Filtering A List View In MVC Application?

Jul 12, 2010

I would like to implement filtering in a List view based on the value in a DropDownList, in a sort of 'postback' call, where the user selects dropdown values and clicks a Refresh button. I have figured out that I should use my ViewData for the model being listed, but how do I pass the selected values back to the Index override that takes filter parameters?

Disable Filtering On A Dynamic Data List View?

Aug 18, 2010

I have an entity set of NotificationTemplates, and each one of these has a collection of zero-many SmsTemplate entities. When editing or viewing a NotificationTemplate, I have a link to View SMS Templates. That link takes me to a List view for the SmsTemplates entity set, filtered for the NotificationTemplate I was viewing.

How can I prevent the user changing this filter to show SmsTemplates for another NotificationTemplate? That is, I want the filter, but it must be read only. The drop-down just mustn't drop down, it must just display the name of the NotificationTemplate that these SmsTemplates belong to. To view SmsTemplates for another NotificationTemplate, the user must click View SMS Templates from that other template.

Web Forms :: Drop Down List Filtering For Gridview?

Nov 5, 2010

I have a gridview which is attached to an access database and I have created a query that joins two tables together. All this works as expected. However, I have three problems that I need to solve:

I want to filter the results displayed on the gridview by way of a dropdown list. This drop down list will take its values from one of the tables. So, my question is how do I take a value from my drop down list and link it to my query on the gridview? I want to add an value to my drop down list, which is a default value, like "All". How do I add this value to the list, when it is not part of the table that the values comes from and when selected by the user shows all results? When the user selects a value from the gridview and nothing is returned, how do I get the gridview to show a null result message, like "Sorry, your selection did not bring back any results"?

Complex Filtering In Web Application?

Sep 18, 2010

I need to estimate (and probably build later on) complex filter in ASP.NET WebForms application. The filter has to be mostly based on ASP.NET AJAX or jQuery for high interactivity. The filter has to allow filtering data with complex logical conditions (and, or, braces) and several operators. A user has to be able to save the filter's query and use it (load it) later on (server logic). Moreover there is still discussion about in operator.

Application should provide some graphical filter builder. I want to have full control on set of operands (filtering fields) and operators. The component will be used for all filtering actions in application. My problem is only how to do the UI part - translation of builded "query structure" is not a problem.

Have you ever did something like that? Can you share some experience how to best and fastest build such component? Do I need to develop component or is there any existing one which has at least some of the functionality and can be extended to provide other functionality? Because I'm not very experienced with client side development, I don't know how complex task is developing such component from scratch.

Another possiblity is to define some meta query language and allow users to write the query to some query text box with support for building logical expressions. I have already checked available controls in DevExpress and Telerik toolkits:

DevExpress:

Pros: Really nice visualization, fast. We probably have DevExpress licences. Cons: Tightly coupled with DevExpress grid. Based on documentation no extensibility and no control over operands and operators. It uses operands provided as columns for grid - I need much more. Probably not possible to save and load filters.

Telerik:

Pros: Not coupled with grid, it looks like separate control. Cons: I didn't find documentation - I'm not sure about extensibility but the code looks like it uses some databind control as source of operands = problem. I don't like the visualization. Demo is really slow. We don't have Telerik licences.

State Management :: Grab A List View's Page And Reset The List View When Returning From A Different Page

Apr 12, 2010

I'm having troubles remembering how to grab the list view's state, or page, so that when you leave the list, you can return to the list view page you left on. I have a data pager, and I have hyplerlinks for items in the list view that take you to a file upload or file delete page, and then returns to the list view. It returns to the list view's initial state (first page).

Forms Data Controls :: Filtering GridView Dataset With Drop-down List Selected Value

Jan 7, 2010

I have a GridView that displays records from an Access database, and I want to filter the records using a selection from a drop-down list. The GridView populates on page load with all of the records. The drop-down list is populated at page load from a different table in the same database. The functionality of creating a new GridView filtered by the selection in the drop-down list is working. However, when a different page number is selected from the Pager of the GridView, the GridView "disappears," or isn't redrawn. The selected name remains selected in the drop-down list, but there are no GridView elements displayed. If I select another item in the drop-down list, I get a new GridView with the correct records, but then choosing a different page results in no GridView. I'm guessing there's something wrong with my OnPageIndexChanging for the GridView event code, but I'm not sure what. My code is below (C#, ASP.NET 2.0):

using System;
using System.Collections.Generic;
using System.Web;
using System.Web.UI;
using System.Web.UI.WebControls;

[Code]....

Forms Data Controls :: Filtering Records Returned Versus Filtering At The Datasource

Mar 14, 2010

I have a standard gridview, with the standard paging and sorting interface enabled.The application holds appointments for three organisational units, with a maximum of 3000 appointment records being returned across all three units. The appointment records are quite small.

The choice I am faced with is to:

1. Have an Org Unit dropdown which returns to the datasource on change of selection and at inital databind, and returns appointment records for one org unit at a time i.e. approx 1000 records.

2. Have the objectdatasource return all 3000 appointment records for all org units at initial databind, and filter the objectdatasource by org unit on change of selection, thereby saving a trip to the datasource.

I guess the question boils down to identifying the point at which querying the datasource by org unit is more efficient than filtering the records returned by org unit.

Is 3000 records a lot for a gridview to be paging and sorting etc.

MVC :: How To Pass All The Option List Item From The Drop Down List To View Model

I have a requirement in my application that, while saving the application, need to get all the value from drop down list and pass it to the view model. But application should not allow the user to select more than one item from drop down list manually, ie, only one value at a time. My view model is like ...

public string[] InactiveProductSelected { get; set; }
public IEnumerable<selectListItem> ActiveProduct { get; set; }

Javascript - MVC List With JQuery - Links - View To Display A List Of Products

Nov 5, 2010

I am using a strongly-typed view to display a list of products, where every li-element gets a unique id:

<ul id="product-list">
<% foreach (var item in Model.Products)
{ %>
<li <%= "id="product_" + item.Id + """ %> >
<div class="item">
<%= item.Name %>
</div>
</li>
<% } %>
</ul>

Now I want to attach to the click-event of every single li-element, so that if the user clicks on a div-element, detailed product-informationen should be loaded asynchronously into a details-pane. I know how I can use jQuery to invoke an action-method ajax-style and also how to display the json-result which contains the product-details, BUT I have no idea, how I could attach the onclick-event to every single div, so that I can use the productId to load the details.

Security :: Filtering Members List / Only Members Whose Name Contains The Typed Characters Will Show Up In The Gridview?

Apr 28, 2010

Our site has a page for maintenance of existing members (e.g. adding / changing roles, etc.)This page currently uses a gridview to show a complete list of all members, based on GetMembers() method to populate it.However, as the number of users has grown to several hundred, it has become difficult to locate a particular user by paging through several pages.Is there a way to narrow down this list, maybe with a filtering textbox, so that as you start typing into that textbox, only members whose name contains the typed characters will show up in the gridview?
