similarly, which events should I use to render controls? Is this PreInit and Load? Is this the same for custom controls?
