It is working, but it is client side (My ASP co-worker finally grabbed the reigns and implemented a bit of his ASP magic to open the form and transfer the values.) But it's so messy, and I hate the fact that I have been bested by old technology.
I was doing this client side before, using window.open and transfering the variables in the URL, but I was getting flack for doing that. So I looked at alternatives and found session variables, which you set server side. So now we want to open the form. I tried the following (individually): Response.Redirect("OtherForm.aspx") and Server.Transfer("OtherForm.aspx") Which replaced the original form in the open window instead of a new window.
I spent a lot of time searching for a solution but the answer keeps coming back to "Just inject some JavaScript to open your form." Is there no "normal" way to open a form in ASP.NET. In any case I guess the real question I would like to ask is what is the best way to open a child form from a parent form?

Question:
At the beginning I am opening form1 from sub Main(). Now from the menu I am openning form2. In form2 I am clicking Done button to hide form2 and go back to form1. It works fine in the 1st trial. Keeping form1 open for the 2nd time, I opened form2 from the menu. Now when I Click the Done button 2nd time it just hides up everything. Form1 does not show UP. It just exits the whole application. But in my btnDone event, I have frm1.show().
I'm using DevExpress ASPxGridView edit form, using default edit form. However when I open the edit form in IE6 and click "update" to insert the record, it causes a JavaScript error that says "type" is null or not an object". However it works fine in IE7. I am puzzled and unsure of how to resolve this. Code is below.

All server control puts a gray box with the following message : Error Creating Control - imgTransportistaSession state can only be used when enableSessionState is set to true, either in a configuration file or in the Page directive. The problem is I'm new to MVC and I no longer have events, so I'm not sure how my dropdownlist can have a postback event that does one thing, and my update button can have a postback event to do another thing.

sorry for the naive question, but it looks it should work and it does not. Say I have this simple scenario: a controller with its view with a single action, Index. The view has a form with a dropdown with some letters and submit button. When the form is submitted (to the same Index action of the same controller) the controller should fetch from a repository all the persons whose last name begins with the selected letter and pass it back to the view. This works the 1st time I submit the form, but whenever I click the next/previous button of the pager the Index action is invoked but I cannot read the dropdown selection: I tried with Request.Form and with a different signature in the action (by adding it a string LastName parameter), but I always get NULL instead of the selected value, so that the query returns no persons. What I'm doing wrong? How can I read the dropdown value across posts to the same action?
I have a simple web form which has 3 dropdown lists making date of birth dd mmm yyyy. The form itself is inside an update panel. The 3 lists are populated once on page load, list 1 has 31 days, list 2, 12 months and list 3, 82 years. The strange behaviour affects list 1 - (days) and list 3 (years). When I select an item from the list which is outside the viewing window via the scrollbar (20 is outside 19 is the last in the list) and press the validate button the whole page flickers. The same behavious occurs in list 3. It doesn't occur in list 2 because the viewing windown is large enough for all 12 months. If I then select an item within the window, the flickering stops.

By now I have this two Save Buttons, Save and btnGrabar, just to test. When I use Save it is sending all the information, but not the values for the "Grupo" and "Empresa" dropdownlists. I am trying to use an Editor Template, but I don't know if is the best way, or is better to make in another way: 2 pages, one for create and one for edit. I am a complete newcomer to ASP.NET. However in the few weeks I have been playing with it I have got pretty far and have mastered things like stored procedures, gridviews, formviews and templates.I have a dropdown box which is populated from SQLDataSource1
I have a second dropdown box which is populated from SQLDataSource2, but i need the query feeding this to be dependent on what was selected in the first dropdown box. I assumed it would simply be a case of modifying the select statement on SQLDataSource2 using the SelectedIndexChanged event on the first DropDownList to update the second SQL source, but I cannot work out for the life of me how to do it. Pretty much all of the code I have is ASP.
can i do this purely in ASP rather than using VB behind the scenes or do I need to use VB? I am pretty comfortable with vb.net but one of the other issues I have is referencing an ASP object from VB... so for instance if I had a text box in ASP, how can I read or change the properties of this object from VB?
