Everything works as expected in VS under development (of course), but when deployed (local IIS) the log in view (sans css) comes up rather than the home index view. I've tried this with several test apps, including NerdDinner with the same results.
I want to allow unauthenticated users to browse most of the site, but I do have views that require authentication (fomrs). I don't want to see the login view by default, only when the user explicitly wants to log in, or trys to see a view that requires authentication. What settings need to be made to not default to the login view?

I am encountering a weird message 'Out of memory at line : 6' in a web application, which is in production, all of a sudden. The application is built with ASP.Net 2.0. The page which throws this error is constructed as below:

There are six tab pages in the tab control, which is designed as a wizard and this error is thrown when navigating from Tab 3 to Tab 4. Tab 4 contains ModalPopupExtenders, Cascading Drop Down Lists, and Collapsible panes in user control. The Web Server is Win2003 SP1 with IIS 6.0. The browser is IE 6.0.3790.3959 SP2. When tested in firefox 3.0 the error is not thrown. When the site is browsed from IE7 in WinXP machine, It throws Sys.WebForms.PageRequestManagerServerErrorException with error code 12152 or 401.

We have deployed an application in iis 6.o. We set cache for 1 hr in that application so that the updated data in the back-end will be visible by the user after 1 hr. If the requested data not available in cache it will fetch from database directly.
Is there any way that I can clear this cache in between 1 hr for some of our testing.
Resetting the website and app pool and deleting temp asp.net files didn't work, I have tested that.
I developed an application locally using the Visual Studio 2008 built-in web server and it is running nice and neat on every single browser. When we deployed it on the IIS6 and open it on IE8, there are rendering issues. The fonts are bigger than the other browsers (which are still nice and neat) and some components just moved around. The generated HTML is the same as the others.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to deply a 3.5 Net application developed in VS Web Express and built using the asp compiler. This works fine when tested using an eval version of Win 2008 Standard server on a VM. However when installing on a production Win 2008 Standard server it fails with the message can not load assembly as it has not been signed or the signature does not match. How come this works in one and not the other? The live server has symantec AV installed and running? If this the reason? Have a bit of knowledge ( as all devlopers do) of OS's but am totally stumped by this. If I could even replicate it on the development machine would allow me to move forward. Do i need full Vis Studio? Do I need to sign the DLLs?
View 2 RepliesI am currently working on a document management system in ASP.NET 3.5 using the Telerik AJAX toolkit. It consists of masterpage with a title banner across the top and a RadTreeview down the left hand side for navigation through the site. The treeview uses a combination of static nodes and dynamic ones. The dynamic nodes are populated via a webservice. When a node is clicked the relevant page is navigated to, reloading the masterpage and displaying the content of the target page.
The problem comes from the fact the treeview's dynamic nodes are populated via a webservice and therefore as the user navigates through the tree to find a document the treeview behaves as you would expect. However, when you get to the bottom of a tree of dynamic nodes the navigation to the page of the navigateurl causes the relevant page to be loaded and then the treeview resets itself to a collapsed state. This means the user could be deep in a nest of documents but when they view one, the tree collapses and they have to start their navigation all over again. This limitation is not going to be acceptable from an ease of use perspective.
According to Telerik, this is the designed behaviour for performance reasons - the node only ever worries about populating the next set of nodes and therefore the treeviews state is not remembered in viewstate.
So, the meat of question is. Is the masterpage/async treeview navigation design pattern a valid one? Are there any other ways to have an ajax treeview on a masterpage, that remembers it's state when another page is navigated to? I have considered a siglepage/updatepanel/partial page rendering model but the opinions I've seen on the net infer that this is bad idea. It confuses users that expect back/forward browser behaviour to navigate through the site but in a single page world they would end up leaving the site.
I also thought that maybe using a single page container and an iframe may work but this seems to be moving away from the "standard" design pattern of using masterpages.

I am a newbie C# developer. I have been getting my feet wet writing a C# web app for my department. I am using the following system:

When I run my application in the VWD debugger everything works fine and looks the way I want it to work. When I deploy to IIS (which is on the same box that I develop on) I start having some issues. Here is a breakdown of the problems I am having:
I have an asp:menu control with orientation set to horizontal. When I initially load the sitre after a deploy the menu displays correctly. But when I go to a different web page in the app the menu switches to vertical and the width of each menu item spans the width of the div that surrounds it. On the same page that causes issues with the asp:menu I also have asp:ComboBox controls that are used to filter information on the page. The combo boxes just look like text boxes. The data that should populate the boxes is not present.
I also have some ajax accordion controls contained in asp:updatepanels, neither of which work. The accordion controls are all expanded, and I cannot collapse them. If I trigger an update the entire page reloads instead of just the specific control.
I do not receive any errors when I browse to the page that causes the problems. It loads just fine everything is just jacked up. Like I said, everything works flawlessly in the VWD debugger. I know the VWD debugger does not use IIS, which makes me think this is an IIS issue, but I do not even know where to start to pinpoint the problem.
I have to design asp.net application which has to work on kiosk system. I don't know anything about the kiosk system .so, whether the asp.net application will work on the kiosk system are not I don't know. So any ideas and any sample examples will be very useful for me to start thanking on those lines.

When we release a new version and copy it to the production servers, occasionally it happens that after a few hours the application reverts to a an earlier code base.Have anyone else experienced something like this? Would sharing an application pool between two applications running different versions of the code make this happen?

View 4 RepliesI have a customer requirement where they would like to have different windows of a web application on 2 different displays (monitors): data lookup and entry on one screen and a document viewer on the other. The document viewer will be Flash or Silverlight based and loaded in a webpage. The app will be at least partially based on SharePoint. There is a need for communication between the two windows: when for instance a new task is clicked in the "data" view, the accompanying document needs to be opened in the other one.

I understand that I can launch the second window from Javascript, but that does not give me a lot of control over it. This solution will run in a closed, controlled environment, so limiting the solution to a specific browser (preferably IE8+) or the need to install additional software/components is no problem.
