I'm using a text book to teach myself ASP.NET 3.5. I'm using Visual Web Developer 2008 express to create my pages. At this point in my text, the author has me drag a DropDownList control to the Web page and then tells me to go to the Properies window and look at the Items property. I don't see an Items property. I've doublechecked that I'm on my DropDownList control, but I see no Items property. Is this a bug in VWD, an error in the book, or just plain old User error?
I'd be willing to hard-code the property in the source window, but I don't know the syntax. I tried
items="Vanilla, Chocolate" but nothing appears in the list when I view the screen.
I have a databound dropdownlist hooked up to a table and the query has the returned items show up in order. I also have some default items that are _DataBound like so:

What I'd like to do is add some more items, but have these new items show up in order with the other items displayed from the query. How do I accomplish this?

In my code behind file, in the myDDL_OnLoad event handler, I call to the database, populate a SqlDataReader, and set the DDL's datasource to that datareader. I define what data columns should be used for the DataValueField and DataTextField of the dropdownlist. Then I call the DropDownList's DataBind() method. Everything works without error. But, when the dropdownlist is displayed, it has blank lines in it.
By that, I mean if 8 records are loaded into the dropdownlist, it will expand to a size appropriate for 8 rows but, it will be empty. there is no text in it.
Has anyone seen this type of behavior before? This dropdownlist is in the footer of a dynamically loaded ajax update panel so, it is difficult to see the source code to see what values are in the html element rendered to represent the dropdown.
I'm using ASP Menu .... It Works fine in IE ...but The Problem in Fire fox ... i put the asp menu inside Table Cell and I give Alignment Property for that cell to be right .....the Alignment for Childs in IE is Right Correct but in FireFox is Left :-( so how can I change the alignment for Childs to be Right and to work in Firefox

I am facing an issue. I have a web application in ASP.NET and C#. On a page I have a drop down list, which works fine in IE. However in firefox if I click on the dropdown, it get expanded, now if i type some charcter, relevant value get selected, now if i click out side the dropdown anywhere on my page, dropdown collpased, new value is shown as selected but no post back occurs. I even put a client side function to call on change of value, but that also didn't get called. However if i again click on my page post back occurs and selectedindexchanged event of that dropdown is called.
View 8 RepliesI am developing an asp.net website on my local box using VS2010 Ultimate edition. Suddently, when I made Firefox as my default browser, none of the data or control show up!! The same pages work when I use IE8 and Opera, but not with Firefox or Safari. Usually I keep changing the browsers, to make sure that the pages work in all the browsers. Strangely, when I click on the "Outline block level elements" on the Firefox, the controls and data show up, and are highlighted! Once, I unselect the option, they are gone again!

it works fine and the image shows in Internet Explorer (version 8), but doesn't show in Firefox (version 3.6.4) I think it has to do with the direction of the slash, but I'm not sure. Is there anyone out there that has run into this broswer problem?Basically is there a solution to changing the value of the image's filepath string if the browser is Firefox?

Even the anchor links aShow and aHide works in Firefox (I am using version 3.6.12) but for some weird reason I can't get the button controls to show/hide the divText. The exact problem is when I click the "Show Div" button I can actually see the dvText div for few milli seconds but then it dissappears. Is this a bug in Firefox or am I doing anything wrong I have no idea..

I have a dropdown list placed in Update Panel the issue is that when i am trying to make selection from the dropdownlist i am not able to select the items under it(i.e. after clicking on the dropdownlist the items get displayed but when i move the mouse over it the dropdownlist gets closed).
This issue is observed in Fire Fox only (works fine in IE and Google Chrome).

Everything works fine across browsers as long as the user is scrolling through the DropDownList using a mouse.In IE8, things start to go haywire when the user is navigating the DropDownList using up/down arrows on the keyboard. The SelectedIndexChange event is fired with nearly every up/down key pressed. In Firefox 3 and Chrome 9, the behavior is more like what I would expect, that the event isn't fired until the user stops on DropDownList selection and hits the enter key.
Is there something that I should be doing in IE, short of setting AutoPostBack="false", so that the event is fired every time the up/down arrows are used on the keyboard?

I have a list box which is populated using a dictioanry. When I iterate throught the selected items using the following code, it always show only the first items as selected - even if the first item is not selected. Have you ever encountered this scenario? This problem occurs when I use dictionary for binding. On the other hand a generic list works fine.

I have a horizantal menu that has 3 items.Home Solutions Contact DatabaseSoftwareTechnical SupportAs you can see when you hover over Solutions it displays 3 submenu items.Beneath this menu, I have a JavaScript Slide Show.The problem is when you hover over Solutions it displays only the first 2 submenu items, the 3rd one (Technical Support) is chopped off by the JavaScript Slide ShowI have tried this in IE & FireFox and the same problem occurs.Can anyone please assist me in why the JavaScript Slide Show makes the sub menu items dissappear?

I'm designing a web page with two dropdownlists, one for the Make of a car, the other for the Model, both bound to a database with separate SQLDataSources, and using a distinct statement. I add "All" at the top of both by setting appendDataBoundItems = true and adding items named all. I have a dropdownlist that contains items from a database. The set of items are unlikely to ever change. At the moment, whenever a user tries to access the View with the dropdownlist, the code retrieves the data each time from the DB. I would like to change this so that the set of items are cached and load on the application start only.
Could somebody indicate the best mechanism for this scenario? I have read up on Enterprise library which is my current preference, though any alternatives (with reasons) would be welcome.
