Forms Data Controls :: Best Way To Select Data Using A Query Built By Controls
Jan 26, 2011
er trying to develop in asp.net and I think this is the best site that I visited ever.I'm trying to develop webapplications with some controls like calendars, textbox, check box etc. in order to allows to the user to built a query made by himself (and complementing with strings), and of course only to display data according to the gathered information by the controls.
I need to know how can I select a gridview row based on a query string data. In my case, the query string will contain the id that exist in the Table related to that grid. Is there a way to do this from the code behind? In other words, if I click a link with that specific query string, can I open the page and tell my grid to select a specific row based on the table row id?
I have a SQL Data Source that displays records after going through the Query Builder and select "Test Query" yet when I save it, go back to the design mode and select View in Browser I get nothing but a blank screen.
I have a gridview that has a sqldatasource for it's data and it works well. I also have four dropdown lists that I need to have filter the data in the grid if they have a value selected. Here's my query:
[Code]....
What I need is if a user selects an Asset_Tag from a dropdown list the gridview should requery with the Asset_Tag as a parameter so only that record gets called up. Is there a way to do this in the selected indexchanged event? The same would hold true for the other DDLs. It seems like if I assigne the datasourse programmatically I lose the builtin sorting ability which isn't acceptible for this application.
i create view in sql server and execute a select query using AND operator on it using vb.net and bind data with gridview...but i am not getting result in grid
i wants to display the related informations of each record of dataset. That mean, dataset having rows for A,B,C and etc..
Then i wants to display the information in same Gridview of each record(A,B,C). i wrote the below my coding, it dispaly info of the last row of dataset only. pls correct the coding.
How do I do this? I want to search my database in listview form with the text from a textbox or an item from a drop down list which is on another page.
I have a Gridview that I am trying to add Paging to, however when the 2nd page is selected I get my EmptyDataText.n reviewing multiple sites and forums they have stated to send your Datatable to a Session - What am I missing here?
Im pretty new to ASP.net but am getting there slowly but surely! Its definitely growing on me.
The problem im looking at at the moment is i have a gridview displaying data from my SQL database, which works fine. I have enabled the selection option on the gridview which has placed a select link next to each row. Perfect.
What I am looking to do is be able to click the select button, and have the details from each column on that row go into variables when the page is posted back. I will then write these back to a different table in the database later on.
I see that when i click the link it is posting back the number of the row i have selected, but how do i use this to get the data from each column out of the gridview?
I would prefer that all middle tier methods that are used by GridViews be in the form that allows them to be used by ObjectDataSources...
<DataObjectMethod(DataObjectMethodType.Delete)> _
However, I am working on a project that I did not create. So, I was wondering if there is a way to use all the cool built-in editing functionality of a GridView without setting a DataSource? In other words, I am binding the datasource in the code behind (this works), and I have the following in my GridView...
And in the RowUpdating event (after the update button is clicked), I would like to call a stored proc to update a table and then use this kludge to get the GridView out of "edit" mode...
i am building my objectdatasource dynmically when certain buttons are clicked on the page.. and with that the gridview is being displayed with the results of the objectdatasource that was built.
So my gridview code looks like this:
[Code]....
How can i enable sorting and paging if the datasource is being built on button click event?
Trying to add some custom code behind the cancel button built into a details view. How would I go about doing this? This is what i have currently. But, when clicked, the cancel button does not pick this up.
I built a user control that displays a drop down list of states. I'm using it, but if I try to put it in a listview control, all I get is the frop down with nothing in it.
I have gridview. some columns are data, and some are link buttons. now, I need move these link buttons to a hovermenu. this is done. but I got a javascript exception, and it is because if there is no row was selected in gridview, it will pop this.
so, the question is: how can I select a row in gridview without select command? simply by code?
I'm encountering a strange problem. Here is the scenario. I have built a query that accepts a parameter (WHERE LIKE clause).
I've tested this within the query builder and it returns exactly the number I would expect.
I then go back to my webpage and add the following controls:
Dropdown
Gridview
the user to make a selection from the dropdown. Postback on the dropdown is enabled so the page reloads and the Gridview displays the filtered results (via an objectdatasource). I've set the parameter to the dropdown control.
The trouble is when I run the page I make the selection in the dropdown no results are displayed. Even though the text displayed in the dropdown control is exactly the same as I inputted into the query builder when testing it.
I'm new to ASP.net 3.5 and trying to create a test site so I can figure out how to use it in the real world. I have created a FormView (Formview1) based on a Client table using Linq Data Sources. The page includes a DropDownList to lookup Clients. I have added a list option (<asp:ListOption value="" Text="(Select Client)" and set AppendDataBoundItems=true so my added option is displayed. I decided to try to use Formview with only the Edit and Insert Modes, and I have set the Default Mode = Insert. When you open the page, a blank Client record is displayed.
The Client record contains serveral lookup fields and they have drop down lists for each. When I select a client from the Client DropDownList, is get the following message 'ddlClientType' has a SelectedValue which is invalid because it does not exist in the list of items I had this problem before and decided the best way to handle this (in the interim) was to turn off foreign key constraints for each of the lookup fields (e.g. ClientType) in SQL Server. That worked for 2-3 days. Now the problem has started again.
When I develop in other applications, I would simply create a lookup data source based on a Union Query with the actual data and a blank record. How can you do this using Linq DataSources. Can you get access and modify the queries?
know in asp.net 1.0 the grid display controls would pull all the data in, and then provide paging but the paging was done in memory. Are there any smarter controls that provide paging where they only pull the data relevent to current page being displayed?ie. select 10 rows for the current page, instead of doing a select of ALL the rows in the table.
I have an accessdatasource with multiple columns, one column I use it to populate a dropdownlist. Can I use the data from other columns to insert into a table, insert being done in the aspx.vb page, without creating gridview etc.
Is it possible to make a detailsview one column visible= false and still be able to evaluate its contents?
