Web Forms :: Master Pages Navigation, Current Link?
Jan 12, 2011
I've been rewriting my page into a master page for a bit now, problem I have is that I want the current page I'm in to be highlighted in the link.If you go to my website now gabriel-g.net and click on any menu item, it will let you know what current page you're on by staying underlined/highlighted.How can I accomplish this dynamic change in a master page -without having to recreate the menu in every page- with content holders?
My requirement was to share master files among diff projects i read this doc [URL] so i use this technique to share msster pages among my diff projects in a soln but i dnt know how to reference such shared master page as if i use such
Im building a navigation and want to display the current page (Default.aspx, OtherPage.aspx) the user is on with a class.Right now I just have a bunch of links as <a> tags. Here is a my menu:
[Code]....
As you can see the Default.aspx has the class active, but that is just something I put in.How do I do this dynamically?I know I can use Path.GetFileName(Request.FilePath) to get what page the user is on.
In the application i come to products.aspx from five different pages.I have back button on the products.aspx page. How find from which page user navigated to products.aspx
Per different user mode, some pages should not be accessible by users unless they have a valid session key.In your opinions -- would it be better to have a list of acceptable pages in the master page, and check if the current page is valid for the current user? Or handle this on every child page?I'm thinking master page, just want to hear what your input would be.
I have a site with a few pages, and I decided to have my navigation button (to go from page to page) on my site.master page so every page looks the same. Two questions:
1. is that the correct thing to do? seems to work fine, I'm just not sure if it is proper or not.
2. with the navigation/buttons being on the site.master. How can I pass an "id" from one page to another.
I want the postbackurl to be "~/Inbounds.aspx?id=" a value from a textbox on the page you are leaving. More or less to pass a company name or ID number from page to page, so the queries know who the "owner" is?
i'm developing a site using VS2010 and with my windows vista busniness OS. i used the default VS2010 wizard for new web application to create it. included a folder in the root directory and created new aspx pages to derive from the master page in the root directory of my site. everything shows on the new pages except the jpeg image logo in the master page. But other aspx pages i created in the root directory shows every thing fine.
Currently I'm doing common functionality required throughout my site inside of my masterpage. What I want to do is move this functionality to a BaseClass so All my pages inherit from the Base Class. However, I'm not sure how to set this up interms of c# code with regards to Using a Base Class and then having a masterpage applied to my aspx pages that i create.
I have a login module in my webpage from where i want to redirect every user to a common page but their accessibility should vary on the same page,..some of them should get 10 links on that page whilw some should get 20 links on the same page...
I got a Master page and nested master pages in the subfolders.
Top Level Master page
Second Level Master page inherited Top Level Master page
Third Level Master page inherited Second Level Master page
However, changes (i.e. new images & alt. name) that I made in the Top level master page did not apply to the second or third levels. My webpage has a correct front page but not in the sections. How can i correct this ?
I want to have a side navigation menu (Vertical Orrientation) for a master page. Now the problem is, when I created a web form and include my created masterpage, the objects inside the content placeholder of a webform appears in the bottom of the side navigation menu. I want to make the objects appear at the right side of my navigation menu. How can this be done??
I have a drop down list embedded in a menu panel in my master page. This ddl fetches it's list items from my SQL Server. They are:
1. Select a type --appended during page load
2. Green type -- fetched from SQL server via a datasource
3. Red type -- fetched from SQL server via a datasource
4. User Manual -- appended during page load
For the sake of simplicity my website has 4 pages. When the 'Select a type' list item is selected - the user should be taken to a general 'Introduction' page. When the 'Green type' - the user should be taken to a 'Green' page - and etc.
I am building a project in asp.net 4.0. My navigation will be database driven where i return a datatable from the db containing all the pages of my site, some will be top level while others will be children and sometimes children of children n-times. Im thinking of going down the nested repeater route and databinding from code behind, dynamically generating repeaters for children, but have read that this is not a best practice and should consider the listview control. Im wanting to build a list of links using an unordered list.
How do you implement SquishIt to bundle Css/Js across View Pages and Render it in the Master page? I thought I could use a ContentPlaceHolder above the Render portion, but there seems to be some odd behavior where it sometimes adds 3 files (1 in the view page and 2 in the master page) but other times will ignore the file added from the View Page.
Is it possible with ASP.NET Master Pages to create content pages dynamically? That is, I know we can create content dynamically, but the content pages themselves, can those be created programmatically? I want to give my users the ability to define new content pages (i.e. Categories: Sofas, Tables, Lamps, and add/delete as they see fit) through a management panel. The resulting content pages should have proper URL naming, so that they index properly. An example: http://www.example.com/products/Lamps/contentpage.aspx.Is there a demonstration of this somewhere I can view?
I'm trying to create an ASP.NET MVC master page so the site navigation on it will look like this:
Main Menu:Home | About | News Sub Menu: Home_Page1 | Home_Page2
The Sub Menu section should always show sub-menu for the currently selected Main Menu page (on the example above 'Home' page is selected) unless a user hovers the mouse on another Main Menu item (then it shows that item's sub-menu instead).
I have over 300 content pages to create. Each has some standard styling. I would like to generate these pages, and was just wondering if there is a utility in web developer 2008 express to do so (otherwise I will just build one - but it would be great not having to do so!)
I have a search page (Search.aspx) with a search textbox. I would also like to add a search box to my homepage (Default.aspx) so that the viewer can immediately start searching.
I am aware I could do this by adding the search box to the Master template and using a ContentPlaceHolder, however I don't wish to do this for two reasons:
- The width of the Search.aspx textbox is quite wide - too wide for Default.aspx (the location I have for it)
- I am not yet convinced that I want this search box to be present on ALL my pages.
- I am considering using different AJAX Watermark Extender texts for the two search boxes.
How can I link the two textboxes with VB.NET? I want to be able to:
- Type a keyword into the Default.aspx search textbox, press the Return key (there is no Search button on Default.aspx but there is in Search.aspx) and be taken straight to Search.aspx with the returned search results!
- Have the keywords transferred to the search textbox in Search.aspx so that they are sitting there waiting for me when Default.aspx takes me there.
.net and I love it already, how to make my LOGO (not image just a text) on my website clickable as back to home link but ONLY on some pages? I have the logo text on my Site.master page but as soon as I make the logo as a link then the logo will be clickable even though I am already on the home page which is pointless.
I have a master page setup that is used throughout my site that is basically a header with a menu. I recently added a textbox and a button to this master page which is to be a quick search box that is available anywhere in the site. When a user enters text into the search box and hits the button, I need to load the actual content page which is used to search and show search results (which also uses this same master page), and have the text entered available so the search can be triggered automatically. Again, this search text box and button is now in my master page so it could be triggered from anywhere in the app... it serves as a convenient way to do a basic search from anywhere in my app, without having to first navigate to the actual 'search page' that already exists. You can also navigate to the actual search page, which uses the same master page, where there is many more search options.I'm thrown off by the master page arrangement, which I have not used until this project. What do I do?
