View 6 RepliesI have stored procedure that increments a number. I am supposed to use the newly generated number and insert it into a table. My question is how do I execute the stored procedure, with a hardcoded value of 3 that it expects as a paramter, receive the number it generates as the output parameter and use it in the insert statement.
Here is the stored procedure code:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[Generate]
@myid int,
@next_no int output
AS
update mytable
set mynumber=mynumber + 1, @next_no = number
where myid=@myid
RETURN
Here is my insert statement, that I tried and it failed:
EXEC @GetNo = Generate '3'
Insert into customers (custid, name, phone ) values
( @GetNo, 'MSFT', '800-345-5678')
how do I add an output parameter to a Stored Procedure that returns a code or string to the calling app
View 1 RepliesIs it possible to return multiple values from a stored procedure? Basically, if I execute the stored proc on the C# side, then on the SQL side I do multiple calculations. Let's say I have 5 int values I need returned to the C# side.

set ANSI_NULLS ON
set QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
go
Create PROCEDURE [dbo].[sp_GetNextSeq] (
@p_NextSeqNo int = NULL OUTPUT
)
AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON;
BEGIN TRY
BEGIN TRANSACTION
Generate Next Sequence Number

I am having some trouble with the below code snippet. It is a stored procedure which executes on load that has an output parameter which should display in a label. Familiar which Vb however not so much in C#.
View 2 RepliesWhen can I use Stored Procedure? Is this useful for looping into multiple SELECT statements to return single value? How? Can anyone post some sample codes? I have text query and notice that my web application is slow and want to find ways to speed it up. Is there any possible ways aside from Stored Procedures?
View 4 Repliesi hav declare a Variable in stored procedure as@Total numeric(18,2) output..@Total Value is calculated 177.12 in stored procedure but when i return in Class.cs..its output is 177..
View 4 RepliesIs it possible to add multiple select statements in a single stored procedure. The select statements are getting data from different tables. If yes, could anybody provide an example in adding multiple select statements, which retrieve data from different tables in a stored procedure.
View 3 Repliesi want to retrieve the return value of following stored procedure in my Data Access Layer of ASP
CREATE PROCEDURE Procedure_login
So I am getting this error message:
Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter' to 'string' I have a stored procedure on SQL 2000 returning an email from a database table (aspnet_Membership). The email type from the table is nvarchar. I have a method (in C# in the code behind) that gets that value. But the debugger doesn't like the last line:
return returnEmail; // returnEmail is a string variable we created to capture the stored procedure's return value
I've tried doing returnEmail.toString() in several places, but still get the same error message for the last line of code (returning the email).
This is the stored procedure:
I have a stored procedure which returns a value to state if the userlogin is valid. but i want to return the data and store it in a data session as i will require the user details in the checkout page.
is it best to get individual parameters out of the stored procedure then assign the variables to a datatable which is then assigned to session Or how can i get all the details returned from the stored procedure for the table? not sure which would be the most effective solution?
how can i pass a session variable in a C# web form to a stored procedure..?
View 1 RepliesWhen it is bound to a datagrid. I do a grdELTCompletions.DataBind() and it shows that it's SELECTING, but returns nothing. I can execute the SP in MS SQL and it works fine. I just need know what elements of either the datasoure (sql to execute the SP) or the datagrid to find the error. Or even if there is a SQL log I can look at..

View 12 RepliesAm stuck with this sql stored procedure/asp.net vb.
I want to call the stored procedure and for it to return a true or false if successful ie username and password match.
My stored procedure works fine, and I can call it from my vb, however I stuck as to how I get it to return a result of true or false, 1 , 0. I just get a blank page.
My Codebehind (asp.net vb):

I have a Datatable and I want to send it in SqlServer as Parameter in stored procedure.
1. How i send datatable
2. How I use that datetable in sqlserver to read its data.
How do you call a stored procedure using C# .NET 3.5 that contains a parameter that is of type hierarchyid in SQL Server 2008?
A basic outline of my current code is as follows:
SqlConnection conn =
new
SqlConnection(DatabaseConnectionString);
SqlCommand StoredProcedureCommand =
new
SqlCommand("AddUser", conn);
StoredProcedureCommand.CommandType =CommandType.StoredProcedure;
SqlParameter ParamUsername = StoredProcedureCommand.Parameters.Add("@Username",
SqlDbType.NVarChar);
SqlParameter ParamPassword = StoredProcedureCommand.Parameters.Add("@Password",
SqlDbType.NVarChar);
SqlParameter ParamMasterNode = StoredProcedureCommand.Parameters.Add("@MasterNode",
SqlDbType.Text);
// HierarchyID type
ParamDynamboUsername.Value = Username;
ParamPassword.Value = Password;
ParamMasterNode.Value = "/";
conn.Open();
StoredProcedureCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();
conn.Close();
ALTER procedure [dbo].[Sample2]
@Col as nvarchar(1000),
@Value as nvarchar(1000)

I am using DAAB with stored procedures. I use stored procedures more then once if possible. If I add a parameter later in stored procedure, I have to supply value for this in functions where it is even not being used as well, other wise it shows an error that number of parameters are not same. if I add parameter in last of parameter list in stored procedure and set a default value for it and I may have not to provide value for this from functions where I am not using it.
View 1 RepliesI spent about 60 minutes sifting through search engine listings trying to figure this out and couldn't find an answer, so I decided to make this post for others.
Situation: Using a Stored Procedure to insert a row and return the new row ID, explained here. In my case, I used the Idenity_Scope to return the new row, like so:
[Code]....
Next, following steps as described in link above, went into the dataset XSD page, configured the table adapter to use this stored procedure. By default, it wanted my return value to be set to some value, but I set to allow Null (makes sense, since I don't want to pass the value in, I want to get it out, so it should be null to begin with).
Problem: Where I ran into an issue was in the method to call this stored procedure. The intellisense displayed the prototype it was expecting, basicly like this:
[Code]....
I have an sp that I would like to us the data from one column to use as a parameter for the following Select Statement
[Code]....
need to set the @customerID parameter = customer_data.CustomerID from the first Select Statement
I have an update function in my data layer which is defined as:
public int UpdateRBTable(parameters ...) This calls a SQL Server Stored Procedure to perform an update function on the database.
The process does its job for updating the table. However, the stored procedure has a return value (which indicates how many rows were updated), but this return value is not returned to the application. The application always shows that a zero was returned from the stored procedure.
I have a GridView sourced by a SQL Server stored procedure with several databound fields, including a money column for item values. My stored proc returns the data through a SELECT and everything looks good. The stored proc also has a single output parameter that sums the total value of the displayed data, and this value is displayed in a label above the GridView.
