Feb 2, 2010
I am using ASP.NET 2.0 and C#. I have a gridview and a button to load the data into the gridview in my web application. Below is the code:
[Code]....
The grid is loading very slow with the data, as there as more than 1000 names being filled.
How to improve the performance?

I mean, what is the faster way to get as fast as I can more than one table with stored procedure? Is there any study what is faster and why? There is a big problem getting more than one table at once with Entities, so the only way is DataSet. But I was told DataSet work very slow. Is that true?

I have a gridview to which i am adding rows dynamically at the click event of a button placed in gridview footer template. When i want to update data. I have to load the gridview with all the rows required. I get the sql table data in the dataset object and then i have to load this in the gridview. How can i do this? Only one row gets loaded when i use this code:
DataSet DSContact = DMLObj.Load_DataSet("Usp_LoadData", "ContactPerson", idf); foreach (GridViewRow row in GVContactPerson.Rows) { ((TextBox)row.FindControl("txtContactName")).Text=DSContact.Tables[0].Rows[0]["ContactName"].ToString(); ((TextBox)row.FindControl("txtemail")).Text = DSContact.Tables[0].Rows[0]["ContactEmailID"].ToString(); ((TextBox)row.FindControl("txtmob1")).Text = DSContact.Tables[0].Rows[0]["ContactMobile"].ToString(); Session["contact"] = ((TextBox)row.FindControl("txtContactName")).Text; string pid = Convert.ToString(DMLObj.getid("Select ContactPersonID from tbl_ContactPersonDetails where ContactName='" + Session["contact"].ToString() + "'")); Session["contactID"] = pid; }

I was searching for my problem for last couple of days. But coudn't find a better solution. So here I go again. What I did which worked great: I was going to a asp page with pre populated Dataset (dataset is already loaded with data), for a GridView. If I do the following .... the GridView shows all the data (with the fields Dataset comes with).
[Code]....
Now what I am trying to do: I am trying to do exact same thing but instead of using GridView, I would like to display data in a FormView. So now I tried to do this
[Code]....
PROBLEM: I can see the FormView Header with text "Test Dataset With FormView" and below the Header it displays the page numbers. I know that I have 3 data in the data set and I can see 3 page link in the FormView. But PROBLEM is it doesn't display any Field / Data. Not sure why it is doing this
Note that I wouldn't know what field to display in the FormView. Whatever I have in the Dataset I need to display. Is there any work around to accomlish my work (maybe by not using a FormView, but other conrol ?). My original goal is to Display Data in a Form View Format (One data at a time

I currently have a datagrid bound to a table with tens of thousands of records. I display the datagrid using the existing asp.net 2.0. I show ten records at a time.
My problem is whenever I try to access the next page, I gets all the records again from the database and then displays the ones that are required. This is slowing down the app. Is there feature within .net 2.0 which will help me optimize this issue? I cant use third party controls or ajax.
UPDATE
I cant use SQL to get 10 records at a time as well. Without changing any existing business logic or data retrieval, I want to do this.

I am trying to find the best way to have a page with a lot of data from queries to a database load faster. Looking at [URL], when viewing information about a domain, I see that their page loads and each section has a loading symbol, so the page itself displays fast and the data comes when it is available. How do they do this? Update panels around each section with a call to a Web Service? Also, Google AdWords seems to do this too when you load the Ads or Keywords tabs of a Campaign.

I am new to asp.net and I'm trying to build my first web page, but when I try to fill a dataset at the page load event I get an error: object reference not set to instance of object. I've done this many times in vb.net. I can't figure out how to step through my code like I do when I'm creating a desktop app, so I don't know exactly where it's failing. I like to be able to see the values of things as it goes through the code.
Code:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Label2.Visible = False
Dim dsCheckExisting As New System.Data.DataSet()
dsCheckExisting.Clear()
Dim adLookup As New OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter
adLookup.SelectCommand = New OleDb.OleDbCommand
[code]...

I'm doing an ajax work where web service will return data and on client side and I am creating html table with data.I am using var (to hold string of generated html code), do string concatenations to generate table, tr and td tags and put data in it. Then I put this html table with data into a div using innerHTML. I am applying inline css in this dynamic html code.
The issue I am facing is the web service will return a huge amount of data. What I tested is even on local machine it took about 10-12 minutes to process (concatenating, creating tags putting data in table, applying css) 10000 rows. Stored procedure just take 3-4 seconds in returning data. how this in-browser processing time can be reduced ? I am doing it for speed in some wrong way ? Or is there some technique for it or some method faster than innerHTML and string concatenations ?

In my project I work with Entity Framework (LINQ to ENTITY). I only have ADO.NET Entity Data Model and a DAL (Data Access Layer). I also get the data due a WCFClientService. I have a gridview that needed to be exported in Excel.
FlexCel is a tool for generating Excel files based on a template. The only thing I see in demo's is that they work with DataSets.
Is there a way to convert the data in my gridview to a virtual DataSet?
I've written the following method to get the data:

What I am thinking is this? Is it possible for me to upload the data from an excel file to dataset of my application first, so that the user can view the data in a gridview to review it first, before the user strike the save button, to save it in the database. So, that in case there is a problem, the gridview will high light all the data with an error. So the user can easily pull out the excel and correct the data before saving it in the database.

I am investing some time in learning ASP.NET and more specifically ASP.NET MVC and I am curious how it stacks up to the competition. I really like what I am seeing so far with the framework, and I think the icing on the cake would be if it shows rock solid speed like I have seen with some ASP.NET form sites.
Has anyone done or seen fair comparisons or benchmarks? I would be interested to see how ASP.NET MVC stacks up against other solutions such as PHP MVC too.

i find a lot of websites that have some parts in the page that uses ajax much more faster than i used to see ajax requests
like changing views using tabs when i click a tab it changes content very fast than i used to in my web applications using Asp.Net and Ajax Control Toolkit
and also a very quick paging in repeaters or grids than i ever developed in my web apps
like this website [URL] i need to know which technology used to achieve this this website is developed using .net
so
but i need to know is this needs another technology to learn (from where can i learn it)
or is it just asp.net + ajax or whth other technology
is it MVC
also i want to know if MVC is better than asp.net + ajax in concern with performance

Are you experienced with both ASP.NET and WPF coding? If so, I'll be grateful if you'll share your experience, We are estimating a 100-screen WPF project. Our estimation methodology involves characterizing the complexity of each screen. We then apply a standard number for the development time, based on the complexity and the technology. The standard number is based on the developer being good, not a super-star.
For example, here's a screen:

Why does ASP.NET pages render time on Chrome and FF is ~ 3X the render time on IE ??This problem only persist on my local machine, but when published to the real server the complete opposite happens (expected, as FF and Chrome outperform IE).
I tried Windows 7 x64 and Windows XP x86 with FF 3.6, Chrome 9, and IE 8.
Is there any thing I can do on IIS or in the web config to fix this behavior ?
EDIT: In response to the responses an domments:
I don't have these issues when running PHP + apache, or JSP
I noticed this behavior when doing a debugging session in VS or after deploying on IIS
Modifying the hosts file did improve Chrome and FF response time indeed, but still slower than IE !
