Forms Data Controls :: Custom GridView ImageButton Click Event Handler Not Firing?
Feb 10, 2011
I am trying to create a custom GridView with a header toolbar at the top that will contain icons to export the grid view to different formats like excel, word, etc.. The problem is, I cannot get the method to fire that is assigned to handle the click event for the corresponding Image Button. The page posts back, but the code I have in the method to handle the click event does not fire. I have followed examples in other posts and from what I can tell I have followed what others have done. Can somebody take a look at see if they can find something that I am doing wrong.

I put it down for a few weeks to work on other things, but started working on it again because I need to get it to work.
Anyway, I figured if I wanted to put a button in a datalist all I had to do was:
[Code]....
And then in code behind:
protected void datalist1_ItemCommand(object source, DataListCommandEventArgs e)
{
if (e.CommandName == "submit")
{
// code here
}
}
This is what everyone else says to do when I search google. I put a break on the event but the event never fires. Does it matter if I am using VS 2010 and .net 4.0?

I have a custom control that renders a button. I'm trying to attach a server click event but it isn't firing. My code is:
protected override void CreateChildControls()
{
btnRangeGo = new Button();
btnRangeGo.CssClass = "divSearchGo";
btnRangeGo.Text = Resources.CORE_Resource.S0C29; // Go
btnRangeGo.Click += new EventHandler(btnRangeGo_Click);
// Tried with no luck:
// this.Controls.Add(btnRangeGo); // Needed so OnClick gets registered
// Page.Controls.Add(btnRangeGo); // Needed so OnClick gets registered
}
private void btnRangeGo_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
int i = 1;
}
OnRender:
btnRangeGo.RenderControl(writer);

On grid RowDataBound based on some condition i've added imagebutton dynamically. parallelly i want to add event for this button click. here is my code snippet.
protected void GV3_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
if (e.Row.RowType == DataControlRowType.DataRow)
{
TableCell cell = new TableCell();
ImageButton bttn = new ImageButton();
[Code]...
That message popup box comes, but i'm unable to catch that click event. while click on a row i want to delete that row, so want to create event dynamically. for that i've used this following dynamic click event
bttn.Click += new ImageClickEventHandler(b_Click);
private void b_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
//delete record
}
but this above code also not working.

I have a gridview which is bound to a dataset. I have placed several template fields in the grid with the following type of setup
HTML Code:
<asp:TemplateField>
<HeaderTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text="File"></asp:Label>
<asp:ImageButton AlternateText="ASC" ID="imgASC" Width="10" Height="10"
ImageUrl="~/Modules/Interface/ASC.gif"
CommandArgument="eFolder ASC" runat="server" OnCommand="ImageButton_Command" />
<asp:ImageButton AlternateText="DESC" ID="imgDESC" Width="10" Height="10"
ImageUrl="~/Modules/Interface/DESC.gif"
CommandArgument="eFile DESC" runat="server" OnCommand="ImageButton_Command" />
</HeaderTemplate>
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("eFileName") %>'></asp:Label>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
on the code page I have mapped the OnCommand event to the following code
Code:
Protected Sub ImageButton_Command(ByVal sender As Object, _
ByVal e As System.Web.UI.WebControls.CommandEventArgs)
Try
Dim img As ImageButton = CType(sender, ImageButton)
img.BorderStyle = BorderStyle.Ridge
SortOrder = e.CommandArgument
BindData()
Catch exc As Exception
ProcessModuleLoadException(Me, exc)
End Try
End Sub
My problem is that by clicking on the image button in the gridview header, the OnCommand event is not being fired. I have tried this with both OnClick and OnCommand and neither fires. I can't see what I am doing wrong if anything.

I have a databound repeater and in this repeater is an imageButton. How do I pass info from the database into the click event? For example, I've got the description, heading and price fields populating labels, but want the id to go into the imagebuttons click event in order to build a querystring.

So I followed Scot Mitchell's tutorial from asp.net/learn on adding a checkbox column to be able to select multiple entries and delete them with the click of a button. When I make my selection and click the button it works on the database end, as the desired entries are deleted. However, the entries remain on the page after it reloads. if I refresh the page it's updated properly but I'd like it to automatically update after the button is clicked.
Also, I tried his method for adding check/uncheck all buttons to the top of the gridview and they don't seem to be working either.
Here's the code behinf from the gridview page:

I would like to call a method and pass a value to it on a link button autogenerated from the database in a templatefield inside a datagrid. I don't know much about delegates
protected void GridView1_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e)
{
..
((LinkButton)e.Row.Cells[(int)eMessage.TitleColumn].FindControl("btnMessageTitle")).Click += new EventHandler(delegate { viewSelectedMessage(this, 35); });
}
void viewSelectedMessage(object sender, int messageID)
{
lblTest.Text = messageID;
}
running the website and viewing the page source, I have realised that there is an OnClick event created for the linkbutton, however, this may be generated anyways. By running my solution using VS debugging, I can see that my method won't fire by clicking any of thos generated linkbuttons.

I am having a problem where my button click event is still firing even though my custom server-side validation is set to args.IsValid = false. I am debugging through the code and the validation is definitely being fired before the button click, and args.IsValid is definitely being set to false once the custom validation takes place, but it always makes its way to the button click event afterwards.

I have a gridview that has a column with an imagebutton. That image button event calls my update procedure and merely updates that records status and when the gridview rebinds, the image changes and is no longer available.Whats happening is if the page is refreshed, the update occurs again. If i add this around the update code, works great the first time, but then any other updates are ignored.. is there anyway to know wether the page was refreshed vs actual imagebutton postback?
if (!IsPostBack)
{
}
Since the update is just setting a flag for that record, on another page that displays those records for a seperate department. IF by chance the first page is still open and the 2nd department resets the flag, if the first page is refreshed, that flag is reset again. so its creating some inconsistant results..

I'm trying to use one ImageButton as both a login button and a logout button. Initially its a login button. I click the button once and it runs the login click handler and pops up a text box to type in a password. Then I enter the password to login. Inside the password box's submit handler I check to see if the password is valid. If it is, I enable all the password protected functionality on the page, change the button's image from the login image to the logout image, and change the button's click handler from the login Click handler to the logout Click handler.
So far my code just swaps the button's image but the click handler never changes to the logout handler. I have tried two ways of changing the ImageButton's click handler programmatically and both have failed:
1.
loginBtn.Attributes.Remove("OnClick");
loginBtn.Attributes.Add("OnClick", "logoutBtn_Click");
2.
loginBtn -= new ImageClickEventHandler(loginBtn_Click);
loginBtn += new ImageClickEventHandler(logoutBtn_Click);
Neither the login text box or the login/logout button are inside an UpdatePanel. EnableViewState is set to the default of true. Does anyone see what is preventing the Click handler from being changed?

I have page (inheriting from master page) in which I have a dynamic Grid view (columns are not defined at design time), but gird is binded from xml at run time.
From code behind, I am adding a LinkButton into a single column in Gridview as
[code]....
But when I click on the link button, it does a post back, but the Click Handler is not called? Also in the same page i have an asp:button, from javascript I am doing document.getElementByID('someid').click(), this also causes a postback but the button click handler on server is not invoked?

I have an imagebutton with an postbackurl and an onclientclick script. When i added the onclientclick code, if my javascript validation passes (aka returns true), the page just seems to perform a postback (the screen just seems to refresh
<asp:ImageButton ID="imgSendInfo" runat="server" SkinID="SendInfo" PostBackUrl="MyUrlOnAnotherSite" onClientClick="javascript:return onFormSubmit(this.form);return document.MM_returnValue" />
I decided to change what JS functions Im calling now since calling Multiple functions definately wasnt helping. Here's my updated code. All Im doing now is validating a single textbox and returning true or false. Even this simple function is causing the postback URL to never get called. Could it have anything to do with the fact that Im trying to call a function to return a true or false?

I'm creating a GridView in code. I can successfully attach handlers for Editing, and CancelEditing. RowUpdating never runs, however. Instead, if the GridView is in a Panel, the Edit handler is called when Update is clicked (and this is the command name I get back on the Update click, too). If the GridView is not in a panel, then the Cancel handler is called when Update is clicked (again, this is the command name I get back from clicking Update). I've searched high and low for a reason why the RowUpdating event is not getting called, and I can't find one. Does anyone out there haveHere is my code (My actual code is much more involved than this, but for testing purposes, I extracted the following code and stuck it in a new project to isolate my problem):
protected void Page_Init(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
if (!IsPostBack)
[code]...

I have a GridView that uses custom paging inside an UpdatePanel (so that the paging and sorting of the gridview don't cause postback). The sorting works fine, but the paging doesn't. The PageIndexChanging event is never called. This is the aspx code:
<asp:UpdatePanel runat="server" ID="upSearchResults" ChildrenAsTriggers="true" UpdateMode="Always">
<ContentTemplate>
<asp:GridView ID="gvSearchResults" runat="server" AllowSorting="true" AutoGenerateColumns="false" AllowPaging="true" PageSize="10" OnDataBound="gvSearchResults_DataBound"
OnRowDataBound ="gvSearchResults_RowDataBound" OnSorting="gvSearchResults_Sorting" OnPageIndexChanging="gvSearchResults_PageIndexChanging" Width="100%" EnableSortingAndPagingCallbacks="false">
<Columns>
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Select" HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center">
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:HyperLink ID="lnkAdd" runat="server">Add</asp:HyperLink>
<asp:HiddenField ID="hfPersonId" runat="server" Value='<%# Eval("Id") %>'/>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
<asp:BoundField HeaderText="First Name" DataField="FirstName" HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" SortExpression="FirstName" />
<asp:BoundField HeaderText="Last Name" DataField="LastName" HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" SortExpression="LastName" />
<asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Phone Number" HeaderStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" ItemStyle-HorizontalAlign="Center" >
<ItemTemplate>
<asp:Label ID="lblPhone" runat="server" Text="" />
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:TemplateField>
</Columns>
<PagerTemplate>
<table width="100%" class="pager">
<tr>
<td>
</td>
</tr>
</table>
</PagerTemplate>
</asp:GridView>
<div class="btnContainer">
<div class="btn btn-height_small btn-style_dominant">
<asp:LinkButton ID="lbtNewRecord" runat="server" OnClick="lbtNewRecord_Click"><span>Create New Record</span></asp:LinkButton>
</div>
<div class="btn btn-height_small btn-style_subtle">
<a onclick="openParticipantModal();"><span>Cancel</span></a>
</div>
</div>
</ContentTemplate>
<Triggers>
<asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="gvSearchResults" EventName="PageIndexChanging" />
<asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="gvSearchResults" EventName="Sorting" />
</Triggers>
</asp:UpdatePanel>
In the code behind I have a SetPaging method that is called on the GridView OnDataBound event:
private void SetPaging(GridView gv)
{
GridViewRow row = gv.BottomPagerRow;
var place = row.Cells[0];
var first = new LinkButton();
first.CommandName = "Page";
first.CommandArgument = "First";
first.Text = "First";
first.ToolTip = "First Page";
if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(first);
var lbl = new Label();
lbl.Text = " ";
if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(lbl);
var prev = new LinkButton();
prev.CommandName = "Page";
prev.CommandArgument = "Prev";
prev.Text = "Prev";
prev.ToolTip = "Previous Page";
if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(prev);
var lbl2 = new Label();
lbl2.Text = " ";
if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(lbl2);
for (int i = 1; i <= gv.PageCount; i++)
{
var btn = new LinkButton();
btn.CommandName = "Page";
btn.CommandArgument = i.ToString();
if (i == gv.PageIndex + 1)
{
btn.BackColor = Color.Gray;
}
btn.Text = i.ToString();
btn.ToolTip = "Page " + i.ToString();
if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(btn);
var lbl3 = new Label();
lbl3.Text = " ";
if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(lbl3);
}
var next = new LinkButton();
next.CommandName = "Page";
next.CommandArgument = "Next";
next.Text = "Next";
next.ToolTip = "Next Page";
if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(next);
var lbl4 = new Label();
lbl4.Text = " ";
if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(lbl4);
var last = new LinkButton();
last.CommandName = "Page";
last.CommandArgument = "Last";
last.Text = "Last";
last.ToolTip = "Last Page";
if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(last);
var lbl5 = new Label();
lbl5.Text = " ";
if (place != null) place.Controls.Add(lbl5);
}
The paging works if I don't use custom paging, but I really need to use the custom paging. I can't figure out why the PageIndexChanging event isn't fired when I'm using the custom paging.

I have a gridview,sqldatasource and a link button for delete in the sample code below
When Delete is click the confirmation pops up. When I confirm yes, the rowdeleting event doesn't seem to be firing. I addeed a label to see if the event is firing. To avoid runtime errors I added a dummy but actual sql delete command. Once If I get it to work, I want call a stored procedure to delete the row.
My question is
1. Why is the gridview row deleting event not fired.

I have a very simple page that consisist of an UpdatePanel that contains a gridview. The gridview includes a delete button for each row, which should fire the Delete event. But the event never fires. If I set a breakpoint inside the event handler, it never gets hit and the row does not get deleted. When I say OK on the confirm dialog it just goes back to the page. I tried taking out the confirm button extender
