I have a gridview which is attached to an access database and I have created a query that joins two tables together. All this works as expected. However, I have three problems that I need to solve:
I want to filter the results displayed on the gridview by way of a dropdown list. This drop down list will take its values from one of the tables. So, my question is how do I take a value from my drop down list and link it to my query on the gridview? I want to add an value to my drop down list, which is a default value, like "All". How do I add this value to the list, when it is not part of the table that the values comes from and when selected by the user shows all results? When the user selects a value from the gridview and nothing is returned, how do I get the gridview to show a null result message, like "Sorry, your selection did not bring back any results"?
I seem to be having a problem loading a gridview using 2 cascading drop down lists. Before I implemented the Ajax cascading drop down list extenders and I just had regular drop down list the gridview that is supposed to load when users choose the appropriate data from the 2 drop down list appears when the submit button was triggered.

When the button event is triggered it looks for the specific value in the second drop down list and calls a specific stored procedure to load the gridview. Now after implementing the cascading drop down lists the page just posts back - there are no errors whatsoever.

The GridView populates on page load with all of the records. The drop-down list is populated at page load from a different table in the same database. The functionality of creating a new GridView filtered by the selection in the drop-down list is working. However, when a different page number is selected from the Pager of the GridView, the GridView "disappears," or isn't redrawn. The selected name remains selected in the drop-down list, but there are no GridView elements displayed. If I select another item in the drop-down list, I get a new GridView with the correct records, but then choosing a different page results in no GridView. I'm guessing there's something wrong with my OnPageIndexChanging for the GridView event code, but I'm not sure what. My code is below (C#, ASP.NET 2.0):

I am learning ASP.NET MVC with "Professional ASP.NET MVC 2" but it seems that I am still far away from basic knowledge. My problem is that I have a page where I must subscribe users for a tournament. My url is something like "Tournaments/Subscriptions/1" and it will show all users with a editable checkbox indicating if the user is currently subscribed. What method would I use for the ddl? Is a loop the best way, or is there a simply if statement I can perform?

I have a page that has two drop down lists on it and a button. All controls sit in an update panel. The first drop down list (ddl1) contains a lot of values which caused a huge viewstate so I disabled viewstate on it. In the page oninit event I populate the drop down list every time the page is posted back. This all seems to work fine, it shows all the values and I can access the selected value in my event handler.
ddl1 has the autopostback attribute set to true so when its value changes the second drop down list (ddl2) is populated with some values that depend on the selection in ddl1. This also works fine, the values in ddl2 change when I select a value in ddl1.
ddl2 does not have viewstate disabled. The button that sits under my two drop down lists is disabled by default and becomes enabled when the value of ddl2 is changed to anything except string.empty. This is where I run into problems. ddl2 does an autopostback too but it seems to lose the selected index/value. When I'm in my code to check whether to enable or disable the button the selected index is always 0 and the selected value is string.Empty.
If I enable viewstate on ddl1 this all works fine. Could anyone point me to what I'm doing wrong?
