I have a <asp:Parameter Name="Person_ID" Type="String" />. My Updatecommand contains, among other things: Person_ID = @Person_ID. That's all fine.
In my code behind, how to I say that I don't want to specify a value for this parameter, but rather want it to use the default value (which in this case is NULL?)
Or rather than telling it to use the Default value, is it possible to set it to Null? I tried setting the value to Null, but the sql code that got generated was Person_ID = "NULL", which of course, is wrong. How do I get it to generate Person_ID=NULL?
If Request.QueryString("departmentId").ToString() = "0" Then
SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters.Add("departmentId", TypeCode.Int32, 0.ToString())
I want to add a null value instead of 0.string() for the sqlparameter departmentId how do I do this?
Protected Sub FormView1_ItemUpdating(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.FormViewUpdateEventArgs) Handles FormView1.ItemUpdating
Dim IsPresCheck As CheckBox = CType(FormView1.FindControl("IsPrestigeChkBx"), CheckBox)
If IsPresCheck.Checked = "True" Then
SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters.Add("IsPrestige", System.TypeCode.Int32, 1.ToString)
Else
SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters.Add("IsPrestige", System.TypeCode.Int32, 0.ToString)
End If
but for some reason it's not seeing the parameter and returning an error
I want to check if an sqlparameter exists before adding a new one so I don't get the error - @param was supplied multiple times. IS this possible?
View 7 RepliesI am about to write a method that uses SQLParameter to insert some data into SQL server. However, do I "have" to specify a DBType? If not how is this handled?
Here is an example of the code I intend to write:

I have a problem with my SQL statement with the WHERE statement and I also need to return the declared variable. and I have a function which also needs to return the returned value but it's not passed in as parameter it passed back with a variable declared in the sql statement using the Return keyword I can't use OUPUT for declared variables so if there here's my code.

I am looking to cache a dataset and then filter the results as they will be used repeatedly. However, I don't know how to assign values in the filtered dataset to variables in C#. I have looked on the internet for the past few hours but all I can get in binding the dataset to a control.
View 4 RepliesI have a stored procedure which returns a value to state if the userlogin is valid. but i want to return the data and store it in a data session as i will require the user details in the checkout page.
is it best to get individual parameters out of the stored procedure then assign the variables to a datatable which is then assigned to session Or how can i get all the details returned from the stored procedure for the table? not sure which would be the most effective solution?
I need to declare a variable xyz, then, using a select statement, pass a variable into it so I can then insert it into a table.
Dim @xyz As
Integer
set @xyz = (select xyz
from systable)
1. I get a squiggly line below the @.
2. I get informed that set and let are no longer supported.
3. When I remove the @ I get the squiggly below select.
im developing a silverlight project using silverlight 3, vs2008 and linq2sql. when projects starts, im storing all the data from database into some static list variables. so when ever i need data, im reading it from those static list variables. all i want to know is, is it good to store data in static list variables and use it when ever necessary or is it good to get data directly from DataClassesDataContext object like db.mytable. which is the rite and fastest way or retrieving data. i mean which will use less connections to database?

I am looking to retrieve data from a database and assign those values to class objects which in turn will be turned into session variables. I am using an object datasource to retrieve the data from the database but I cannot find anywhere that shows how to assign these values to variables. The data is returned in a dataset. There is the added problem that there will be mulitple items returned which will have to be assigned to different arraylists of objects based on the a primary key in the database.
View 4 RepliesI am trying to get the results of the variables from a stored procedure to write out somewhere so I can see what values are being passed through for each variable in a button click. Does anyone know how to do that. Here is my code for the button click:

Well I'm not familiar with SP's yet, and I can't find a single example of what I want to do. basically I want to retrieve the town & county where the customers id are equal (note there will only ever be 1 result)
I can't figure out how to address the results to be stored within the output variables.
How do we get Text as a member of 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter'
See example of 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter', below:

Here is the snippet code to insert the Text as a member of 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter'

I am an ASP beginner, I have a stored precodure which accepts two input parameters. In my ASP project, I have a button click event
protected void OnAddClick(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
string concept = txtConcept.Text;
string keyword = txtKeyword.Text;
.......
int result = Helper.ConceptInsert(concept,keyword);
}
In my Helper.cs, I have a method as
public static int ConceptInsert(string description, string keyword)
{
int result = -1;
string connString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["MySpaceConnectionString"].ConnectionString;
string commString = "exec dbo.Concept_Insert @description";
using (SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connString))
{
using (SqlCommand comm = new SqlCommand(commString, conn))
{
comm.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@description", description));
comm.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@keyword", keyword));
conn.Open();
result = comm.ExecuteNonQuery();
}
}
return result;
}
But when I run the code, error message is always Procedure or function 'Concept_Insert' expects parameter '@keyword', which was not supplied. How can I pass those two parameters together to the stored procedure?
I am trying to follow this sample of inserting data through gridview rowcommand. But somehow Im missing the sqlparameter add method whilst the namespace was already added.
Code:
//sqlparameter declaration of list type
private List<SqlParameter> insertParameters = new List<SqlParameter>();
mygridview_rowcommand(...){
SqlParameter _prm_guid = new SqlParameter("@pk_guid", SqlDbType.VarChar);
_prm_guid.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input;
_prm_guid.Value = thisguid;
insertParameters.add(?); //error on add()
}
Some other part of the code which related to insertParameters variable it give an error
Code:
for statement cannot operate on variables of type List<System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter> because List<System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter> does not contain a public definition of GetEnumerator
Am I missing a file reference?
