DataSource Controls :: Use Sqlbulkcopy From C#?

May 5, 2010

I'm using the SqlBulkCopy within my asp.net C# web form. I'm able to upload my excel file, but if the first row has any blank cells in it, that colum does not upload, I was wondering if anyone had any luck in looking for NULL/Blank cells and if so how did you handle them for the insert into the database?

DataSource Controls :: How To Truncate A String In A Database Table

Jun 14, 2010

I get an error when I try to update a row in an SQL database table with a string of fewer characters than were previously stored. I attempted to correct this problem by using the "PadRight" function in my C# webpage event handler to fill in the remaining characters with spaces, but I don't seem to be able to make that work. So, what do I do when I want to store fewer characters in a table row that has more characters previously stored in it?

DataSource Controls :: SqlBulkCopy + Key Violations?

Jan 18, 2010

I am confused by some behaviour I am experiencing when I use the SqlBulkCopy command.I have two tables in my SQL server database that I use to upload 2 tables of data from an excel workbook. The primary key of each table is customer account number, the first table being a table of accounts, the second being a table of details with the account number linking the 2 tables creating a one-to-one relationship.The bulk copy works a treat apart from one rather problematic situation I have found when performing error handling. If I put an account into the details table that does not appear in the customer table, instead of causing key violation errors it still adds the entry - I was under the impression that this was impossible?

If I go edit the entry using SQL Server management studio, I cannot change account numbers to anything that does not exist in the other table thus showing that the relationship exists and works when using standard update SQL.Does anyone have any idea why and how data that violates key violations is allowed through when I use SqlBulkCopy?

DataSource Controls :: SqlBulkCopy - String To Type Decimal In Target Column Error?

Mar 26, 2010

I read a CSV file into a DataTable.The DataTable in the first image shows each column and type.The types are exactly what they are supposed to be and the data loaded all the rows it was supposed to load.From the second screen shot you can see the database table. SqlBulkCopy is supposed to map column names to database columns by default.According to that logic each column matches up exactly to the database and the column types also match.However,when I run the command it errors on the first row with:

"The given value of type String from the data source cannot be converted to type decimal of the specified target column."

Here is the StackTrace:

"at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.ConvertValue(Object value, _SqlMetaData metadata) at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.WriteToServerInternal() at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlBulkCopy.WriteRowSourceToServer(Int32 columnCount) at

[code]...

Anyone have any ideas why this will not import correctly?

DataSource Controls :: Transaction Is Not Getting Rollback?

Mar 15, 2010

I have written several queries under one single transaction. When any of the query throws an error then the whole transaction should rollback. However, in some rare cases say 2% cases even after the error the next transaction is getting comitted.

note that all transaction processes (opening, committing and rollback) is done through .net.

I am using 64bit windows 2003 for data and application server. And website is configured for runapp32on64.

DataSource Controls :: DataSet TableAdapter Sometimes Not Generating Transaction Property?

Apr 21, 2010

I've got an odd problem and can't figure out what's causing it. We've got 2 different DataSets in the same project and I'm seeing different generated code from the MSDataSetGenerator. Both projects are .NET Framework 4.

In one DataSet, I can open the .Designer.cs file and there's a line like:

[Code]....

This essentially exposes a Transaction property to any partial class I create so I can do with it what I want (by setting it to something).

In the other DataSet no matter what I try to do, this Transaction property never gets generated. I've right-clicked on both DataSets and chose "Run Custom Tool" to get them to regenerate (I've even tried deleting the .Designer.cs file before doing this) and they both get generated the same.

I tried to make sure all the properties of the DataSets were the same. Both are using .NET Framework 4.0 and VS2010.

The file that does not generate the Transaction was from a .NET 1.0 asp.net web site that has continually been upgraded through different .NET versions. Right now it's at 4.0 but I don't know if that would have anything to do with it.

Flush Separate Castle ActiveRecord Transaction And Refresh Object In Another Transaction

Jun 15, 2010

I've got all of my ASP.NET requests wrapped in a Session and a Transaction that gets commited only at the very end of the request. At some point during execution of the request, I would like to insert an object and make it visible to other potential threads - i.e. split the insertion into a new transaction, commit that transaction, and move on. The reason is that the request in question hits an API that then chain hits another one of my pages (near-synchronously) to let me know that it processed, and thus double submits a transaction record, because the original request had not yet finished, and thus not committed the transaction record.

So I've tried wrapping the insertion code with a new SessionScope, TransactionScope(TransactionMode.New), combination of both, flushing everything manually, etc. However, when I call Refresh on the object I'm still getting the old object state. Here's some code sample for what I'm seeing:

Post outsidePost = Post.Find(id); // status of this post is Status.Old
using (TransactionScope transaction = new TransactionScope(TransactionMode.New))
{
Post p = Post.Find(id);
p.Status = Status.New; // new status set here
p.Update();
SessionScope.Current.Flush();
transaction.Flush();
transaction.VoteCommit();
}
outsidePost.Refresh();
// refresh doesn't get the new status, status is still Status.Old

DataSource Controls :: How To Work With Oracle And SQL Server Using EF4?

May 18, 2010

We are working in a new N-Layered application with EF4 as ORM. As a requirement, we need to give support for both SQL Server and Oracle existing databases.

Our wish was to build a single EDMX model and then generate our business entities from a TT file.

The main problem was that database providers may generate different .NET types from our database field types. In this case, we'll have different EDMX models and then different auto-generated entities, which is more or less the same as have two different applications.

I don't know if we could have different SSDL files with specific database information (one for Oracle and another one for SQL Server) in separete files and share CDSL and MSL information for both databases.

Would be this solution possible?

Someone knows some other way to work with Oracle and SQL Server using EF4?

database is not updated. Also I don't get any kind of error.

What is going wrong with the code?

Here is the code for the update page in second situation.. BTW I am displaying the details in a datagrid.
