SQL Server :: Database Design / Create A Separate Table Which Will Contain The Translations For All 50 Tables?

Sep 28, 2010

I am working on a multi-lingual application Assume the following:

Database has 50 tables and application has to support 5 languages

Which is the best way to design the database:

1. Include a langugae column for each table. Repeat the values for each language. Say i have a country table which has 100 countries in it. Then my design will contain 500 rows (100 for each langugae)

2. Create a separate table which will contain the translations for all the 50 tables in with a foreign key to the parent table.

Which is more efficient out of the above two.

Right Aligning Statictextfield Controls?

Aug 30, 2010

So I am adding StaticTextField controls to a page. This is using ExtJS, but we use VB.NET methods to add ExtJS so we don't actually have to write it.

I tried using

.Style = "text-align:right"

But that isn't working, in fact it isn't doing anything. Here is the whole code of one of the controls:

With .AddColumns(2)
With .Item(1)
.LabelWidth = 150
With .AddControl(New Forms.Control("LoanProceeds", "../../loanProceeds", "Loan Proceeds", IIf(Model.LoanProceeds <> 0, Model.LoanProceeds, "$0.00"), Forms.Control.ControlType.StaticTextField))
.Validate.AllowNegative = False
.Validate.AllowDecimals = True
.Style = "text-align:right"
.ReadOnly = True
End With

All these controls are contained within a column, which is contained within a fieldset, which is contained within a panel.

why these aren't right aligning using CSS? For some reason, if I try to use the same code above (the CSS), to try and right align comboboxes, or number fields, it works, and they are located right underneath these static controls, but it's not working for static controls. They need to be static because we don't want the "box" outline on each of the values, we just want it to be text, nothing else on the screen.

MVC :: EF Design / "Entities In 'EntityContainer.ProductTypes' Error

Mar 23, 2011

I have two entities: Product and ProductType. I've generated a controller and views for both and can manage ProductTypes, however, when attempting to create a new Product, I get the error below:

"Entities in 'EntityContainer.ProductTypes' participate in the 'ProductProductType' relationship. 0 related 'Product' were found. 1 'Product' is expected."

the reason being that my view, as automatically generated, doesn't know about ProductType. how is this generally handled? I would like to display a listbox of product types on the product form and insert the right value.

Aligning Label And Textbox On Same Line (left And Right)?

May 18, 2010

I have an ASP.NET control. I want to align the textbox to the right and the label to the left.

I have this code so far:

<td colspan="2">
<asp:Label ID="Label6" runat="server" Text="Label"></asp:Label>
<div style="text-align: right">
<asp:TextBox ID="TextBox3" runat="server"></asp:TextBox>
</div>
</td>

The textbox aligns to the right, but the label aligns to the left and on the line above. How can I fix this so that the label is on the left, the textbox on the right, and both on the same line?

AJAX :: TabControl Inside FormView Throws Error In Design Time

Dec 9, 2010

I'm trying to use a Tab control with 5 tabs inside a form view, when I view my aspx page in Visual Studio 2008 it displays a error message stating "There was an error rendering the control. Could not find any resources appropriate for the specified culture or the neutral culture. Make sure "AjaxControlToolkit.properties.Resources.resources" was coreectly embedded or linked into assembly ... " running the site just shows a blank page (as the control isn't rendered).

If I remove the tab control from within the ItemTemplate (or EditItemTemplate) and put it directly onto the page it works fine. Googling for the error suggests the references aren't correct, so I've reset the toolbox, and re-added the reference - this time referencing the file in my Bin folder (not the installation path of the Ajax Toolkit). Still it throws the same error. Finally I've stripped the code out into a page with the bare minimum (no code behind) and it still throws the same error. I'm sure I had this working previously. I'm using Visual Studio 2008 on Windows 7 and I'm using the 3.5 files from Codeplex (AjaxControlToolkit.Binary.NET35.zip) targetting .NET Framework 3.5.

ADO.NET :: LINQ To Entity Error Seeing Relationships Across Multiple Tables?

Jan 24, 2011

I'm a newbie to this so bear with me. From what I've read online LINQ to Entity should see the relationships without having to specify the joins between multiple tables. I have a relationship that goes across 4 tables Employee, EmployeeDepartmentLink, EmployeeProjectLink, and Project. The idea is an employee can be in multiple departments and work on multiple projects with it being specified which department the employee is in for that project.

This is a C# MVC3 program connecting to a SQL database using VS 2010 Express.

I have no problem with running this query to find employees on a project:

[Code]....

Tring to do the reverse, finding projects that an employee worked on results in an error:

[Code]....

Error message: The specified type member 'EmployeeDepartmentLinks' is not supported in LINQ to Entities. Only initializers, entity members, and entity navigation properties are supported. So I have 2 questions,

1) Why would it work in one direction and not the other? I've played around with it for a couple days with the same results.

2) Does it matter that my primary key and foreign keys are not named the same since all the relationships are connected in SQL? Ex: in Employee (EmployeePK)--(EmployeeFK) in EmployeeDepartmentLink Trying different stuff in LINQPad I was able to get the 2nd query to work if I specified all the joins which I thought was not neccesary with LINQ to Entity. I converted an SQL query that I made on the server into a LINQ query below which works.
