Consider the following scenario.You have a Edit action (GET and POST) for an entity that multiple pages link into (GET EDIT). What is the best way of getting back to the page that linked to the edit action? Adding a returnTo url in the query?
Example, from MyCart/3 we have a edit product link
/Product/Edit/5?returnTo=MyCart/3 (but url encoded)
And from Producer/45 we have this link
/Product/Edit/5?returnTo=Producer/45
Is there a better way to do this?
My requirement was to share master files among diff projects i read this doc [URL] so i use this technique to share msster pages among my diff projects in a soln but i dnt know how to reference such shared master page as if i use such

I've been rewriting my page into a master page for a bit now, problem I have is that I want the current page I'm in to be highlighted in the link.If you go to my website now gabriel-g.net and click on any menu item, it will let you know what current page you're on by staying underlined/highlighted.How can I accomplish this dynamic change in a master page -without having to recreate the menu in every page- with content holders?

What I want to do is move this functionality to a BaseClass so All my pages inherit from the Base Class. However, I'm not sure how to set this up interms of c# code with regards to Using a Base Class and then having a masterpage applied to my aspx pages that i create.
View 5 RepliesI have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists. You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?

However, changes (i.e. new images & alt. name) that I made in the Top level master page did not apply to the second or third levels.My webpage has a correct front page but not in the sections. How can i correct this ?

I have a user requirement to hav the ability to directly edit the gridview without having to click the edit link. I was thinking of showing dropdown lists for each column-to-row so that the user can select the values for each record. Then the table will be updated accordingly (no update link).
Is this possible or do I still need the edit template and specify the item template with the dropdown list?
How do I change these hyperlinks to say something other then Edit and Cancel?

View 1 RepliesI'm puzzled by the behaviour of two hyperlinks in my Master Page which appear to be identical. The link to ~/Default.aspx in the href in line 5 of the code below causes a 404 error, but the same link in NavigateUrl on line 9 works fine. On the face of it they should both go to the same page. What's different/incorrect about the link on line 5 that causes the problem?

I have an asp.net content page which is used inside of a master page (with header, menu and some links). I would like to reuse it in a different context without the master page (to not display the header and menu there), or with an empty master page if this is somehow possible. I don't want to violate DRY principle by taking the whole page and creating a standalone clone of it for obvious reasons. Is this somehow possible ?
View 2 RepliesI'm currently using ASP.NET MVC 2 and the spark view engine. The main master page (application.spark) contains all of the CSS link tags that need to be present for all pages (global stuff). However, I have some content pages that have page specific CSS tags and currently I'm just sticking the link tag in the body as something like:

My problem is that when the page renders, this tag ends up in the which is not where it needs to be. Is there a solution for this?
I had was to check the controller in the Application.spark page and write out which page specific css file is required for that particular controller, however, that solution doesn't seem to scale well and I would imagine there is some way of creating the link in the child page and having it render where it's supposed to by the browser.
I load some text from the database to display on the website. Search through the text and if the text contains links to pdfs documents etc I want to edit the link to point to the correct location.
I have already done it with images by editig the src andpoint the image to the correct location.

View 1 RepliesI have had this problem for a long time now and have just dealt with it but i am at the point finally that i need a solution or i need to look at other options besides visual studio for web development. it is way too time consuming now to have to worry about changing one thing and then having to search all other pages to be sure they are still fine. So this is what i have: visual studio 2008 pro sp1 asp.net web application targeting .net framework 3.5
a master page with several tables. i have broken out into several tables because it seemed to help the issue. the tables are all stacked on top of each other, no special positioning. the tables seem to be fine for the most part but if i make changes to the table which contains the content placeholder, i will find other pages have formatting incorrect, such as backcolor of text in different areas changed, bulleted lists are overlapping. when navigating to some pages, one of the tables i have at the top that is not related to the table with the content placeholdder, will not show the background picture, and it will show either different font size of the menu that is in the table with the content placeholder, or bold font on other buttons text, such as link button, on the master page.
so they seem to affect each other. changes on the master page affect the other pages and when displaying the other pages, whether in a browser in the IDE, parts of the master page will be affected. this is only on certain pages and they are never consistent. they will stay consistent once changed, but each time i make a change to the master page, the pages which are affected are not consistent. However, it used to be a issue that was always consistent with certain pages i kept in their own folder. i had taken the time once to go through them and make fixes and after that i didn't really have any more issues. but now they are being affected again as well as others.
i had started using link buttons instead of hyperlinks because it seemed to not affect the other pages when formatting them. for instance i would highlight the backcolor of a link with yellow, and other pages text in random places would show with the same yellow backcolor. it does not seem to matter what any of the affected text is in whether in p or div, it doesn't seem to follow a pattern other than sometimes it does seem to favor text that is bold. i think in some ways it has to do with new content pages i add to the site. those seem to be the ones that are usually affected for sure. but there are always others and i never know for sure which ones they will be.

View 4 RepliesI have 2 master pages with same (href) links on top of the page. Now these links load on the same master page when clicked on (by requirement). The problem is both these master pages have same links, so basically the same page shall be loaded in the master page.Now what i need is when the person is on Master Page 1 and clicks on the link it should load in the same page. Whereas if the user is on Master Page 2 and clicks on the same link, i should be able to change the master page from 1 to 2 and load that in Master Page 2. Something like DirectCast.
