Apr 22, 2010I have a ASP.Net page that has a gridview control. This gridView control has a checkbox controls. I would like to assign a boolean value from a database field to the Checked property- Checked='<%# Bind("RESULTS") %>'.
When page loads,I get error - Specified cast is invalid!
The code is as follows...

Note: If a constant value is passed at design time it works fine. But i want to assign the value at runtime using Bind.
Environment details: VS 2008, ASP.NET 2.0 and .Net Framework 3.0 & C# language.
I tried returning values like 0s and 1s, Ys and Ns and True and False from a database field. But i still get the above mentioned error.
I tried retreving the value in OnRowDataBound event using Eval, since Bind is not available in code behind. But it would make the field readonly and i cannot edit and update the Results field.
Even though there is a value returned by the query why does the Checkbox does not assign the value using <%# Bind("Results") %> to Checked property instead throws error - Specified cast is invalid.
how i can edit and update Checkbox.
where did the Bind method of ASP.Net 1.x is moved? How can i use Bind in code behind of ASP.Net 2.0?When i type DataBinder the intellisense shows Eval and other stuff but i don't see Bind that would solve the problem of two- way binding.

But my problem is, if I click the check box, My code shows "cb.checked=false".
So I never go inside the "IF(cb!=null && cb.checked)".

Sep 13, 2010I have a grid view which populates data just for viewing purpose(report) . One field shows the Active/inactive status for which I am showing a checkbox..if data in database is 1 then the checkbox will be checked otherwise it'll not be checked. This field is inactive so that the User does not check/uncheck it. The issue is that this field cannot be sorted. All the fields in the gridview are being sorted.

Oct 6, 2010 I have a datagrid which is bound to a stored procedure in the code behind. This works fine. But the datagrid contains a checkbox which I need to be default checked. First I didn't bind the checkbox and just used:

Oct 25, 2010What I have developed so far is a panel which allows a user to leave feedback for a page they are viewing. Now - my problem is how to control what will be displayed. What is preventing me moving forward is the fact that I need to re-use checkboxes (ids) in more than one instance. But the checkbox id will only exists once on the page depending on the users choice. An example of the above is as follows (which is based on choice). So if a user clicks:
1) "Yes" - A texbox and a submit button will appear.
2) "Yes, with the exception of..." - A group of predefined checkboxes, a texbox and a submit button will appear.
3) "No" - A group of predefined checkboxes, a texbox and a submit button will appear.
Now with option 2 and 3, they will re-use a few of the same checkboxes, but because I cannot assign the control with the same ID twice on the page (or can I?), this is where I need to introduce the dynamic assignment? Is this correct? Is my thought process on the above correct? If so, what will be the best way of doing this. Is there a demo or perhaps a tutorial on this out there? I've searched, but did not quite find the above setup.
Because I have never assigned controls dynamically, I am a little confused or should I say cautious that what I am trying to achieve in this frame of mind is even correct. Now that my database is setup, the page is capturing all the required information - the final step is getting all the feedback controls displayed correctly in the panel.

Jul 8, 2010I have a Datalist and when a button is clicked I would like to send the values of the fields to a new page to fill some text boxes. What is the best way to do this. I had thought that since the DataList had itemtemplates that were labels I could reference them like regular labels ( str = Label1.text ). That isn't working. I was just going to send the values through a query string. Which I have an example of that, unless there is a better way.
