Forms Data Controls :: DataFormatString For Time Only Data Type?
Sep 23, 2010
I have a Gridview w/ the following fields:
<asp:BoundField
DataField="StartDate"
HeaderText="Start Date:"
SortExpression="StartDate"
DataFormatString="{0:d}"
/>
<asp:BoundField
DataField="StartTime"
HeaderText="Start Time:"
SortExpression="StartTime"
DataFormatString="{0:t}"
/>
I am trying to format the StartTime like this - 7:00 PM. The StartTime field is a time only data type, not datetime; and StartDate is date only, not date time. {0:t} actually works fine on StartDate converting the data stored as 6/28/2010, of course it displays as 12:00 AM when I tried since there's no time data stored...
but the StartTime field still renders as 19:00:00 using the above example. How can I fix this without reverting to full datetime data type?

I'm using:
[Code]....
to format the currency values and on my local machine everything works correctly displaying the currency in £ (pounds).
I moved my code onto the server that it will be run from and it's displaying in $ (dollars).
Our technical team that look after the server (Development aren't allowed access to the admin side of things) say that the server is set up for UK.
Where should they be looking to be able to set the server to display the data correctly?

I have a gridview that I am populating with data for the folks in accounting and they want me to format currency values so that they display without $'s, with commas separating digits and with negative numbers surrounded by ( )
e.g.:
12345.67 = 12,345.67
-12345.67 = (12,345.67)
I have found lots of examples around the interwebs that get me close but there is either no ( ) around negatives or there is a $ included.

I have a FormView that allows a user to register for a company event. I want to do a couple of things with this form.
1. I need to write this data to a MS SQL database
2. I need to send an email confirmation of their registration to their email.
I know how to do both of these things, but i am having trouble doing both at the same time.
It would be nice if I could do it in one click, but I coded it into two pages to try to help simplify it.
The first page allows the user to input their information into a formview and when they click the submit button, it places those answers into session variables:
[Code]....
[Code]....
The Second page confirms the users information by taking those session variables and placing them into labels:
[Code]....
[Code]....
However, after I place information into the formview on the first page, it throws up this error:
"Conversion from type 'TextBox' to type 'String' is not valid".

I am having problem with rowdatabound, want to add if conditions intact, i am using teh following two if conditions and they don't look right. i found them on google.
If e.Row.RowState = DataControlRowState.Normal Or e.Row.RowState = DataControlRowState.Alternate Then end if
If e.Row.RowState = DataControlRowState.Edit Or e.Row.RowState = 5 Then end if
With datagrids i use these and they work excellent:
If e.Item.ItemType = System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListItemType.Item OrElse e.Item.ItemType = System.Web.UI.WebControls.ListItemType.AlternatingItem Then
end if.....

I'm binding my object data source to a method that returns a list of ints (List<int>).
The object data source is being used by a DataList.
<asp:ObjectDataSource ID="objectDataSourceYears" runat="server" EnableCaching="true" CacheDuration="Infinite"
SelectMethod="GetYearsUnderArticles"
TypeName="Project.DAL.Services.UmbracoService"></asp:ObjectDataSource>
My question is:
How do i display the values of the ints. Normally, I would use DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "FieldName"), but what in this case, since the object itself is the value?

This is the sqlDateTime overflow problem again. Background. As I'm sure you know dates must be between 1/1/1753 and 12/31/2999. If you have an empty date field, it throws and exception. So I created a function (below) that solve the problem when attempting to update or insert a record with a date field. Works great.
Public Shared Function MakeDateField(ByVal pasDate As String) As Nullable(Of DateTime)
If IsDate(pasDate) Then
Try
If pasDate <= System.DateTime.MinValue Then
Return Nothing
Else
Return CType(pasDate, DateTime)
End If
Catch ex As NullReferenceException
Return Nothing
End Try
Else
Return Nothing
End If
End Function
So I thought about using a time field. I have the field, have the validator in place and then attempted to test the page. It resulted in my least favorite error message "sqlDateTime overflow".
I can think of several workarounds like adding a date or a fixed date to the time field, or converting it to a string. Each of these is problematic.
IS THERE A BETTER WAY TO UPDATE/INSERT TIME FIELDS.

I have a gridview on my page. I have a checkbox in each row of this gridview. For each checkbox in the gridview, I'd like to update my table accordingly, but I don't want them to have to hit a submit button every time they check the checkbox. I want them to check all the boxes they need to and at the end, they should hit one submit button.

how to suppress the "AM" in the gridview (template Bind("RideTimeMin", "{0:t}")? Don't tell me to use military time because the function is not "time on a clock"; it's how much time is allowed for a task (in this case the min/max hours & minutes that horses have to complete a 20 mile trail; e.g. 05:00, 05:27, etc). I'm currently accomplishing this in the "ondatabound" function by "..RTmin.Replace("AM","")". I have looked and looked at all the websites that talk about datetime formatting but have yet to find a way to do it upfront in the gridview bind statement.

Basically, what I did is that: I have a table in SQL database and some of data fields allow null. I built Objectdatasource through dataset. When I built update page using dataset. It generate the following error before showing the update page correctly. It seems I have issue to retrieve the null value from the database through using objectdatasource through dataset. Any suggestions?An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code
