DropDownList Control Does Not Show Items Property?

I'm using a text book to teach myself ASP.NET 3.5. I'm using Visual Web Developer 2008 express to create my pages. At this point in my text, the author has me drag a DropDownList control to the Web page and then tells me to go to the Properies window and look at the Items property. I don't see an Items property. I've doublechecked that I'm on my DropDownList control, but I see no Items property. Is this a bug in VWD, an error in the book, or just plain old User error?
I'd be willing to hard-code the property in the source window, but I don't know the syntax. I tried
items="Vanilla, Chocolate" but nothing appears in the list when I view the screen.

I have a databound dropdownlist hooked up to a table and the query has the returned items show up in order. I also have some default items that are _DataBound like so:

What I'd like to do is add some more items, but have these new items show up in order with the other items displayed from the query. How do I accomplish this?

I am placing a dropdown list in the footer of a DataGrid like this:

In my code behind file, in the myDDL_OnLoad event handler, I call to the database, populate a SqlDataReader, and set the DDL's datasource to that datareader. I define what data columns should be used for the DataValueField and DataTextField of the dropdownlist. Then I call the DropDownList's DataBind() method. Everything works without error. But, when the dropdownlist is displayed, it has blank lines in it.
By that, I mean if 8 records are loaded into the dropdownlist, it will expand to a size appropriate for 8 rows but, it will be empty. there is no text in it.
Has anyone seen this type of behavior before? This dropdownlist is in the footer of a dynamically loaded ajax update panel so, it is difficult to see the source code to see what values are in the html element rendered to represent the dropdown.

I'm working with a custom DropDownList control in ASP.Net and there's been a request to display certain items in the list with a bold typeface (NOTE - the control inherits from CompositeDataBoundControl so it can be data bound... not DropDownListBox). The control is bound to a table and there's a column in the table named IsUsed - if this is set to true, the corresponding item in the list should be rendered bold. (It should be noted here that this will only ever be viewed in FireFox.)
My experience is all in the middle backend tiers so the presentation layer is very new to me - can someone point me in the right direction? My initial thought was that somewhere in the custom control I would have access to all the rows that are returned from the data source which I could cycle through etc but I'm not sure if that's possible... There's also RenderContents which I can override... looks interesting!

I'm creating a composite control for a DropDownList (that also includes a Label). The idea being that I can use my control like a dropdown list, but also have it toss a Label onto the page in front of the DDL.
I have this working perfectly for TextBoxes, but am struggling with the DDL because of the Collection (or Datasource) component to populate the DDL.
Basically I want to be able to do something like this:

<asp:ListItem Text="dog" Value="dog" />
<asp:ListItem Text="cat" Value="cat" />
</ecc:MyDropDownList>
The problem is, I'm not extending the DropDownList class for my control, so I can't simply work it with that magic. I need some pointers to figure out how I can turn my control (MyDropDownList), which is currently just a System.Web.UI.UserControl, into something that will accept List items within the tag and ideally, I'd like to be able to plug it into a datasource (the same functions that the regular DDL offers).
I tried with no luck just extending the regular DDL, but couldn't get the Label component to fly with it.

I am using a SiteMap data source boudn to a navigation control. I would like to also put this in the footer (sort of like the bottom of Yahoo! pages) where all items are expanded and static.
So my major heading would be across the top (horizontal) and the sub items would be indented vertically below and always expanded. Is there a way to do this? Check out the bottom of the BlackBerry DEVCON 2010 site for an example:[URL]

I am assigning a value to .Text of a textbox retrieved from a database in Page_Load() but no characters are shown in the textbox after doing this. The value is indeed there when I try to read from it after the assignment. I would like to present some characters to the user even though they are the "dotted" password characters so they know a password has been entered here. Is it possible to do this?

I have a CheckBoxList. I want to select checkboxes then calculate a total price for the items selected. The datasource for the CheckBoxList is a join of two tables and contains the information I want to retrieve. The DataTextField = ItemName and DataValue = ItemPrice. Code behind is C#.

1: I have a .html file that has some markup with some placeholder tags.

4: PersonInfo.aspx is literally empty since I am injecting html from code-behind.
When the PersonInfo.aspx is called the html-template markup with appropriate values in the placeholder will be displayed. Also there are chances I would like to send the final markup in an html email (though that is not part of the question as I know how to email).
Is this the best way to fill values in my html-template or is the any other better alternative?
Note: This is a very simple sample example. My class is very complex involving objects as properties and also my html template have 40-50 placeholders.
So code in my step 3 will need 40-50 Replace statements.

I got 2 listboxes in a window form, one on left and one on right. The 1st listbox have some items while the 2nd listbox is empty. Also there are 2 buttons between the 2 listboxes which used to move item from/to the 1st and 2nd listbox.My problem here is that after I bind the data to the 1st listbox (from a dataTable, using DisplayMember and ValueMember) , and I try to move 1 of the item from this 1st listbox to the 2nd listbox and I want that the selected item is also removed from the 1st listbox by:
lbMembers2.Items. Add(lbMembers1. Text);
lbMembers1.Items. Remove(lbMembers 1.Text);
But the selected item is not removed from the 1st listbox.Also on deselect button when i move item from 2nd listbox to 1st listbox,it displays error message "Items collection cannot be modified when the DataSource property is set."

I have a list box which is populated using a dictioanry. When I iterate throught the selected items using the following code, it always show only the first items as selected - even if the first item is not selected. Have you ever encountered this scenario? This problem occurs when I use dictionary for binding. On the other hand a generic list works fine.

Even it will work fine, if the values are unique. But in my scenario, the values are same; only key varies. The following works

I have a horizantal menu that has 3 items.Home Solutions Contact DatabaseSoftwareTechnical SupportAs you can see when you hover over Solutions it displays 3 submenu items.Beneath this menu, I have a JavaScript Slide Show.The problem is when you hover over Solutions it displays only the first 2 submenu items, the 3rd one (Technical Support) is chopped off by the JavaScript Slide ShowI have tried this in IE & FireFox and the same problem occurs.Can anyone please assist me in why the JavaScript Slide Show makes the sub menu items dissappear?

I have a DevExpress ASPxRadioButtonList which does not have any data source for the items. When trying to assign the selected item the control doesnt have any items. I have spent hours looking at this as it is set up to similar controls which work fine.Here is my code:

When trying to find the Item by value it returns null for the ListEditItem. The DataTable dt has a value for priority for 3 and the item should be in there as its hard coded in the ASPX.
