DataSource Controls :: Retrieving Strings From Database Table Instead DateTime - Formatting
Mar 23, 2010
On UI Ajax calendar control is used to allow the user Expiry Date as shown below. As this is one of the controls in search, when the Search button is pressed using SQL statement (copied below) data is retrieved from ExpiryDate column of the table. The table creator declared the column type as string and the dates are saved as single digits(Example: 2/2/10 sometimes and sometime as double digits (Example: 02/02/10) I like to know the best practice in retrieving both type of strings from database table. Calendar control

Action table:
ACT_AUTO ACT_HDSK_ID ACT_DATE ACT_TIMEIN
ACT_TIMEOUT ACT_ACTIONS ACT_STATUS
[code]...
How do I go about doing this in SQL? I need to return 3 columns: ID, the stuff combined into a single field, and the latest status of each ID. (by latest I mean the most recent entered record's ACT_STATUS. this could be based on the ACT_AUTO I think, which is the auto-increment number)

I've got the following ListView (extra code removed for clarity) :
<asp:ListView ID="lvParticipants" runat="server" DataSource='<%# Eval("Participants") %>' >
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="lblHomePhone" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("HomePhone", "{0:(###) ###-####}") %>' ToolTip="Home" />
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:ListView>
This does render the phone number, but it is unformatted (8005551212 instead of (800) 555-1212).Why is the formatting not applied?

I have a record created date stored as" 2010-05-16 15:44:18.700" in sql server database. When I read this date it gets converted to "5/16/2010 3:44:18 PM" . How should I read it so that I don't loose the ending '700' value so that it gets written exactly to another database.Code for reading the record:
String myConn = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DBConnectionString"].ToString();
SqlConnection con = new SqlConnection(myConn);
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand();[code].....

I am currently writing a small templating system in ASP.NET to allow users to add content. For example, the user can enter the string (variable type is string).
topHeader[x] = "They think it's all over. It is now!";
However, one change that's needed is the ability to add some basic HTML tags within this content, so the following can be done
topHeader[x] = "They think it's all over. <strong>It is now!</strong>" or
topHeader[x] = "They think it's all over. <a title="Football News" href="URL">It is now!</a>";
If you add such things into strings now they are not formatted as HTML, but I want to somehow escape them so that they can be. Naturally I've looked on the Internet for the answer, but as Razor is fairly new there's not much out there to help me out.

I need to format this date time into the format Day/Month/Year on the same template field.
I am avoiding doing this under SQL server because that will mean changing my data type in my dataset to string instead of data time which i do not want.
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Publish Date" SortExpression="PublishDate">
<EditItemTemplate>
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("PublishDate") %>'></asp:TextBox>
</EditItemTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="Label2" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("PublishDate") %>'></asp:Label>

I have a table in my aspnet database. I added a bottom row "Not Selected", if the user doesn't select from a databound drop down list. This row is at the bottom, because I just added it to the table data. Is there any way to move this one row to the top of the table manually? There is not "cut" and "paste" when I select the whole row.

I nearly completed my project and was about to put it out to be run. My boss was going to make a minor change to the connection string and then put it out there. In short, my application was running off a dummy database, while the real database was out there. I have the connection string comiple and built through out my project in the aspx pages and the cs pages.
However, my boss wants to be able to change a single connection string in a single place, essentially in the web.config file. I'm fine with that, but I don't know how to access the connection strings stored in the web.config files. How do you do that? So far, I've only created a new connectionstring in my code on each page. I've told him you could do a "find and replace" on all the files but he doesn't want to do that. In short, he wants to change the connection string the same way he does all the other projects he works with, php, vb and etc.
how do you access the connection strings stored in the web.config file programmatically?

I have a table in my SQL DB that is a DateTime table, what I want to do is take the numeric datetime it stores and convert it to a long date (i.e. 12/12/2012 conversts to December 12, 2012). Seaching the forums it looks like the string.format is the way to go and searching for info on that I found [URL] which lists all the different formats but they do not list a formating string to convert to the format I want to use. Does anyone know what format string I would use to convert a numeric date to a long date like I want? And can you show it in a code example because I am not 100% sure I understand the code examples shown on that site.

I am having trouble formatting the date on a textbox I get the error above if I don't enter the date in MM/DD/YY format in the textbox. I am also using this in a FormView so I can't format it or don't know how to in the code behind so if there is a way to format it in design view that would be preferable. Does anyone have any ideas on how I would do any of this.
<asp:TextBox Text='<%# Bind("BIRTH_DATE", "{0:d}") %>' Font-Names="Tahoma"
Font-Size="X-Small" ToolTip="MM/DD/YYYY" ID="txtBirthDate" runat="server"
TabIndex="2" CssClass="style5"></asp:TextBox>
