View 5 RepliesI am a complete newcomer to ASP.NET. However in the few weeks I have been playing with it I have got pretty far and have mastered things like stored procedures, gridviews, formviews and templates.I have a dropdown box which is populated from SQLDataSource1
I have a second dropdown box which is populated from SQLDataSource2, but i need the query feeding this to be dependent on what was selected in the first dropdown box. I assumed it would simply be a case of modifying the select statement on SQLDataSource2 using the SelectedIndexChanged event on the first DropDownList to update the second SQL source, but I cannot work out for the life of me how to do it. Pretty much all of the code I have is ASP.
can i do this purely in ASP rather than using VB behind the scenes or do I need to use VB? I am pretty comfortable with vb.net but one of the other issues I have is referencing an ASP object from VB... so for instance if I had a text box in ASP, how can I read or change the properties of this object from VB?
FYI I am using Visual Studio 2010 and SQL/Server
i have a asp menu in master page and it is populated from database.
i want if user click a link that menu link's background color should change how to do?
I am using frames in my webpage.in one of the frames i have a menu control whose items are database driven.when click on the menu item, i want another page to be displayed in other frame.
now i want to pass the the selected menu item text to the other page using session variable which is in the menu item click event method.but the thing is when i click on the menu item, the click event is not firing.
is there any better way to pass the selected menu item text to the other page?
I'm trying to style an asp:Menu, so that when I hover over a child menu, all the parent menu's will have the background mouse over selected colour. (Take a look at the win xp start menu for example, with default theme blue, all parent menu's will be highlighted as blue if a child is selected) At first I thought this was something simple, but after intense researching (google), I am beginning to wonder...

View 1 RepliesI have a dozen tables, and two dropdown lists.The first drop down list shows the table names. The second dropdown list needs to be poulated with the data from the specific table selected in the first dropdown list.I wrote a stored procedure that will query the selected table name choosen in the the first dropdown list. My results though are only showing this...

Values in multiselect dropdown not getting selected when Select All option is selected for a SSRS dropdown. There are multiple dropdowns on the page. We have one dropdown whose output is being used to populate the second dropdown using a stored procedure. When we check the Select All checkbox on the dropdown then ideally upon page refresh all the values should get selected in the dropdown, but in this case the page refreshes back to the blank dropdown, forcing the user to select the values again. The next dropdown too does not get populated. This makes it impossible to run the report for all the cases by using Select All. We ran the report on differnet database environments. My current location is Mumbai,India, the report worked fine when we ran it on a Bangalore,india database. This issue occurs when we try running it on a Chicago database server. I am using SSRS 2005, SQL2005.

it is in Persian Language(IRAN).the problem is the menu(blue color) is not showing the contents in some browsers on some computers.?
when I hover over a menu option it's contents are shown above instead of the Bottom off. Even though the hover control says bottom. In my browser and others it works fine, I use IE8. But some browsers it's goes wrong.

I need to do some styling to a bunch of webforms, containing articles formatted in a rather uniform way. I can change any source code I want.
What I need is a quick way to dynamically create a navigation menu (on the server side) for an ASP.NET webform, based on contents of a specified div.
For example, given the following HTML:
<div id="article">
<h2 id="first">Chapter 1</h2>
<p>Some text...</p>
<h2 id="second">Chapter 2</h2>
<p>Some other text</p>
</div>
I would like to insert something like this at the end (and render it at the server side, not in a script):
<div id="navigation">
<ul>
<li><a href="#first">Chapter 1</a></li>
<li><a href="#second">Chapter 2</a></li>
</ul>
</div>
NOTE: I know I could iterate through parent div's child controls in codebehind (although I would need to make them all "run at server", or even parse the InnerHtml property of the parent div), but if feels pretty weird.
Also, I am aware that if the article was being created from a data source, I would have the content already organized, but I would like to make as little changes needed in the existing pages.
How to fill the value in drop down box according to value selected in another drop down box?
View 1 RepliesI need to display the contents of a file selected from a ListBox into a text box. When I populate the ListBoxItems, I set the Text property to the name of the file and its full path to the Value property.
When I click the item, the page refreshes because AutoPostBack is on, but nothing happens. I then tried this:
VB.NET Code:
Protected Sub lbLogs_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles lbLogs.SelectedIndexChanged Me.txtServiceTag.Text = Me.lbLogs.SelectedItem.TextEnd Sub
But it still didn't work.
I have a form in asp.net mvc that retrieves records from the database. this form have dropdowns. in Edit action of controller it is must to have selected the already inserted items. suppose if i am taking the User information for edit, then its City,State and country must be selected as they inserted before.
So i tried in Edit:
int CityId_ = objAM.GetCityName(User.CityId);
ViewData["Cites"] = new SelectList(City.GetAllCities(), "CityId", CityName", CityId_);
same like country and state. but though CityId_ have value but it no appear like that. It defaults from first city (same for all) why this because ?
i just gone throught this blog where i found , the assigning third parameter name should be in the object's property. but let say I have primary and Fk relationship, but columns name are different then it seems MVC strongly coupled feature fail. Why this is ?
I have dropdown menu item ("pin this site") that i need to hide it or hide menu item itself ("My Network").
When I saw viewsource on page, I got below code.
<a class="zz1_TopNavigationMenu_1 ms-topnav zz1_TopNavigationMenu_3
ms-topnavselected zz1_TopNavigationMenu_9" href="http://mynetworkqa.spe.org"
style="border-style:none;font-size:1em;">My Network</a>
<a class="zz1_TopNavigationMenu_1 ms-topNavFlyOuts zz1_TopNavigationMenu_6"
href="javascript:__doPostBack(,
'ctl00$PlaceHolderTopNavBar$PlaceHolderHorizontalNav$topSiteMap''Pin')"
style="border-style:none;font-size:1em;">Pin this site</a>
How can I hide menu item?
I have a asp:menu that's using data from a .sitemap file. This site is running on server 2003 asp.net 2.0. I assume IIS v6? When using IE9 normally the dropdown menu shows but you can't select anything from it (the pointer goes away when you hover over it) and it disappears. If you go into Compatibility mode, the dropdown menu shows and you can access the menu items but the item hover background color is lost (supposed to be white with #CC0000 text. Background is #CC0000 so you can't see the text).
This didn't happen with any other versions of IE. If you check it in any other browser, it works as expected.
Funny thing is if I run it out of my local IIS v7 (Win7) or my dev server from VS 2010 (localhost), it works fine in IE9.
How to create dropdown menu bar in asp.net?
View 1 RepliesI just recently got complains from some of my customers, that their drop down menu does not work in IE. The drop down menu is just a white frame, and when navigating down the menu disapperas. I investigated the problem, and found that it works fine in IE6 and other browsers.
View 1 RepliesI was wondering if ther is a Way to select a table name from a DropDown Menu and then dispaly the data in say a GridView?
For Example;
In PHP you can post a Value to a Veriable and Put that Veriable into a SQL Statement.
"SELECT * FROM '.$VAR.'" would be the statment used to return the data.
I was wondering if there was a similar way to dot his. Currently I have a different page for each table with other dropdown menus to select other options, or would continuing to do it like i have just stated be better?
I have created user control for menu bar and loading in Master page. User control has Link buttons. Now I want create drop down menu for one of Link buttons. I dont know, how to do that? Is there any other control that supports?

I have a couple of drop down list inside a update panel and a asp:menu. When the site is accesed with IE6 the asp:menu appears behind the dropdown combos. I already try fix it with z-index but nothing happen, the dropdown still appears in front of asp:menu. is a bug in IE6, or there is a workaround? This not happen with IE7, IE8 and Firefox.
View 1 RepliesI cannot change the text in the drop menus. It was originally "Select a General Market", and "Select a Market". I have changed them and the changes due not take effect. I can change the labels, but not the default text inside the dropdown list. Is this something that needs to be changed elsewhere?
<asp:label id="lblSelectGenMark" runat="server">Select a market: </asp:label>
<asp:dropdownlist id="ddlGreaterMarket" runat="server">
<asp:ListItem Value="None">Select a market</asp:ListItem>

<asp:button id="Button1" runat="server" Text="Filter Scores"></asp:button></P>

Platform: Website development on ASP.NET 4.0(Webforms) with C#. Situation: My rendered ASP.NET Menu control is horizontal and has three levels of data. And I have set StaticDisplayLevels="1" so that the menu shows Level1 data horizontally and onmouseover of level1, the menu displays the level2 data and onmouseover of level2, the menu displays level3 data.
Requirement: To display level2 and level3 data in a single list, with the children of first level2(if any) get displayed below the first level2 data. Then comes second level2 and its children(if any) and so on. Consider the above image. What i would like to have, is a display like the one on the left. But the ASP.NET Menu control renders it like the image on the right side.
I have searched high and low in the net for a solution. I even tried replacing the markup of the generated asp.net control using Menu's DataBound event and then injecting javascript hack to it. I succeeded in it but it lacks reusability. What I would like to have is a way to implement a re-usable ASP.NET Menu Control with static level2 (and level3) after dynamic level1 which acts like a megadropdown. I am sure that there should be a way and that I am going the wrong way.
