DataSource Controls :: System.Data.DataRowView In List Box (instead Of Data)

Feb 17, 2011

On my .aspx code I have

<asp:ListBox ID="LBcategories" runat="server"
DataSourceID="SQLCategories">
</asp:ListBox>

When I was creating a datasource for the List box - it showed the correct data,but when I tested it on the Web - I see a listbox with 3 lines of value:"System.Data.DataRowView". After manually deleting a row from the database - I see only 2 lines. After deleting all rows from the table - the listbox is empty.

So why I don't see the table values, but the string "System.Data.DataRowView"?

C# - Databinding Gives "System.Data.DataRowView" Instead Of Actual Values?

Apr 15, 2010

This is my code:

string SQL = "SELECT email FROM members WHERE subscribe=true";
string myConnString = Application["ConnectionString"].ToString();
OleDbConnection myConnection = new OleDbConnection(myConnString);
OleDbCommand myCommand = new OleDbCommand(SQL, myConnection);
myConnection.Open();
OleDbDataAdapter MyAdapter = new OleDbDataAdapter(myCommand);
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
MyAdapter.Fill(ds);
MailsListBox.DataSource = ds;
MailsListBox.DataBind();
GridView1.DataSource = ds;
GridView1.DataBind();
myConnection.Close();

And so it looks:

As you see, the GridView shows the dataset just fine, and the ListBox fails it. What happened? How can I fix it?

DataSource Controls :: System.Data.Datatable Updating SQL Server Image Field

Jul 1, 2010

I have a datatable for which i'm defining a dataadapter. I'm specifying an updatecommand with sqlparameters for the dataadapter I set the updatecommand's parameters using the following overload:

[Code]....

The length 16 is used because this is the length of the field according to sql (the image datafield is a pointer of size 16) I noticed .Net is actually truncating the string because of the length i'm setting. An image of size 3kb will properly upload if we set the length field to be greater than 3kb The question I have is what is the proper value (or strategy) to use in order to set for the length field so that ALL images will properly update to the database, with each using the appropriate size.

I guess i could theoretically set the length to be maxint, but this seems sloppy. Looking at sqlparameter documentation i didnt see an 'unlimited' or 'default' length i could set, which would allow each update statement called to use the appropriate size for the data length for that row.

DataSource Controls :: The Type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' Is Defined In An Assembly That Is Not Referenced?

May 28, 2010

I have a strange problem. I am adding a LinqDatasource object, and set the context:

Then I get this error:The type 'System.Data.Linq.DataContext' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'.

On web.config I already have this:

<add assembly="System.Data.Linq, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089"/>

NOTE: The datacontext is in a different project (DLL proect) where I added a refernce to System.Data.Linq.

is there another way adding a refernce to a web project? or only though teh web.config?
