What is best way to format date filed from datatable without showing the time?
ClosingDate is smalldatetime in my SQL DB.

I need to format this date time into the format Day/Month/Year on the same template field.
I am avoiding doing this under SQL server because that will mean changing my data type in my dataset to string instead of data time which i do not want.

I'm looping through an ArrayList and creating a column in a DataTable from each field. One of my fields is a DateTime field, and I've noticed that when I create the columns, it's being changed to a String, but I need it to still be a DateTime field for sorting. I'm trying to do this, but it's not quite working.

View 6 RepliesI have a table in my SQL DB that is a DateTime table, what I want to do is take the numeric datetime it stores and convert it to a long date (i.e. 12/12/2012 conversts to December 12, 2012). Seaching the forums it looks like the string.format is the way to go and searching for info on that I found [URL] which lists all the different formats but they do not list a formating string to convert to the format I want to use. Does anyone know what format string I would use to convert a numeric date to a long date like I want? And can you show it in a code example because I am not 100% sure I understand the code examples shown on that site.

The table creator declared the column type as string and the dates are saved as single digits(Example: 2/2/10 sometimes and sometime as double digits (Example: 02/02/10) I like to know the best practice in retrieving both type of strings from database table. I want to disable few entries in the dropdownlist that's in the template field, depending on the value in BoundField when the gridview is being populated.

JobStatus is the dropdownlist in the template field, and Status is the boundfield. In run time, the bolded line causes below exception: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. which I think is wingeing about null variable. Perhaps the templatefields are created after RowDataBound event?

View 1 RepliesI'm using a formatting expression with a template field. When the details view goes into edit mode the formatting is applied. It looks great because it applies the currency formatting. It shows up as "$60,000.00" instead of "60,000.0000". But then when I do the update it gets rejected because of the $. Is there a way to keep the formatting for the user to see in edit mode but remove the $ when doing the update so I don't get the error?

I am having trouble formatting the date on a textbox I get the error above if I don't enter the date in MM/DD/YY format in the textbox. I am also using this in a FormView so I can't format it or don't know how to in the code behind so if there is a way to format it in design view that would be preferable. Does anyone have any ideas on how I would do any of this.

I'm using ASP .NET C# 3.5. I have a multiline textbox on my web form that allows for the input of up to 5,000 characters from the end-user. This text is a basic description of a training course. I need to display it out in a clearly formatted way. For example, I need there to be bullets and bold text.
What I did was I chose certain (not often used) characters and then used the .Replace method when displaying the text in an <asp:Label>. If the text in the database contains the character '~' then I replace that with a line break <br />. If it contains '`' I replace that with <b> and if it contains '^' I replace that with </b>.
Is there a better way of doing this? It is working properly, and I'm displaying the text properly, but I know the end-user is going to hate typing text like this for formatting. I do want this all to stay database driven as well

View 5 RepliesI am setting up a routine whereby I have to copy the results of a MySQL stored procedure into a DataTable so that I can add fields to the end of the result.
Normally I would convert the Msql DateTime to something that I could more easily manipulate; however, the existing code that I have specifically addresses the MySql DateTime type in too many ways to easily change.
So I thought I could do something like this:

returnDataTable.Columns.Add(myDataColumn);
And substitute "MySqlData.Types.MySqlDateTime" for "SystemDateTime", but it fails with "Column Requires a Valid DataType".
I'm loading data from my database into a DataTable, and one of the columns is a date field.

I'd like to format that column so that instead of containing a full date, it will be formatted like "MM/DD/YYYY".
I've tried looping through each row in the table and changing the cell for that column, but I get an error saying that the string isn't a valid DateTime object.
I tried changing the column DateType to a string, but I get an error saying I can't change the DateType after the table is filled.
How can I do this? This seems like such a simple thing, but I'm having so much trouble with it.

This value returns e.g. 15/04/2010 8:00:00 but I would like to split the day value (15), month value (4) etc from the overall datetime value, so I can assign dropdowns with corresponding (preselected) day, hour selection ..I know the dropdown assignment process, but I can't get the datetime field/value split ..

I now want to add an htmlAttribute to this, to make the rendered <input> element read-only, for example:
new {@readonly="true"} The problem I have, is that the MSDN documentation for TextBoxFor (see [URL] says only allows two arguments are allowed, the LINQ expression, and a dictionary or object containing the htmlAttributes. So I have two questions:
1. What is the role of "String.Format("{0:g}", Model.LastPolled)" in the scaffolded version? This obviously works, but doesn't seem to be an htmlAttribute.
2. How should I modify the scaffolded version so that the readonly attribute will be used?
