When I look in my DetailsReport(List<> filteredList) method its Count = 0. is it possible to send a List to your controller or is my code bad?

I'm having troubles remembering how to grab the list view's state, or page, so that when you leave the list, you can return to the list view page you left on. I have a data pager, and I have hyplerlinks for items in the list view that take you to a file upload or file delete page, and then returns to the list view. It returns to the list view's initial state (first page).

I've written a View (form) that has a section with two radio buttons and a blank <DIV> block that will dynamically be updated. When one radio button is clicked, a <DIV> on the page is updated with fields specific to that radio button option. When the other radio button is clicked, the <DIV> on the page is updated with fields specific to that radio button option. To determine what content gets displayed when a radio option is selected, I call a JavaScript function and set the content appropriately using jQuery. Pretty easy so far. Let's assume that the User has toggled the radio buttons and filled in some data. Further down in the form, the User has entered an invalid e-mail address. When the User submits the View, the ModelState is invalid. If it is invalid, I return the View.

Problem is, when the View is returned, some of the form fields (that are static) are in place. However, the <DIV> that was previously updated based on User radio button selections is reset to its original state. When we return a View because of an invalid Model State, is MVC smart enough to return the View in it's modified state (in this case, with the modified DIV and dynamically added content)?
Would it be better in terms of payload, if I return a datatable as a List<DataRow> from a WCF method? I have WsHtppBinding for my WCF. I am expecting the datatable to contain 5,000 to 10,000 records.
Also, how can I test the difference in payload sizes when returning a DataTable Vs List<DataRow>?
I'm using a web service and I want to return a list to my client. I am nearly newby at web services and I can't return a List<String> object to my client. But when i call the method it says "Unable to cast object of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List`1[System.String]' to type 'System.String[]'" What should I do?

Once the action filter handles the validation, instead of redirecting to another pages is it possible just to return the view associated with the action with the updated modelstate? Basically this is to handle business validation exceptions thrown by the business layer in a generic way.
What i would like to accomplish is that a partiel view contains a form. This form is posted using JQuery $.post. After a successfull post javascript picks up the result and uses JQuery's html() method to fill a container with the result.
However now I don't want to return the Partial View, but a JSON object containing that partial view and some other object (Success -> bool in this case).
I tried it with the following code:

However I don't get the HTML in this JSON object and can't use html() to show the result. I tried using this method to render the partial as Html and send that. However this fails on the RenderControl(tw) method with a: The method or operation is not implemented.

This is sure the datalist is not empty and also Dropdown list populated perfectly..but dnt know why after clicking on my page add button I am not getting the selected value.
I'm building an ASP.NET MVC site where I want one of the Views I return to be automatically scroll to a certain point.The part of the site where I want this to occur works sort of like a forum - there are "threads" that contain "posts". A user can either browse to the whole paginated thread or can browse to a specific post, using its ID. When a user browses to a specific post, I want to show the regular thread interface, then browse to the page that the post is on and scroll down to the post.
Is it possible to somehow automatically scroll down to a certain point when returning a View from an action in an ASP.NET MVC site? If so, how do I do this?NOTE: One solution to this problem that I've found is how Stack Overflow and the other Stack Exchange sites do it: each answer to a question can be linked to by adding #ID to the URL. If it's impossible to automatically scroll down when returning a View, I would implement this instead, but I don't understand how to use such an approach when there are multiple pages and the post in question isn't on the current page.UPDATE:Based on Chris' answer, I'm currently planning to implement it with the URL looking like this: example.com/forum/[ForumID]/thread/[ThreadID]/post/[PostID]#[PostID]. I've got and SqlDataSource bound to a GridView, and I'd like to return the value of one of the fields from the SqlDataSource during GridView.RowCreated (I think). At the same time, one of the fields I'm returning to the GridView has a Null value, which I'm cool with, but Runtime is complaining about it so how can I get around errors relating to Null values in my tables?

I am using a strongly-typed view to display a list of products, where every li-element gets a unique id:

Now I want to attach to the click-event of every single li-element, so that if the user clicks on a div-element, detailed product-informationen should be loaded asynchronously into a details-pane. I know how I can use jQuery to invoke an action-method ajax-style and also how to display the json-result which contains the product-details, BUT I have no idea, how I could attach the onclick-event to every single div, so that I can use the productId to load the details.
When I am creating Strongly Typed View I get lots of Classes in View Data Drop down. Classes like Automapper, ninject, Interface..., latebound... Due this its very hard to find my project classes. Is there any way to restrict dropdown to only display my project classes?

I am trying to create an MVC List View that can be filtered by the value selected from a drop down list.
Selecting a value should repost the page ... Since there is no concept of view state data I am having some issues with this ... I can get the repost to take place but my drop down resets and I am not able to get the value that was selected.

I have tried many of the posts that refer to setting up drop down lists but can't set them up in the content because this is a List View.
I have a page where users can search by company name, the data list is pulled from an Excel spreadsheet hosted on the site. I'm seeing some strange results returned, for example:
In the company field say there are the following entries:
Anns Company
Bernards Business
Company B
Dermots Domain
Property Company
If I search for "Com" I get the following returns (correct):
Anns Company
Company B
Property Company
If I search for "Der" I get my "Sorry there are no matching results" message (Incorrect)
If I search for "Ann" I get the following returns (Correct):
Anns Company
And if I search for "e" I get the following returns (Correct):
Bernards Business
Dermots Domain
Property Company
It seems random as to why it doesn't return some values, I've tried moving rows around to see if that's the problem but it makes no difference. My range is set correctly in the spreadsheet.
When I debug the VB code behind, when I search for something that works correctly e.g. "Com" in the above example, once enter the value and click search Visual Studio begins steping into the code and shows me the contents of the variables however when I search for something that's not working e.g. "Der" and click search it immediatly returns the "Sorry there are no matching results" message and the code behind does not get steped into.
I wrote codes as below in Action:
