DataSource Controls :: Use The LoginName As A Parameter In An SQL Select?
Feb 3, 2010
I need to do to get the LoginName value.
Once I can retrieve it I want to use it as an sql parameter.
I've tried user.identity.name, profile.username and many variations, but they all draw a blank.

Im working on my Dissertation and am seriously stuck. Im creating a blogging site with the ability to log in, this will also include the ability to search for projects etc. (created in Visual Studio in VB)
There are different roles: Student, admin, tutor. the table is made up of 2 tables aspnetdb.mdf and blogging.accdb; the first was created by visual studio and the later is mine that contains the projects, bloggs etc.
I want to use the asp:loginName in a search that is sourcing its data from the blogging database, Iv tried for days to do it myself, by trying to write an inner join manually, using its full name etc but keep coming up against a brick wall.

I have seen this question asked about a half a million times and I still haven't been able to get my solution working by reading there answers.
First off I am using visual web developer 2008 express. I am brand new to asp.net net so me="nub"
I watched some videos on how to setup a website soloution and I did got a free cs and all that got it working. I installed the Ms Membership for loging in and out of my website. I got all that working. I installed the database for the membership on a sql server followed the video for doing that and everything works.
I then decided to do something so simple. I thought it was so simple.
I created a dropdown list using the control and I wanted it to go out to my database on my sql server and get my account numbers and filter them by using the current membership member that is logged in. I see that I can display my current user like this
<asp:LoginName ID="LoginName1" runat="server" />
I can see my user log in and out of the website and that seems to work fine.
So here is what my current dropdown list looks like I say current because I have tried this a ton of times with different parm options but none work.

I have just got the login control working, and would like to grab the currently logged in username (I'm guessing via the loginname control), and then have the Drop Down list on the default.aspx select the matching name. The names don't exactly match so, I could hard code compare them via a select case or if statement, but the problem is I don't how to get the logged in username into a variable, and I don't know how to have the drop down list (which is databound) select the record.

The drop down list is used to determine what search criteria will be used to find an invoice. I tried to set the Select method in the switch statement. I don't understand how to set the Select Method and the select parameters programmatically though . I tried a few different ways but can't make the compiler happy. My ODS is in scope in the code behind. I'm not able to access it's properties though. The BAL resides in a separate project that is a ClassLibrary. I also have a using statement for the ClassLibrary project in the code behind.
give me an example of how to do this?

protected void Button19_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
SqlDataSource conn = new SqlDataSource();
conn.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["Database2ConnectionString1"].ToString();
conn.SelectCommandType = SqlDataSourceCommandType.Text;
conn.SelectCommand = "SELECT FROM table1 (a, b)VALUES(@a,@b)";
conn.SelectParameters.Add("a",TextBox1.Text);
conn.SelectParameters.Add("b", TextBox2.Text);
int rowsAffected = 0;
try
{
rowsAffected = conn.Selectt();
}
catch (Exception)
{
Label1.Text = "Error";
}
finally {
conn = null;
}
if (rowsAffected != 0)
{
Label1.Text = "Data saved";
}
}
well it returns error no overloading method for select (P.S. same code work fine for insert)

I will declarate a attribute, but it gives me an error
This query works fine and returns 1 record from type int:
SELECT TOP 1 DataObjectVersionID
FROM tblDataObjectVersionPropertyValueText
WHERE PropValue like CAST('00010281' AS ntext)
ORDER BY DataObjectVersionID DESC
And when I will declarate a attribute/parameter it gives me an error:
DECLARE @dataObjectVersionId INT
SET @dataObjectVersionId = SELECT TOP 1 DataObjectVersionID
FROM tblDataObjectVersionPropertyValueText
WHERE PropValue like CAST('00010281' AS ntext)
ORDER BY DataObjectVersionID DESC
Error message:

How do I set a select parameter from a value in a DetailsView?

I am doing a library application. I am using a formview control to display and edit the details of an existing borrower.
What I wish to do is to allow the user to enter the borrower barcode into a textbox and select the details of the borrower corresponding to the barcode.
At present I have kept the textbox and a button outside the formview. Once the user enters the barcode in the texbox and clicks the button, the data is displayed in the formview control.
Now, my doubt is that is there a way to keep the textbox inside the formview control itself and use the value(Which should be user input) for selecting the details?

I have several web forms which use a GridView linked to a DataSource control which is defined at design time as follows:
<cc1:pgsqldatasource
id="dsStates"
runat="server"
connectionstring="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PgSqlConnection %>"
oldvaluesparameterformatstring="Original_{0}"
providername="<%$ ConnectionStrings:PgSqlConnection.ProviderName %>" >
</cc1:pgsqldatasource>
As you can see, the connectionstring parameter is defined to a specific connection string name and I need to be able to set such a parameter to a different value, for example, to a session variable content.

I am storing a custom "Organisation" object as a session variable. One of the properties of the Organisation object is "OrganisationID" (integer). I have a DataSource that requires a parameter value to run, and I want to use a SessionParameter to populate this. In a previous version, I stored the OrganisationID directly as a session variable. In that case, I could easily access it like this:
[Code]....
However, how do I now access the OrganisationID property of an "Organisation" type session variable (called "Organisation")? I have tried this, which does not seem to work: <asp:SessionParameter Name="OrganisationID" SessionField="Organisation.OrganisationID" Type="Int32" />

I am defininging all my sqldatasource select parameters upfront in the .aspx file. Then based on user filter choices, I modify the Select Command to include those parameters. Works fine, but when I add one of these parameters, the bound grid doesn't pull back any results. No error message is given.
If I remove the ToteID control parameter line below, everything works fine. But with it in, the SQLDataSource.Selecting event doesn't even fire.

We have a stored procedure which creates and returns as output the next value in line:
[Code]....
Yes, the dullards who created this system not only failed to use an identity for the primary key of this table, they then proceeded to add 1 to a varchar column to create the new value, thus insuring it can never be anything but numeric.
Sigh. I'm told we cannot address that obvious deficiency now, and we have to leave the column as varchar. Double sigh.
If I execute this sproc from SSMS, the hh_num variable is returned as expected:
[Code]....
However, when I run it through the application, the parameter I set up as output does not get its Value attribute changed:
[Code]....
I've verified that the "@hh_num" maintains its direction and name through the ExecuteNonQuery call, but its Value remains an empty string.

I´m in need to export datagrids to excel. I found a good solution in C#. I´m a newbie at VB.net. I have got it to work but I´m not familar to set the SQL connection and bind data in C#.
I need to declare my query with a calendar parameter but I have no idea how this should be done in this code.
Either, how do I set parameters into the C# code or how can I set a SQLDATASOURCE in the ASPX file and still run all code.
