i have a some Records in My Data table. i want to get Distinct Records so i have used data View for That. when i look in into DataTable.DefaultView it Shows Empty.
i have Cleared the RowFilter of this Default View.
When i open the The Configure Data Source wizard, the "Specify columns from a table or view" shows gray, I cannot choose it. How can I do it.

I have a vb.net page that has a editable detailsview. When a user wants to erase the data for a field, they highlight the data, and delete/backspace over it, and click update. However, the original data is still saved. If they are replacing the current data with new data, that works fine and updates/saves correctly. This problem only happens when the current data needs to be removed.

So question from a Newbie !So I have a web page with a Details View component for Inserting data into a table.One of the fields is a date/time which I want to be now().SO I guess there are 2 ways of doing it - either I populate the date/time field in the form with a variable that represent now() and make it Read Only so the user can't change it or I somehow make a hidden variable (ie not displayed in the form) that writes a date/time of now() into the database whenever an INSERT takes place.What is the best way and how do I do either of them ? How do I make one of the fields in the INSERT form of the Details View a preset variable ?
View 10 RepliesI'm using a formview in Insert mode with an AccessDataSource. I want to switch to readonly mode upon insertion to let the user confirm the input worked, then give them the option to insert a new record. If I set the DefaultMode to Insert, then after the first record is inserted, I get a new blank insertion form (no confirmation). If I set the DefaultMode to ReadOnly, after insertion, I get a blank form (presumably because I am not on the record just inserted).
How do I get the just inserted record to display? If I need to set the ID of the formview to the just inserted record OnInserted, how do I get that given I'm using an AccessDataSource?

In the grid view i have enabled Selection, and on the code behind, as i need help getting started selecting the attributes adding it to a table. The grid is being populated from a table however i would like to take the information selected and store it in another table, which will have some more attributes. i have found a way which will add the row by an sql query from one table to another however i would like to give the user the option to select and add data to the table.
And i was thinking i could use this SQL query in the code behind but im not sure how to add it to the code behind of the select.

I need a way to change the ActiveViewIndex of a multiview control based on some query results. Right now I test to see if I have rows returned from my linq query. If so, set a certain view active. If no rows are returned, I would like to set a different view active. I would like to do this on Page_Load if possible.
Right now I get the fatal "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" error on page load with it bombing at line 12. My count is given a value at runtime so that is not the issue. Can anybody tell me why this is and how to get around it. Code is attached.
I also tried this both the pre render and Page_Init event but both yielded the same behavior with the Object reference not set to an instance of an object error. I can do this just fine in an onclick event for a button, but now I need a way to run a test and set the default view when the page loads. Seecode below

But if gridview cell is empty i am getting the text in textbox to which the value of cell is given as -' 'i know my problem will be solved if i use the template fields instead. But i want a solution while maintaining the bound fields ,if any.
