Dynamic Content Switching Based On Stylesheet?

Aug 16, 2010

I'm making a new design for my website, but I want to keep the old one and possibly switch between the two.

Unfortunately, I've changed the content on the Master Page (luckily I have a backup).
What I was thinking was to keep separate master files for each theme, and then just determine which one to server based on which stylesheet is loaded.

The only way I can think to do this is to keep a "settings" file on the website that has a "stylesheet=1/2/3/4/etc" line. Depending on the number there, the server will serve the correct master page.

Alternatively it might be easier to do something similar, but instead of serving a whole different master page, set a specific stylesheet to use.

I can read a text file (even encrypt/decrypt a file before and after it gets read for security), but actually giving the server the instructions based on what is read is where I'm lost.

C# - Dynamic Ashx Stylesheet Not Always Working On Postback?

Feb 18, 2011

I have a site when the customers can add their own style rules to their websites. The whole process works perfectly, but when they page with the dynamic stylesheet posts back, sometimes only some of the stylesheet rules load. The initial page loads all of the styles, and some postbacks it loads fine as well, but on some of the postbacks (about 60%) certain styles randomly get dropped. Is it a lifecycle issue? Its so random, I have nothing to trace. Is there a way to load the dynamically generated stylesheet and persist it throughout the session, then dismiss it?

How To Load A Stylesheet Based On The Client's Screen Resolution

Apr 7, 2010

I've been reading a lot of articles containing tips regarding in creating commercial websites and it seems the client's screen resolution is a factor here.

I'm wondering if there is a way in VB.NET to detect the screen resolution that your client is using? I really don't want to use JavaScript here, since the some clients disable the use of JavaScript.

And also, is there a way to load a Stylesheet based on the client's screen resolution? For example...

r.Write(HttpContext.Current.Request.ServerVariables["SERVER_NAME"]);
%>

But when I view the page, this content comes out first, before even the tag.

how to get this code inline instead?

MVC :: Display Content Based On A City?

May 6, 2010

My site is going to display content based on a city. So, if a user comes directly to my site, I am going to default them to say for instance:

www.mysite.com/cincinnati

I need to be able to handle two scenarios here. One, when they come directly to my site ('/'), I need to somehow redirect to my default city and 2, show an error page if they type in an invalid city. Any thoughts? I saw the route constraint, but how do you deal with invalid scenarios like showing an error page when the constraint fails?

C# - Dynamic Gridview Based On Dropdown

Nov 16, 2010

I've got a bit of an chicken and an egg. I need to bind a gridview to a set of database values. The gridview is dynamic and the columns, cells are created at run time. As such, I need to re-bind the grid on every postback in the pre-init, init events after very post back.

However, the data used to populate the grid uses a value from a dropdown box on the same page. As such, the value of dropdown is not accessible through viewstate until after the init event (i.e. the selected index is always the first item in the list until after on init). How can I get access to the value of the drop down in time to rebind the grid before the pageload event?

MVC :: Master Page Content Based On Actions?

Jul 2, 2010

Been browsing these pages for a while now and finally decided to say hi!I read about having an "Application controller" as mustinherit class for the actual controller to set content for the master page. But what I would like to do is to set some content to Master based on which actions are called on the controller.

For example..
/Backend/A1
... "Help content nr1 to master page"
/Backend/A3
/Backend/B1
... "Help content nr2 to master page"
/Backend/B10

And so forth. Ofcourse I could do this the "easy" way by just adding some clip on each of the actions. But I was wondering if there is a smarter way to do it. To check on the application controller which action is being called and select the "helpcontent" based on that to the Master.

Can Use .NET MVC OutputCache While Varying View Content Based

Aug 9, 2010

I'm building an ASP.NET MVC 2 site where I'm using the OutputCache parameter heavily. However, I have a concern: using such caching may interfere with authentication. On all of my pages, I display whether the user is logged in or not. Furthermore, in some of my Views, I do filtering based on user role to determine whether or not to display some page content (for example, the Edit link on one of my pages is only shown to users in the roles of Moderator or Administrator)

Web Forms :: How To Achieve Dynamic Content

Jan 4, 2010

I am learning ASP .NET and I want to understand the workflow when working with dynamic data. For a basic page structure: header, menu, content panel, I would like to use the content panel to display data ( a profile like page ) I have in a database base on the user selection in a menu control. What I want to find out is how do I implement that content panel part so that it gets built dynamically. What is the best practice for this creating custom controls for every dynamic section of the page? Do I need to create my own ContentPanel user control? Or is there a way to take that <div> andinject content in it at runtime?

String - Changing The Culture Based Off Of A Dynamic Value?

Mar 17, 2011

I have a web application that tracks financial data. I would like to have the option where a user can edit their currency via dropdown. The different currency types will be held in a database and a user can then select which currency they wish to use. The easiest way I can see doing this would be to check what the currency value is and dynamically change the culture to match the currency, thus I could continue to use the string str = String.Format("{0:C}", revenue);format. I am open to other suggestions but this just seemed the most logical to me.

Web Forms :: Dynamic Control Based On DataBase?

Apr 21, 2010

I don't want any one to write any code here, i just want the way I can handle and manage the following, because I don't if this exist or not....

In our company we are building a project, that have maximum flexibility (the boss is not always right, but he is always the boss), by website we are building have a configuration page that can set the type of control(by giving it a name or somthing) the page will create...by example on an email page, we have the "To" field which is a textbox... when the email page is loaded, we have to check how many textboxes are there in the database, and then create the control dynamically when the page loads... what is the best approach for this? is it wise to save the c# code for each control in the database? or just a flag the indicate what type of control i wanna create is enough ?

Unique Content Within Master Page Based On Conditions Met?

would like to present users with unique content based on certain conditions being met as they land on the home page (default.aspx). The condition logic will be in the VB code behind Page Load event. The content will go in a content placeholder as specificed from the master page. However, the content change wouldn't be something small (ie making a panel or label visible or not) but rather it will be different HTML, Divs and databound gridview content. The HTML content will be stored in the database.
