Active Directory/LDAP :: Using System.directory Services Namespace In Framework 2 To Query Active Directory?

I am using System.directory services namespace in framework 2 to query active directory. I have used fixed user account impersonisation in the web.config file, find the code:

<identity impersonate="true" userName="enterprise ang09" password="Telcome123"/>
<authentication mode="Windows"/>

I have disabled anonymous access in IIS. Also i have given Read & write access to the account tang09 for the website virtual directory and Microsoft.NET folder located in windows folder. But still i get prompted for the domain username and password to access the website.

Set Password For Active Directory Lightweight Services

Mar 10, 2011

I am trying to create a new user and set their password in AD LDS using asp.net vb. I'm binding to an instance of a directory entry, which is working fine. And I can add a user without a problem. The problem is that I can't seem to set the password when I add the user. Is this the right way to set the password?

Dim objADAM As DirectoryEntry = BindToInstance()
Dim objUser As DirectoryEntry = objADAM.Children.Add("CN=Jimmy", "User")
objUser.Properties("sn").Value = "lloyd"
objUser.Properties("givenName").Value = "Jimmy Smith"
objUser.Properties("userpassword").Value = "THEPASSWORD"
objUser.CommitChanges()

This is the error that I get :
System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryServicesCOMException (0x80072020): An operations error occurred. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80072020) at System.DirectoryServices.DirectoryEntry.CommitChanges()

I've also tried this :
Dim objADAM As DirectoryEntry = BindToInstance()
Dim objUser As DirectoryEntry = objADAM.Children.Add("CN=Jimmy", "User")
objUser.Properties("sn").Value = "lloyd"
objUser.Properties("givenName").Value = "Jimmy Smith"
objUser.CommitChanges() objUser.Invoke("SetPassword", New Object() {"123456789A$#"})
objUser.CommitChanges()

Which gave me this error :
System.Reflection.TargetInvocationException:

target of an invocation. --->

Does Anyone Know A Good Practice To Use When Developing For The System.directory Services Class

Jan 31, 2011

I'm trying to create a data access later using System.DirectoryServices. I'd like to use the MVC 2 framework and have all my views be mostly strongly-typed. Does anyone know any good way to this?

For example I started creating a Group Entity:

public class Group
{
public string DistinguishedName { get; set; }
public string GroupName { get; set; }
}

And an abstract interface:

public interface IGroupRepository
{
List<Group> Groups { get; }
}

I am confused about developing the GroupRepository using the system.directory services. Connecting to a SQL database is easy there are examples everywhere but I have no been able to find any using the System.directory sevices in conjunction with a class using MVC. Has anyone tried to do something like this?

Security :: Signle Sign On Using Active Directory Federation Services - Session Timeout

Jun 29, 2010

I have an ASP.NET application that is using Signle Sign On using Active Directory Federation Services

When the user first logs into the application, Once they are "authenticated", their credentials remain active while their web browser is open.

Now, I want the "authentication" to "timeout" in 60 minutes. This way if they browse to another page after 60 minutes, they are prompted to "re-enter" their credentials again.

I know that in FormsAuthentication, you can "de-authenticate" someone by calling "FormsAuthentication.SignOut();" in the Session_End Event in Global.asax.

Is there anyting like that for ADFS?

DataSource Controls :: What Is Better: Connecting To DB With One Stored Procedure To Get Two Table At Once OR Connecting...

May 20, 2010

While working with LINQ to ENTITIES I see that there is only a way to use stored procedure that is returning one entity only, or a view that is a join of two entities.

But what if I need in ASPX page to get two tables that there is NO connection between them, no join can be done between them at all.

I have one Stored Procedure that return the two tables, but entities don't support this right now.

I can split them to two Stored Procedure and call each of them separately.

Connecting Via REST API To Tomcat - 505 Error

Dec 7, 2010

Everything looks good but Wireshark shows 505 coming back (HTTP/1.1 505 HTTP Version Not Supported). Tomcat admin sites post that says .NET has a known bug where HTTP 1.1 is handled correctly:

[URL]

To me it seems like a Tomcat issue because I trust that if this was a Microsoft issue they would've released a patch by now, but regardless, he thinks that if I change to HTTP 1.0 the problem will resolve itself. I do not see any property in HttpClient or HttpClient.TransportSettings to control this.

Has anyone ran into this before or know how to set the HTTP version with the REST API?

ADO.NET :: Getting Error When Connecting To Business Layer

The business layer and DAL are on different projects. I have compiled the entire solution and it complies OK. Now when I try to click the button I get the error:

Note that I have already build the Business layer and DAL and the respective DLL gets automatically refreshed.

Configuration :: Getting Error Connecting To Database After Upgrading To .net 4.0?

Aug 22, 2010

I upgraded a Website to use ASP.NET 4.0, from 3.5. This involved setting it up on a different server, with the same hosting company. I'm using a shared hosting plan on Windows Server 2008.

Since migrating, it gives an error message when I try to login to the site:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

I'm using the same connection string as I did in the old version, which always worked. I also changed the permissions for the database to allow connections from the redeployed Website, via the host's control panel.

I have searched the web.config, and the source for the site, and I haven't been able to find a connection string that looks incorrect.

I've contacted the host about it, in case it is a configuration issue on their side.

VS 2010 - Web Page Error When Connecting To Database (permissions)

Dec 9, 2010

My website is [URL] (access there to see error, please) When I was testing in VS2010, it was connecting to the DB because I set permissions READ/WRITE on my computer to ALL. If I put restrictions, VS2010 couldn't just connect to them. Well, I deployed my DB on the server of my website, and I'm not able to access it.

My connection string:

connection = New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS; Integrated Security=True;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|Visitas.mdf")

I think I'm getting these errors because my server hasn't permission to access the database.

WCF / ASMX :: Access Error Connecting To Net.pipe Endpoint In WAS Hosting

I have a WCF service hosted on win 2008 server. I'm using WAS to expose a named pipe endpoint on the service and have a client website that consumes the service. When i hit the website from a remote machine i get the following error:The pipe name could not be obtained for the pipe URI: Access is denied. (5, 0x5)Now if i hit the website ON THE SERVER it's being hosted from, using localhost in the url, it works fine. Clearly there is something i don't understand about what the named pipe endpoint is looking for. I tried running a trace from my service, but there is no output because the call doesn't even get to the service.

DataSource Controls :: Connecting To SQL Server In Visual Studio 2008 Using Code - Error: 25 - Connection String Is Not Valid

Feb 2, 2010

Background: I use SQL server 2005 developer edition and visual studio 2008. Visual studio 2008 is running on a local machine with Vista business edition. SQL server is running on a remote server using Windows server 2003. Both computers are within the same domain.

Problem: First, I used the server explorer to connect to the SQL server. Everything works as desired. Then I write code to do the same thing. I keep getting the following error message:

A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 25 - Connection string is not valid)

However, I used the exactly identical connection string as the one used in the server explorer. So connection string should not be the problem. In addition, I tried the test code in MSDN, which tells whether my domainusername can flow the network. It turns out the user name is fine. I also went to the SQL server management studio and found the login for my computer is NVCWeihao while my computer login name is NVCweihao. I am wondering if this uppercase letter really affects the connection.

IIS - Web Services - Time Out Error

Mar 30, 2010

We've got problem with ASP.NET web application that uses web services of other system. I'll describe our system architecture: we have web application and Windows services that uses the same web services.- Windows service works all the time and sends information to these web services once an hour.- Web application is designed for users to send the same information in manual behavior. The problem is when user sometimes tries to send information in manual behavior in the web application, .NET throws exception „The operation has timed out" (web?). At that time Windows service successfully sends all necessary information to these web services. IT stuff that supports these web services asserts that there was no any request from our web application at that time. Then we have restarted IIS (iisreset) and everything has started to work fine. This situation repeats all the time. There is no anti-virus or firewall on the server. My suggestion is that there is something wrong with IIS, patches, configuration or whatever? The only specific thing is that there are requests that can least 2 minutes (web service response wait time). We tried to reproduce this situation on our local test servers, but everything works fine.
