DataSource Controls :: Populate A Dataset With An Objectdatasource?
Sep 25, 2010
How do I populate a dataset with an Objectdatasource?
The reason is I have an Objectdatasource on a page which is populating a GridView ok.
I want to use a Dataset to control the DayRender of a Calendar Control and don't want to query the database again as the right date info is already in the Objectdatasource.
So can i populate a dataset with the objectdatasource ??

I've done a lot of searching on this here but I can't seem to find anyone who has done this. I'm sure it's a common problem but I can't figure out the right keywords to search for the solution so I'm sorry if this is a duplicate.I have a dataset where I've used the Generate Insert, Update, and Delete statements as well as the Refresh the Data Table options so that I can retrieve the last inserted ID when I'm using an ObjectDatasource.however, when I'm handling the ObjectDataSource-Inserted method, I'm getting a 1 as a return value, which I assume is the affected rows. I don't want that, I want the ID so that I can use it in my code.I looked at the generated code for the insert method and it is doing a SELECT after inserting, but it returns the whole row not the ID, so how can I get at this row to retrieve the value?

I have a dataset with several tableAdapters in it. For some reason, one of them that I created doesn't show up when I try to put it into my objDataSource?
I can access and use it from codebehind (testing purposes for this post.

I fill a GridView from a ObjectDataSource that points to a Typed DataSet.
I need to read a couple of row columns from the object data source that IS NOT part of the Gridview.
So far, I have found out that ObjectDataSource.ObjectDataSource_Selected is the right event to do this.
Examples on the internet refers to e.OutputParameters, but that appears to be empy even though rows are returned.
e.ReturnValue seem to contain a type related to the row type, but I cannot interpret this either.

My stored Procedure returns two tables say table1 and table2. When I try to fill the dataset, table1 is filling properly and table2 filling only one row of the table remaining rows coming empty. There is no error when I compile the code. And the output is an empty page.
Here the code I've used
SqlConnection cn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["NorthwindConnectionString"].ConnectionString);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("TABL", cn);
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;
SqlDataAdapter dad = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd);
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
dad.Fill(ds);
GridView1.DataSource = ds;
GridView1.DataBind();

My problem is as follows:I have a gridview that get populated from a stored procedure in my MS SQL database. This gridview has a column that is a link field that I click to navigate to a new page that should display the correct info in the relevant labels.So the gridview returns say five diffrent rows of companies (and this work great by the way) and lets say that the 'company name' is the link field column that I meantioned earlier. So now I the company name and this navigates me to the Company.Aspx page, which so far is all working well.What I cant seem to get right is how to pas the correct row of the the passed dataset to display in the correct label fields, here is a brief snippet of what I mean:
if (Session["objDataSet"] != null)
{
DataSet dsCurrent = (DataSet)Session["objDataSet"];

I have an ObjectDataSource in Visual Studio 2008. I have a DataSet defined with a TableAdapter. However, when I go to select the Table Adapter to use in the ObjectDataSource, nothing shows up. I double checked that the DataSet is in fact in the App_Code folder. I do not know what else to try. The following code is the ASP code for that ObjectDataSource:
asp:ObjectDataSource
ID="ObjectDataSource1"
runat="server"
DeleteMethod="Delete"
InsertMethod="Insert"
OldValuesParameterFormatString="original_{0}"
SelectMethod="GetData"
TypeName="NewDataSetTableAdapters.PlansTableAdapter"

I've created a query in the table adapter for retrieving customer name based on the first letter. The query is executed fine, and the output is the customer name and ID. A Customer BLL accesses this query, and sends the results to an objectdatasource. This control is configured to use this customer-by-letter query. However for some reason, this objectdatasource does not bind the name and ID, but instead all the other fields produced by the main query in the table adapter (i.e. name, address, phone, etc....).
I'm probably not configuring something correctly, but I'm not sure what.
The BLL code:

My Business Logic Layer has AddItem method that add's to Items table in db along with an entry in Balance table.AddItem method uses two TableAdapters Items & Balance. Both these have corresponding Business Objects as Item and Balance.
Here is the AddItem method :

Now executing this page generates error as
ObjectDataSource 'ObjectDataSource2' could not find a non-generic method 'AddItem' that has parameters: _item, _balance, ItemName, GroupId, CategoryId, AuId, Rate, TotalStrScale, OffsStrScale, OffsAE [code]...

I'm creating an ASP.net website with 3 layers (Presentation, BLL and DAL).
BLL and DAL are 'class library'. DAL has a typed dataset. Presentation refers BLL and BLL refers DAL.
I wanna populate my GridViews with ObjectDataSource, but it only shows me the DAL. Nothing from BLL...
What am I doing wrong?

Consider a fairly complex business object. For the sake of discussion, let's think about a "ClassRoom" object - that will have some attributes which occur once, such as "capacity" and "area". It will also have some repeating attributes - perhaps "desks" which will itself be a collection of desk objects. The desk object will in turn have attributes such as "width" and "height".My example is more complex, but that should show where I am coming from. The business object, as you would expect, exposes methods to get the attributes in and out. There is also logic included to perform the underlying database updates. Of course, the necessary business validation is also in there.
In terms of binding to the ASP page, I will need to bind the attributes of "ClassRoom" to a set of fields on the page (using one method on the object). I will also want to bind the desks collection to a Repeater or GridView (using another method on the object).Presumably, I need to find a way to use a single instance of the ObjectDataSource so that the updates to the two (or more) disparate sets of data can be kept in step. I suspect that if I simply put two data sources on the page, I will get two instances and therefore no correlation between them.This can't be a unique problem, but I'm struggling to find any useful information.

I was woundering if its possible for me to check for accesslevel value from the database using objectdatasouce.... From my coldfusion experience... i could just use an "if statement"
e.g: <cfif> (datasouce.column = x) then
<cfoutput> msg</cfoutput>
</cfif>
Am not so sure about .net.... All i am trying to do is to check for one value on the db and i dont mind puting it on code behind... i just need a way..

I have an objectDataSource which uses my stored procedure GetNotifications
And my GridView is bound to that objectDataSource
the only problem is that my stored procedure requires the variable @UserName and then returns the values for that username, but I do not know how to pass the variable to the objectDataSource, does anyone know the code for this?
I can get userName from HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name but how do I pass that to the objectDataSource?
