Basically, the user Selects a row on GV that executes an Insert into a table the GV cell values of the selected row.
The SQL field data type is varchar. If the GV field is Null, the Insert adds the value to the SQL field. How do I keep the @nbsp; from being displayed in the cell of a data control when it is called at a later time? Do I add some more asp to my control parameter? do I add some vb code behind? Here are some relevant code snippets of existing code.
I have setup my business object to have a create_date and edit_date members both datetime datatypes. My company want to display the create_date and edit_date fields in a gridview for each transaction. The problem i have is that after insterting a record it will have a valid create_date but no edit_date and when displayed in the gridview it defaults to datetime.minvalue (My default). How on earth do i show an empty field in my gridview for a null datetime field in the database?
I am using similar architecture to the Imar Spaanjaars example of a tiered solution. With a few small tweeks it has worked well for me for ages. I am passing a List<Database> to my object datasource which connects to my gridview.
I've noticed that when i populate textboxes from a selected row in a gridview that if the field is blank it displays " " in the textbox.
Here is the solution I came up with. I check each cell before adding it to the textbox.
I get the feeling that I'm either doing something wrong to have this problem in the first place or that there is a better way to handle this.
protected void GridView1_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { //// Get the currently selected row using the SelectedRow property. GridViewRow row = GridView1.SelectedRow; // Load data from selected row into textboxes if (row.Cells[1].Text.Trim() != " ") { txtEditCust_ID.Text = row.Cells[1].Text.Trim(); } }
I have a gridview where I am looking to do a custom command with a template button. I am trying to get the current row that is being selected, but I cannot seem to figure out what I am doing wrong. Here is the gridview source:

Here is the code once you click the "Quick Update" button

I am getting the error message of "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when it tries to do this line:
How to set Height and ItemSource(Business Object as DataSource for Cell) for every Cell in DataGrid/ Grid? Shown below is part of code I am currently using with Grid Control. What I am currently doing is that I am using ListBoxItem, set Item Height and ItemSource at ListBoxItem Level, Add ListBoxitem to ListBox and then Add ListBox to Grid, It leaves me with just one row and multiple columns in the Grid, which is perhaps not the best way of doing it as it doesn't allow me to take benefits from UI Virtualization of Grid.
[code]....
I am open to use any control i.e. Grid/ DataGrid provided it allows me to set Cell Height and item source at Cell level. In my requirement, Cell height depends on the Item duration and size of image, which means the height of the cells may not be same across cells in any particular row.
I have a grid view populated with some data included bit fields and I made an export to excel function For each row i need to check the cell with the bit value to change the cell color, but the cell is always empty, even if is the field is set to False or True. foreach (GridViewRow row in gv.Rows)
I'm having a weird problem where the GridView cell that I'm programmatically updating turns grey, and throws a null error when attempting to save row. I have been searching all day and have not been able to find a solution. I'm guessing there is a problem with my code, so here it is:
Protected Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
I change the styles of the rows normal, alternate and selected via stylesheets. Additionally I implemented onmouseover, onmouseoout and class with gv_Alternativen_RowDataBound.
But when I do a mouseover in the selected row, the wrong onmouseout is placed there:
Protected Sub gv_Alternativen_RowDataBound(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.GridViewRowEventArgs) Handles gv_Alternativen.RowDataBound If e.Row.RowType = DataControlRowType.DataRow Then Select Case e.Row.RowState
In asp I want to add row to my gridview when I read barcode. But when I want to add second row , gridview.datasource = null. So, my first row is removed from gridview in TxtBxBarcode_TextChanged event.
TxtBxBarcode and gridview are in the different update panels.
How can I prevent this "gridview.datasource is null when Postback" ?
I have 4 gridviews on a page that get databound with a datatable from sql. So I have created the sort/paging events for each. These were working fine. However now they do not work.
I am not able to figure out why I am getting the null error at SqlDataSource10.Insert(); I tried running through break points and i checked the Insert statement and it has all the required values .. but I get error saying it cannot insert null into NrNarrativeDays. I am working off a sample at this link..
I have a gridview control in which rows have textboxes associated with a PopupControlExtender. The popup is just a panel with some checkboxes, ok, cancel buttons, etc. When the popup is shown and the Ok button clicked, I need to know which row in the grid, or which textbox in the row, is currently associated with the shown popup. How do I accomplish this?
I've read multiple sources that say Gridview's do not persist the Gridview.DataSource property on postback. My understanding is that in term's of ASP.NET, a postback is any page load that is not the first pageload (see MSDN). I've got a situation with 2 very similar gridviews.
GvOne.DataSource is null on postback. GvTwo.DataSource is NOT null on postback.
The only big difference outside of a few differing columns is GvOne is populated with the Entity Framework and LINQ. GvTwo is populated by a DataTable filled by a SqlDataAdapter. Further, GvOne and GvTwo have a TemplateField with a TextBox that I use to gather user input. Both use the same code to pull the TextBox.Text on postback:
Changing GvTwo to use Entity Framework and LINQ is a potential solution, albeit a major undertaking. Does anyone know what is going on here? UPDATE (See my comment on Joel Etherton's Answer) Due to popular demand here is the code to populate the gridview within Page_Load event for GvTwo (GvOne is similar):
Searching through the code behind I found no other references to ordersGv.Datasource and no other events that are hooked into associated with the page life cycle.
In the code behind, I have the event handler set up like this:
protected void MyGrid(object sender, GridViewSortEventArgs e) { var NewDataSource = from d in MyList orderby e.SortExpression select d; }
Now the problem is that MyList is null when the event handler takes over! I'm tracing it and I see it loaded fine, I see the gridview on the page with the correct data but as soon as I click a column header to sort the grid, the MyList goes to null! Why?
If I write the following code, teh gridview will no longer show the data
gridview.DataSource = null; gridview.Databound.
My question is , I want to make the same thing with a user control that contain a gridview. when I use the user control in an aspx page, I am able to populate it with data, but when I try to make this code, the Datasource does not show, instead, I see .DV. So I tried this code but then , I do not see DataSource property instead I see DV (DataView), when I put .DV = null, I get an error message that the object is not in existed. any idea how to clear the user control gridview from its data.
The code below iterates through directory, then I collect image titles and want them to be populated in gridview. code in bold is not working well, gridview is only filled with the last image in list.
how to fill gridview cell-by-cell only with available amount of images?
I don't understand why my Findcontrol on a selected row is not working. The only thing I can figure is because I put the Select button in an "edit row"???
I have a Gridview in Edit mode with a select button. I want the select button to take one of the values of one of the column, do an SQL lookup on that and then display the details in a DataList.

I get Object Reference not set to an instance of an object for the MyItem.Text.ToString
It displays in the txtComment textbox if Cell[14] has no data. Is there a way to prevent the from appearing when there is no data in the cell of the selected row?
here is my code for selectiong some records from db table
string strSql = "select * from mtblNBD where SentTo=@SentTo and InternalStatus Is NULL order by DeadLine desc"; SqlCommand com = new SqlCommand(strSql, con); com.Parameters.Add("@SentTo", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 50).Value = (string)Session["uname"];
here I am using parameters for SenTo field but not for NULL so it is ok... or should I use parameters for this field where value is NULL , if yes then how can I use parameter for this
