Oct 15, 2010I have a gridview that holds 4 columns. in the fourth column there is a DropDownlist that holds three items.
I want my users to select one of the values and when they do the auto post back (which is set to true) should execute a method that updates the database selected row. But do i use the selectedindexchanged of the DDL or the Gridview? My head is totally thrashed so i imagine its really simple and im just over thinking it.

Mar 26, 2010One of the fields on my formview is a dropdownlist. When I go into edit mode the dropdownlist gets set to the correct value and works fine up to this point. Problem is I just can't see how to get the newly selected value of the dropdownlist to persist to the database when update is clicked. The DDL is a category list and I want to allow changing of the category for each record. Like I said I have it working so it displays the correct category for the record but if I change the DDL (change category) the new selected value doesn't get updated in the database. It just keeps using the binded value that was originally assigned to the selected value of the DDL. see code snippit

The above snippet is how I am binding the DDL. Now to not bore you with a ton of code paste I use various events of the formview to make sure the value displayed in the DDL is correct for the record that I am viewing at the time. All that works just fine. Where I need some pointers is the when I enter edit mode and change the DDL from say fire to ice it isn't getting persited to the database, all other info in the record gets updated just fine but the DDL never changes. I have tried several angles to getting this working and TBH my brain is yelling BREAK TIME.

Mar 24, 2010I am trying to create a Gridview in which I can update the Project Officer name in the Gridview from a DropDownList.
The Project Officer DDL comes from a seperate query (SqlProjectOfficerName) as the other information (SqlDataSource1)... as you can see below.
When I select EDIT, the DDL appears and I can select from the list of Project Officers, but when I select UPDATE, the name of the Project Officer doesnot change.
review the code below and assist as appropriate to write the Project Officer's name back to the table.

I have seen codes like this to loop through the whole GridView and update every rows in a specific column, but how do i do it if i only want to update one specific cell ? (If i know the index information of the cell, for example, I know i want to update the dropdownlist on Column 3 and Row 2)

Nov 22, 2010I have used this before with no issues. Now I get to the page with the detailsview using parms I pass with the key to the row. When the page opens the row I want to update is displayed.
I am having 2 issues. One when I change any of the fields and hit Update (the Edit button),
all rows are updating not just the row displayed. The second problem is I have an update_date and an Updated_by field with code in code behind in the Onitemupdating event and they are not updating at all. (This bit of code works fine in another page I have to updated similar fields on an insert).

Jun 11, 2010I m getting following error in my eventvwr . I couldnt find reasons of the following error.
"Transaction (Process ID 110) was deadlocked on lock | communication buffer resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. "
The only thing my page is doing is inserting/updating data into a table in sql and the thing I can think of is because multiple users are using the same page to insert/update data? Will that cause deadlock?

Jun 15, 2010A DropDownList is put in a GridView's TemplateField. Its corresponding table cell at runtime shows three controls (verified by checking gv.Rows[iSelected].Cells[iColumn].Controls). The three controls are: 1. Literal; 2. DropDownList; 3. Literal. It is not the case for other controls, at least not for TextBox which I usually access by something like gv.Rows[iSelected].Cells[iColumn].Controls[0]. This is not a big problem because I can always access it by its static ClientID, but I am curious why so and whether other controls have the behavior.

Jan 26, 2011I have a GridView control that has a SQLDataSource.
The GridView provides me with a list of musical artists (from the tblArtists)
In the Grid, I have a field, FKGenreID, that is a Foreign Key value for music Genres.
(An example of the data in that field would be "7", which upon lookup would mean Classical in the
tblGenreList table.)
What I'd like to do is add a DropDownList control that looks up the tblGenreList table and populates the DropDownList with the ID and Description from the tblGenreList Lookup table.
Now the tricky part is that if the GridView field (FKGenreID) has a value, then I'd like the corresponding Genre Description to be displayed in the DropDownList
Alternately, if there is no value for FKGenreID in the GridView, then I'd like the DropDownList to show that nothing was selected, but have the list of Genres available.
Most importantly here, when the user makes a selection, I'd like the GenreID (from the DropDownList) to be entered into the FKGenreID field in the GridView field.
My thought is that a gridview record may or may not have a value in the FKGenreID field. Either way, the DropDownList is bound to that field. The DropDownList would display a list ofGenre Descriptions for the user to select from. Upon selection, the GenreID column of the DropDownList becomes the value in for the FKGenreID field in the GridView.
Is this possible?
In case it matters, I'm using ASP.NET 4, Visual Studio 2010, and coding in VB

I have certain things to do when DropDownList.SelectedValue = "Yes" so I can use SelectedIndexChanged event handler & AutoPostBack="true" when submitting form for the first time. Now when I edit the information(Data filled from table as stated above). How can i automatically fire all events like DropDownlist SelectedIndexChanged in the page_Load iteslef so that all the things that are supposed to be done when DropDownList.SelectedValue = "Yes". I'm posting my test code for reference to explain what I'm trying to do. This is just the Idea. I have something else to deal with if i can get this stright. I need to dynamically add controls based on the values of DropDownList. please suggest some thing guys.
