DataSource Controls :: Match Address Of Same Property Between Two Tables?
Feb 12, 2010
I have two tables, both contains same properties. The problem is the address spellings MAY vary between table 1 and table 2 but they are actualy same properties. In my sql statement it list out the property that has exactly the same spellling. How do I match the two tables addresses? I heard about fuzzy algorithm but how do I apply it here. I know it wont be perfect but it will be close (check my sql below) I use sql server 05.
Example
Table 1
- 123 greenwood hwy
- 123 halo street
Table 2
- 123 greenwood highway
- 123 halo street
SELECT table1.address,table2.street_address
FROM table1 INNER JOIN
able2 ON table1.address = table2.street_address
My Output returns only one property that has same exact address spellings
- 123 halo street | 123 halo street

I'm trying to use a RegularexpressionValidator to match an IP address (with possible wildcards) for an IP filtering system.I'm using the following Regex:
"([0-9]{1,3}\.|\*\.){3}([0-9]{1,3}|\*){1}"
Which works fine when running it in LINQPad with Regex.Matches, but doesn't seem to work when I'm using the validator.Does anyone have a suggestion as to either a better Regex or why it would work in test but not in situ?

I am trying to pull entries from a database based on the current users IP Address. Here is what I have so far:
[Code]....
I am receiving the following error: Cannot find either column "Request" or the user-defined function or aggregate "Request.UserHostAddress.ToString", or the name is ambiguous.
Is it possible to do this? Should I try to access this information another way?

In pseudo code:
Get profile.emailaddress where username.text = profile.username

I have 3 tables as follows:
1 - Members containing the following fields:
MemberID int
MemberName
2 - Companies containing the following:
CompanyID int
CompanyName
CompanyType (S=Supplier, R=Retailer, C=Competitor)
3 - Member_Company_Link containing the following:
MemberID int
CompanyID int
The Company table contains any Company with a potential relationship to a "Member". For example:
Companyabc = C (Competitor)
Companyxyz = S (Supplier)
When a new Member record is entered, the user selects from two dropdowns: CompanyType (Supplier, Retailer,Competitor); and CompanyName. The CompanyName dropdown is populated depending on the value selected for CompanyType so if the user selects "Supplier" for CompanyType then only those Companies with a CompanyType of "S" for Supplier will be listed in the CompanyName dropdown.
The use can enter up to 10 CompanyType/CompanyName combinations. When the record is saved, these CompanyType/CompanyName combinations are saved in the Member_Company_Link table. One record for each CompanyType/CompanyName combination is entered in the table.
The problem I'm having is in the retrieval process. I have a "search" screen in which users can select certain criteria to list Members by and one of them is CompanyName. For example they want to see all Member records with "company xyz" as a Supplier and/or "companyabc" as a Competitor. Because each Member can have multiple Supplier and/or Comptitor records I can't figure out how to loop through them to match on the value entered by the user. If Member1 has 5 corresponding records in theMember_Company_Link file and 4 of them contain Companies that are Competitors (Competitor1, Competitor2, Competitor3 and Competitor4) and the search criteria is to find records containing "Competitor3" how can I loop through the values in the Member_Company_Link file for each MemberID to see if there is a match for "Competitor3"?
I know this post is too long and most of you will have ignored it by now but I'm hoping someone will have a clue because I've already spent more than a day trying to figure it out. It seems I have to store multiple values in an array but I have no clue how to do this.

Im new to stored procedures so this may seem a stupid question. What i'm trying to do is create a procedure that checks if username and password match, if true then reset the failed password counter to '0'.
The problem i get is that it keeps prompting for a userID as a variable, see code:

Traditionally with an Object Data Source, the wired up class will have its public properties available for binding (i.e. Gridview columns, etc.) which works well. But what if one of my wired up business objects has a property that is an object itself; can I drill down to a property on that object property and still use it?
So in additiona to the traditional:MyBusniessObject.OrderID...I want to use:MyBusniessObject.Customer.NameID
Your 1st response might be to just wire up the 'Customer' class, but I need properties both on 'MyBusinessObject'and 'Customer'. I do not think this can be done, as the ODS will not display properties on an object instance property. I have tried manually typing in the drilled down value as well, but that wasn't a success either.

I am storing a custom "Organisation" object as a session variable. One of the properties of the Organisation object is "OrganisationID" (integer). I have a DataSource that requires a parameter value to run, and I want to use a SessionParameter to populate this. In a previous version, I stored the OrganisationID directly as a session variable. In that case, I could easily access it like this:
[Code]....
However, how do I now access the OrganisationID property of an "Organisation" type session variable (called "Organisation")? I have tried this, which does not seem to work: <asp:SessionParameter Name="OrganisationID" SessionField="Organisation.OrganisationID" Type="Int32" />

I have a class (SearchClass) in which i have Origin property which is a "Address" datatype. I want to use the "Search" class in my Search.aspx. I want to bind the City field data to a CheckBoxList, but i could not do so? If it is a straight property of Search class i could do so, but if it is a property then i could not. "I am getting error "City" is not a valid DataTextField of something like that. The point is it is not recongnised. I even tried to inherit the Address class from Search.cs class, but i just see blank data. Now i am trying to a different thing. i.e. Inherit the Address in Search.cs class and while pouplating the Search Results in to a List object i am also planning to set the data of City too, along with populating the whole Address objects and try to use it in my binding. Is there any other way to do this (i mean more efficiently)?
SearchClass.cs:-

I have been playing a bit with ASP.NET MVC 2 using VWD 2010.After a bit of struggling with profiles(thank you MS for putting 2 web.config files in the solution...) I decided that after all I like this technology. I always thought that dotNET would be great for server side stuff and I've been proven right.Anyhow, I'm gonna start a real project now and I want to do something weird(yes, I know, I shouldn't be wanting to do weird things, but it's just beyond me :-) ): say I have a company website with roles and a forum.When I click on the nickname of a user, I want to bring his/her profile up - just like you would be doing with any decent forum out there. Well, my final idea is a tad more interesting in this regard, but let's stick it at that: click and see profile page.Problem is, I want this profile to be different for company employees and users.
I want some general informations such as first and last name, date of birth, photo, etc and then for instance I do not want to show the address property for company users. Yes I know I might want to put the company address there or leave it at all blank and I would rather not display it at all.From what I gather about profiles, this is possible only using views and checking for the roles, doing something like:
if User.Role == Company
{
// Stuff here

Is there a way to control the Outbound IP Address a .NET program uses?
We have Servers with multiple IP Addresses hosted at Data Centers with limited Firewall rules. We would like to open Port 1433 to our SQL Server to as few individual IP Adresses as possible. But this becomes difficult when a Server has multiple IP Addresses.
So is there a way to control what Outbound IP Address a .NET program uses? ...Even better would be if there's a way to control the Outbound IP Address in the connection string.

From using the command: EXEC sp_spaceused on a SQL 2008 database,
the DB has a size of 642.56 MB, unallocated space 148.77 MB.
I can also see the size of the individual tables from the same command:
Reserved: 103656 KB
Data: 98264 KB
Index_size: 2656 KB
Unused: 2736 KB
What I don't quite get is why the total database size is 642.56 MB when the size of the individual tables is so much smaller. We pay for the total amount, in chunks of 500 MB. I was trying to see which tables where causing the DB to be so big, but to me, it looks like it is not the size of the tables but something else.
What should I look at to figure out why we are taking up so much space? Am I not understanding how this works?

I need to join some tables to get the matching records. I often have to ask around to see how certain tables could be joined. Is there any way to query the information schema or some thing else to see what columns/values match in certain tables in order to figure out how tables should be joined.

I'm creating entity on a project to use them as data on my website. I got my base simple entity Users and my DataContext. The thing is i would like the database to create the table as i create Entities.
I mean, actually my database doesn't have a Users table and do not generate it as i build and launch the project. I used to be a Java dev and in Java the table can be created with JPA so i guess Microsoft made it possible with ASP.net but how to do? I've looked on the web but didn't find it.

Apologies if this is in the incorrect forum.. just a question about how to best structure some tables for a particular presentation of data. In the following table (2nd column) you'll see that each motorcycle product applies to a range of years. What is the best way to store this range of years in a relational db? At the moment I have a datefrom and a dateto field for the two ranges, but that may complicate things when I want to filter the table by a particular year. E.G. datefrom is 2006 & dateto is 2010 and I would like to filter by products for a 2008 model.

I have a problem where I would like to get a comma-separated list of items from a couple of tables as part of a set of results. All the searching I've done so far has produced results for dealing with one or two tables. I have four, and can't get my head around how to adapt the sql to deal with it.
I have the following layout:
*Table_Castings*
+---- CastingID {PK}
| MouldID
| SerialNo
| CastRef
| MeltCode
| Signature
|
|
| *Table_CastCertificates* *Table_Certificates*
| CertificateID {PK} ----------- CertificateID {PK}
+---- CastingID {PK} Description
FileID -----------------+
|
|
*Table_CertificateFiles* |
FileID {PK} -------------+
FullLocation
The results I would like include the following columns:
CastingID, MouldID, SerialNo, CastRef, MeltCode, [Certificates],
Where Certificates is a comma separated list of Description + " " + FullLocation records. (What I'll actually do is add http:// and other html codes to make FullLocation a hyperlink, but I can do that.)
Some SQL I've already got is this:
DECLARE @str VARCHAR(500)
SELECT @str = COALESCE(@str + ', ','') + '<a href="http://' + Table_CertificateFiles.FullLocation + '">' + Table_Certificates.Description + '</a>'
FROM Table_CastCertificates INNER JOIN
Table_Certificates ON Table_CastCertificates.CertificateID = Table_Certificates.CertificateID INNER JOIN
Table_CertificateFiles ON Table_CastCertificates.FileID = Table_CertificateFiles.FileID
WHERE (CastingID = 45)
SELECT output = @str
This actually gives all records in the for the specific casting, but I keep getting an error at the "=" in @str = COALESCE when I try joining it to another query to get each casting.
