DataSource Controls :: Post The Code To Get Data From Sql Into A List?
Nov 29, 2010
I have this code but dunno how to get the data from the existing sqldatasource1 into the list.
ie the code for this line: ' Get Data from Database and Fill DataReader and we will pass values to List
The sqldatasource1 returns only one field of data called holiday which is a date field.
<%@ Page Title="" Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/00_MasterPage.master" %>
<script runat="server">
Private Function GetPublicHolidays() As List(Of DateTime)
Dim list As New List(Of DateTime)()
' Get Data from Database and Fill DataReader and we will pass values to List
End Function
</script>
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"></asp:SqlDataSource>

I have a ListView inside my UserControl which is showing a list of posts from the table named posts. I've also got a category table which is full of the categories. I then have another table which contains the PostID and the CategoryID so that posts can have multiple categories. I was wondering, in my ListView at the moment I only have a list of the posts but I would like to add, for every post in the listview, the cateogires it is in.

Using Vb.Net 2003 Asp.Net 1.1
I have a dynamic data bound drop down list, when the user selects thier selected item I have to use the autopostback feature.
Problem is: when the page comes back it is at the top of the page not where i have the control.
I don't really need it to focus back on the dropdownlist but to scroll to it, I want to do it in the code behind.
Any "New" ways to do it, I mean new as in code from like 2010 instead of old code from the early days.
I really don't want to use Page.Register new Script...... code if I can avoid it.
What would be cool is a ScrollToControl() Function for my code behind that worked but didn't register script.

I want to do is create a simple page which allows a user to post data into a data table. It should not allow them to view, update or delete any data.
Is there a good online tutorial which would guide me through how to do this in Visual web developer 2008?
I have connected a db, and can add "SELECT" controls to view forms, but I need to be able to INSERT to the table.

I have some dropdown list boxes that I need to fill with data from a database but I also need the first option to be "Show All"... So I need to combine using a datasource and manually adding an item to the top of the list. I have tried two different ways with no luck:
1. with the appendDataboundItems = true, on aspx page, and below code in codebehind:
//lstClass.Items.Clear();

Here is what I need to do:
- SELECT from a table
- Do something to the data after the SELECT but before anything else
- let the controls that are bound to my data see it.
I've already got working code to Undo my something when Updating or Inserting
These are the requirements:
- use a plain-jane SqlDataSource to do the SELECT
- doing the something has to take place at the SqlDataSource, not in events of the databound controls.
From the MS site the SqlDataSource.Selected event is where I should do "post-processing" however I can't find any examples of doing so.

On my .aspx code I have
<asp:ListBox ID="LBcategories" runat="server"
DataSourceID="SQLCategories">
</asp:ListBox>
When I was creating a datasource for the List box - it showed the correct data,but when I tested it on the Web - I see a listbox with 3 lines of value:"System.Data.DataRowView". After manually deleting a row from the database - I see only 2 lines. After deleting all rows from the table - the listbox is empty.
So why I don't see the table values, but the string "System.Data.DataRowView"?

I have PDF that opens in a browser (iframe) that has standard PDF form fields. I would like the user to fill out all the fields and then press an HTML submit button (located outside the iframe in the surrounding ASPX page) so that all the data in the PDF that was filled out in the PDF Form Fields posts that to another ASPX page.

If I have a Linqdatasource that isn't connected to a a bound control on my page how do I use the data source to read data in the code behind. ie
var query = (from x in linqdatasource select x)
What I actually want to do is create a data array (myArray) within the code, read all of the data from the linqdatasource (selecting 1 field to form tableDataArray), then compare the two arrays and then write (insert) those into in myArray that are not already in the datasource to the datasource (ie execute an insert back on the datasource).

I'm working with Front Page 2003 & ASP v. 1.5 For an online auction, I have created a table with 3 columns: username, amount, highbid ORDERED by Amount DESC.
I want to look at the 2nd record in the table, create a variable from the "amount" field, add 1,000 to it and post it in the first record's "highbid" field.
Then display on my web page the first record "username" and "highbid"
I have been stumbling around with trying to create a custom query in the database results wizard of FP 2003.

I have a SQL Datasource populating a Drop Down List with Company Names. The Select Statement the Datasource uses selects Company ID and Company Name.When a company is selected from the list, there is a button on the page to continue processing with the selected company. On the press of the button, I want to set a session variable for the Company ID of the Company selected. This Company ID is obviously held in the Datasouce. Any idea how I get at the Company ID.My code will look like the following:Session.AddsessCompanyID", ????????????)where ?????????? represents the source of the Company ID.

I want to bind an ObjectDataSource to a property in my asp page and I want to do it in the page's aspx code, not in code-behind. I've already done it in code-behind, as follows:
[Code]....
I'd prefer to get rid of the ugly code-behind and just do this in mark-up. Something like
[Code]....
This gives me a run-time error: Cannot create an object of type 'System.Object' from its string representation 'SelectedBook' for the 'DataSource' property.Is there a way of doing this declaratively and not in code-behind? Further, what if what I want is to actually use a child property of the property in question? For example, if my Book object has a ReaderComments collection, can I databind to it decaratively in the aspx mark-up?

I am trying to bind the datasource of a ddl which is located inside the EditTemplate of a TemplateField.When is the best time to bind this datasource (after loading grid, before editing, ? (Note: I must do this in code behind).I am currently trying to bind it on the edit command:
[Code]....
The issue is that the list retrieved from the LoadLists method is null when passing to the LoadList method where the datasource is bound.
