I am retrieving connection string based on value stored in cookie.NowI am making crystal report. I cannot hard code server credential. I have to get these credential from connection string from web.config. so that i can pass these credentials to my crystal report .

On UI Ajax calendar control is used to allow the user Expiry Date as shown below. As this is one of the controls in search, when the Search button is pressed using SQL statement (copied below) data is retrieved from ExpiryDate column of the table. The table creator declared the column type as string and the dates are saved as single digits(Example: 2/2/10 sometimes and sometime as double digits (Example: 02/02/10) I like to know the best practice in retrieving both type of strings from database table. may be the id's which should be displayed after fetching from the database. However, it should be displayed as it it is without any control or without arranging in any gird etc. How can that be done?

I have a page that lists products from a table based on the querystring. So if I say foo.aspx?fam=1 all the products from family 1 will be listed. How can I make my code list all the values if query string is empty? My SQL command would have to be different...can't really see how I can do this.

I have a web application that uses LINQ-to-SQL. It has a very strange issue, where a LINQ command retrieves the data that is supposed to be returned by another, totally different query that runs in a different thread. What could be the cause of this?
Specifically, a user accesses the application from his machine, opening a certain page. At the same time, another user accesses a different page from his (different) machine. One of the queries throws an exception, while the other returns the data of the first one, which comes from a very different table!
The case is always reproducible, whenever we stress the application with these two users. I've checked but I don't see any shared variables of any kind. What else could the problem be? What should I be looking for?

I get this error while trying to run my project: "Column name 'UserID' appears more than once in the result column list." Indeed, the query generated in my SqlTableProfileProvider.vb is the following (text in brackets [] has been changed):
"IF EXISTS (SELECT 1 FROM [table] WHERE UserId = @UserId) BEGIN UPDATE [table] SET UserID=@Value0, LastUpdatedDate=@LastUpdatedDate WHERE UserId = '[Guid]'END ELSE BEGIN INSERT [table] (UserId, UserID, LastUpdatedDate ) VALUES ('[Guid]', @Value0,
@LastUpdatedDate) END"
I'll emphasize that the above statement is generated in SqlTableProfileProvider.vb, which was written by .Net people. While I have little control over its source, I've apparently given the fodder whereby the mistake can be generated. Any clues as to why UserID is being written twice in the statement?

I want to create an application where I need to enter date to the ms access database.
I am a bit confused regarding how to make the user to enter date. The options avaliable are:
a. Shall I use a textBox?
b. Shall I go for 3 drop down lists?
or something else.
Some more questions:
1. what date format shall i use? (dd-mm-yyyy, dd-mmm-yyyy, etc, etc or anything else)
2. What datatype shall i use to store the date in the database?
3. What SQL query shall i use to retrieve the data between 2 dates?
let me know if there are multiple options available regarding this application.

I have a page which will retrieve data base on drop down lists and place the data onto a gridview. When the data was entered, each field was entered with multi-selected and delmited by a comma. In the database, some fields will have a string with multi information delmited by the comma, for example, Chicago, Atlanta, NYC will be recorded and place in the field in the database. I'm trying to search now but with a dropdown list with Chicago, Atlanta, and NYC being an individual record. If the person selects NYC, all of the records from NYC will appear even though Chicago and Atlanta are part of the string.

I am somewhat new at C# so forgive me if I have something listed wrong. This is what I got:
I am working on a school project designing a car dealership website. I have an inventory list that allows you to edit any car in the inventory. When you click on the edit button it takes you to the edit page and populates the controls with selections from the database. I have an options table that stores the VehicleID and Option ID. When the page loads it fills all the DropDownLists for the vehicle info with the data and selects the correct item according to the database selection but the CheckBoxList does not select the items that are on the Options table. I checked the query in SSMS and it returns the correct data. I have stepped through the method and it works till the "(currentCheckBox != null) if statement. It doesn't throw any errors but it also doesn't select items when the page renders.
I thought it might have been something with the page life cycle since databound controls don't render until the end but the DropDown's I have fill and selects the correct item according to the database.

When I call select in codebehind, after 30sec it throws timeout expired SqlException:

again , this select took up to 3 sec to be executed. In application I tried to use SqlConnection and SqlTableAdapter instead of SqlDataSource, with the same query, and again it took up to 3 sec.
If I choose tighter interval (e.g '2011-01-20 00:00:00' - '2011-01-21 00:00:00') , there is no timeout exception, so I know that sqldatasource select is executed correctly. So the conclusion is that sql server is not using index while executing query sent from sqldatasource, but is using index whenever else. I have also checked the index statistics on sql server and it is like that. In profiler i can see slight difference between this two cases. As for SqlDataSource, in events table, in first column "EventClass" after 30 sec, there is this: "RPC:Completed" and application throws timeout. If i use SqlConnection and SqlTableAdapter then at the same place there is this: "SQL:BatchStarting" and "SQL:BatchCompleted" and application does not throws timeout(the index has been used).
what is so special on SqlDataSource connection, that Sql Server performs differently compared to other types of connections?

On my webpage, jobs.aspx, I have a gridview which is populated from my database. I would like it so that when a row in the gridview is clicked, the ID of the row from my database can then be passed through as a query string to a second webpage, details.aspx, where more information about what was clicked on will be displayed.
I'm confident about being able to pass the query string, I just need help with getting the corresponding row's data ID from my database and making the gridview click-able, which will be the interaction which specifies which ID to be retrieved.
