Embed Remote Desktop In Browser?

Jun 3, 2010

I would like to embed a Remote Desktop session within my browser. I must use remote desktop because my clients can't install any additional software on the server.

Here are some problems that I can already foresee:

1) I believe that I can embed an RDP ActiveX control, but then all I could support is IE. And even then, IE lockdown may forbid ActiveX controls.

2) I don't know anything about Apple computers, but I presume that they don't inherently run RDP?

3) I think there are ways to run RDP through a Java control. I don't have experience to know if this is a good or bad idea. I suppose that Java may even be disabled on some browsers, but don't know if this is a common case?

Drag And Drop Files FROM A Browser TO Desktop / App?

Aug 18, 2010

I've seen many articles about dragging files INTO a browser, but none about dragging files FROM the browser to a windows application or the desktop/windows-explorer.

I'm looking for a cross-browser solution but IE8 is our main browser. If I create a link in a web page and then drag that link from the page into Microsoft Word, it inserts a link. However, if that link is pointing at a PDF document, I would like it to embed the PDF doc inside the Word doc, as if I'd dragged it from Windows Explorer, into MS Word. Is that possible?

I've even tried pointing the link at an ASP page which returns "application/pdf" data but I still just get a link in my word doc so I suspect that links are the wrong way to go.

Embed Browser In Asp Web Based Tool

Mar 18, 2011

Does anyone know of a way to embed a web browser within a web page, e.g. through a Java applet or similar mechanism? I have reviewed the discussion on various solutions for embedding a browser in a Java application. However, this will not work for our web-based tool, which is built on an asp.net framework. Using a Java applet is our current idea, but if you have other suggestions to address this issue
This is to be used in a web-based tool that guides middle school, high school, and college students to read websites critically. The tool provides a set of guiding questions and other information along with a data-entry box surrounding the actual 3rd party web-page being viewed. The purpose of our tool is to allow teachers to choose websites for students to view and analyze - or allow students to choose the sites themselves. We (/the tool) do not control what sites or types of media are chosen.

We are currently loading the web-page in an IFrame, but that technique is limited in several ways. It does not provide full control for browser-like features we would like to provide, and is very sensitive to changes in both third party web-sites and to browser versions used by students. The most difficult issue we have pertains to anti-hijacking mechanisms used on the third-party sites. For good reasons, they use mechanisms that make them impossible to load into an iFrame -- that is, when you try to load the page into the iFrame, it will take over the entire browser window. Not only will the page not load WITHIN our frame, it will actually make our application "disappear", thereby making it impossible for students to use these sites within our tool, and potentially also causing students to lose their work.

AJAX :: Flex Desktop App With Embedded Browser Incompatible With .net ToolkitScriptManager?

Feb 4, 2010

I have a website that's developed in ASP.NET and uses the AJAX Toolkit (asp:ToolkitScriptManager) for a couple of extenders. The AJAX effects (e.g. ) work perfectly across IE 7, IE8, FF3.5, Safari, and Chrome. However, I embedded my site in a desktop Flex-AdobeAir application using the component which is able to run the entire site including javascript except where the AJAX is used.

I narrowed the source of the problem down to the difference between using asp:ToolkitScriptManager and asp:ScriptManager. Here's an example page that will display "Safari" in the embedded flex browser as the result of document.write(Sys.Browser.name):

<%@ Page Language="C#" %>
<%@ Register assembly="AjaxControlToolkit" namespace="AjaxControlToolkit" tagprefix="asp" %>
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">[code]...

However, if you change

<asp:ScriptManager ID="TheScriptManager" runat="server"></asp:ScriptManager>

to

<asp:ToolkitScriptManager ID="TheScriptManager" runat="server"></asp:ToolkitScriptManager>

it suddenly does not display anything on the flex browser.

How To Authenticate An HTTP Request To Remote Server That Can Be Utilize On End User Browser

Jul 26, 2010

There is one page which is actually a streaming to The Axis IP camera which spits MJPEG output. It requires user to log in with the user name/password promp on browser .I am using this stream to show video directly on a web page.It shows video correctly but asks user to provide correct user name and password set for the camera,I tried to logging in to this camera on server side using HTTP requests and then I realized I authenticated server request not the browser the end user is using.

So what I want is a method server side or client side, that can allow me to log-in to camera automatically when my end-users visit this page.I am using asp.net with c# 2005

Use System.Web In Desktop Application

Jul 12, 2010

I just added System.Web reference to a dll assembly, the assembly is for windows applications and for web applications. IF the assembly will be deployed on a server, System.Web will be shared using GAC, and there is no overhead. But what about windows clients. I am wondering if there are extra resources or any kind of problems when System.Web is loaded into memory?

Adding Web Access To Desktop App?

Nov 8, 2013

I have a desktop application which uses BTree/Random Access files for it's core database function. It has run successfully from DOS up to 64bit Windows 7/8 for years now. Currently being developed and maintained with PDS 7.1/VB6 and VB.NET

I now have a fundamental requirement to add/delete/update records using a browser. My users need to host their own server in their office. They have a public facing IP address. Ideally the server should be a desktop machine (W7/8 64bit) which can be used to run the desktop app as well.

Low loading; possibly 100 - 200 requests per hour.

I cannot switch to a SQL type product as this would break my desktop app (proprietary BTree/Random Access architecture)

I am leaning to writing an HTTP server in VB.NET (there are many examples available and even some components).

Create A New App - Refactor The Classes Out Of The Desktop App?

Aug 5, 2010

I'm about to embark upon learning how to create a web site(in fact I am about to create a website for our company) which will enable users to place an order on our system. I already have a desktop, C# WPF, application that has some of the classes I am going to require in the MVC architecture of this new website. Can anyone advise me of the best practise to reuse these classes in the website. If I was going to create a new app I would refactor the classes out of the desktop app into a class library then add this to my new app by adding an existing project (my class library) to my solution but that option does not seem to exist in creating a website?
